Well, we are already separating the EU / NA / JP versions of Playstation releases due to the regional lock and potential differences between regions.Unfortunately, most people don't actually do this. Sometimes they even add various platforms to the same release.

< report >I don't think Nintendo DL editions need separate releases for EU / NA r85030 r85029. They should be absolutely identical. A single DL release for Switch should be the norm.

In this case, the entry should be allowed to accommodate multiple different regional pages on a single release entry.I agree, except for Nintendo Japan and physical releases (different JAN/UPC/EAN ID and catalog number).
Example for Corpse Party: BloodDrive: Nintendo JP, Nintendo USA
Different publisher, rating and release date. I don't know about about language.
Example for Aikano ~Yukizora no Triangle~: Only available on Nintendo JP

An issue related to this is that some Google Play apps have different age ratings depending on the region, despite the URL of the app and the app itself being the same.
An example of this situation is this release: r51870 and r79434 (Same app/URL, but the English language got added as an app update I believe).
If you choose the region of the page as Japan, the game will be rated 18+ (Not CERO).
However, if you choose the region as an European country, the game will be rated 18 (PEGI), and as North America the game will be rated 17+ (ESRB).
If we don't split releases like this one, what age rating are we supposed to select?
EDIT: Forgot to mention, Nintendo Switch DL editions can be different. The US DL version of Shin Megami Tensei V is different than the EU DL version. This probably doesn't happen with all games, though.Last modified on 2021-12-03 at 21:53

< report >Yeah, I am aware about the age rating differences between the stores. However, if it's only the rating that differs and the content is identical, we don't create separate releases. You will notice that Google Play releases don't have versions for every region.
There is no established practice which rating should be applied in such cases, but I personally write down the higher rating.
Forgot to mention, Nintendo Switch DL editions can be differentYeah, I suppose that can happen, but such cases should be in the minority.

< report >Regarding shop links I always find it useful to see how Wikidata handles them (...if they do).
For Nintendo they only support the USA format currently: link (and link for their old URL format), which means we got to figure out and maintain the crap for other regions.
For Playstation they have separate identifiers for three regions: link
Hi, I'd like to ask if we have a search feature that queries all visual novel with a set of character namesThe advanced search doesn't support this, no. This is where d18 may be useful.

< report >When I search photonmelodies and photonflowers now I get different results than before. Can we have separate vndb pages for them again like before in addition to those really short titles? So that people could use both if they want for rating purposes.
I'd rather have them rated as photonmelodies / photonflowers like they've been released in English and how I'm consuming them instead of "clogging" my wishlist with ~8 titles instead of 2, several of which would be "unreadable" to me, due to (romanized) Japanese titles.
If not, can we have a voting / score option on pages like these at least then: link or linkLast modified on 2021-12-04 at 10:51

< report >So what's the concensus on the scamware proposal? My brain's rarely awake enough to follow everything, so anything that isn't explained and kept up-to-date for dummies like me tends to get ignored or delayed. :(
My interpretation of the latest state (mostly #1087):
- Remove the 'freeware' checkbox, replace it with a selection:
-- Commercial -> You pay for the game once, you get everything
-- Commercial (free demo included) -> Same but with a trial
-- Freemium -> Same as freeware but with DLCs? Why not move the DLCs to separate releases? This definition really needs fleshing out.
-- Freeware -> No need to pay at all.
- Add a checkbox '[x] Includes ads that interrupt content' (my interpretation of "not-in-menu"); Available for all of the above types, I suppose, as "commercial" doesn't necessarily mean "no ads".
>game can be finished in one sitting without paying but watching ads or obtaining currency that can be acquired against real money might be required to progressI don't get it. Is this a checkbox? what does it even mean?
>game cannot be finished in one sitting without payingSo, content that requires money to unlock?

I don't get it. Is this a checkbox? what does it even mean?Yeah, I got confused by that too, but If I understood Eacil explanation, that (and the one followed by that) are short guidelines and definitions for freemium.
Edit: In the meantime you can add the Playstation Store for the three regions, it seems we all agree on that. We still need to discuss about Nintendo e-shop links.
Edit 2: If you feel like implementing more little changes and don't want 2 "commercial" choices:
I tried and you can't link the same VN twice to a single release, so unless you mean implementing that, it's not currently possible.Last modified on 2021-12-05 at 19:56

It could be great if you look up exact search terms when trying to look for posts on hereWell, it supports phrase search, though it'll keep the term normalization & English stop word removal.
can add the Playstation Store for the three regionsDone.
link the same VN twice to a single releaseEh, not sure I'm fond of this solution. But then again, conflating release type with commercial/freeware is also not too great. :/
Why does clicking in "VN Discussions" in the homepage leads to t/all instead of t/v?Hmm... the homepage links are a bit of a mess as it is due to those boxes combining several listings that aren't available as a separate page, but you make a good point about the box title link.

you make a good point about the box title link.i thought "DB discussions" had a link leading to t/db and "VN discussions" had one leading to t/v because it's much more intuitive. currently there's unfortunately no link leading to t/v in the homepage at all, but organizing it along with the other links doesn't seem to be a task that would take too long too

< report >I'd like to ask for a DRM field as some have before in this thread, but just for physical releases. There tend to be multiple companies publishing the same digital release, the only difference being the type of DRM, but most physical releases are only published by one company.
It'd be very useful for me, because I know that only AlphaROM, while it doesn't work through WINE, can be bypassed by getting the profile from SETTEC, so I would only buy releases that use no DRM or AlphaROM.Last modified on 2021-12-17 at 02:23
