When someone enables the private option, he can't see his own graphic, the one with Vote Statistics not other info like Votes or List stats, well, he is as limited as every other user but he is supposed, _I_ am supposed to know what I hid and I found that a little paradoxical to have to disable that option to be able to see my own graphic.
While we are at it, the option hides /list, /votes and /wish but not the taglist, which gives private info on what someone was reading.

When someone enables the private option, he can't see his own graphic,Agreed, that doesn't make much sense. Made a note to fix that.
but not the taglist,And that won't change; The taglist is part of your contribution to the database, not a personal list like votes/vnlist. If you don't want that to be public, don't vote on tags (and don't edit database entries, same thing).Last modified on 2015-10-24 at 07:43

A few minor/trivial requests:
1) Using the mouse to paste into the "Add staff" box does not search until you type/delete something. Using the keyboard to paste does work and searches after the paste. This actually seems to happen in all input boxes in the site.
2) In the "Add staff" box, when adding a name that has more than 10 hits there's no indication that there are more results. Ideally at the bottom there would be something like a "More results found" entry with a link to the staff search with your query in a new window.
3) The ability to search staff notes, e.g. a "Search staff notes" filter option
4) A "Has screenshots/no screenshots" search filter for VNs. Especially combined with the My Lists filter would make finding games that need them easier so screenshots can be added.

I'd like to propose to modify the filter, if possible.
It now searches the VNs with the tags, added to the "white list" regardless of tag votes. It would be nice to consider the votes.
For example, if I want to find a "Science Fiction" vn with good portion of "Romance", somehow present "Alternate Dimensions", and a comedy element (but not too much), I'd like to settle this that way.
There are two fields for the minimum and maximum vote values (a range) to which the results of our search should correspond. The left field is zero by default, but the filter should operate with the number greater than that by 0.1. Otherwise, the filter will display the results in which this tag is not even present.
As far as I know, the current filtration system allows this kind of results. Indeed, a user might be ready to sacrifice some tags, when his request gives little to no result. In this case, we can consider not greater but exact value of the left field, but in that case, I believe, the value of this field should be "0.1" by default. If the user is ready to "let go" this tag, he can enter a zero instead.
Right field, as you guessed it, has an upper limit above which the tag should be ignored during the search. The value by default is "3.0", of course.
Is it possible to implement something like that without much tragedy? :DLast modified on 2015-10-25 at 05:20

And that won't change; The taglist is part of your contribution to the database, not a personal list like votes/vnlist. If you don't want that to be public, don't vote on tags (and don't edit database entries, same thing).Ok, tags are not supposed to be subjective appreciation and by their objectiveness, they tend to be contributions, like entries, however, if you _need_ to see who contributed on the entries to engage a dialog, point out the black sheep, do we really need to see who tagged what? If someone wrongly tagged something, you can't "revert" their tagging, you can only rate the tag with a negative value, and that's why negative value exists. You don't need to know who wrongly tagged. I didn't find a "troll tag" thread, btw, after checking three pages of research.
After that, I have three little suggestions:
1/ can we have longer input fields for title/original title? Because most titles are overflowing those input fields and when I am transcribing an original title, I need to use the alias field to do it because I can't see the end of the original title.
2/ can the OP of a thread have the right to indefinitely edit his first post? Or only the possibility to edit the title and the relation(s) to the entry(ies)? Each time I asked on a thread to link the thread in question to the right entry, no mod answered my request. Sometimes, a thread is opened before the entry could have been created and it would be nice to be able to link the thread to the newly created entry.
3/ not sure about this one but what about a new column in the /hist with hours and minutes? Maybe on /t too?

When someone enables the private option, he can't see his own graphic,#106:
1/ can we have longer input fields for title/original title?Fixed.
...visibility of tag votes...This is a principle matter, I want database contributions to be as visible as possible, and won't add options to hide it. If the tagging information isn't being used now then maybe it's not visible enough.
3) The ability to search staff notes, e.g. a "Search staff notes" filter optionTo the staff browser? That's not going to be cheap, I think...
Other suggestions: Make sense and seem doable, but take a bit more time. I'll try to look at them.Last modified on 2015-10-28 at 18:49

I was thinking it'd be nice to have reviews on VNDB, but Yorhel, do you think those are unfitting as part of the "database", so to speak? I was thinking it'd be nice to have a "reviews" tab next to "discussion" tab just to encourage more people to post them but that may be drifting too far away from being a vn database.

No, reviews are on the to-do list. But that list is so damn huge and my time so damn limited that larger features just aren't likely to happen very soon.

1) The ability to mass-add VNs to a list by means of check boxes on the search list
2) The option to search for VNs that aren't in a specific language, like search all that don't have an English translation

To the staff browser? That's not going to be cheap, I think...Yeah, that's what I meant. It would be nice if possible but if it's much more work than adding a filter to search an extra column, it's not worth it.
In regards to the input field lengths for titles, I think the add page might have been missed.

It would be nice if you could add a language filter to the staff page.
And maybe moving the alias block on the staff pages to the side somewhere, though I guess it wouldn't really help change the length of the page that much with staff with tons of alias.

I'm thinking that a way to search for deleted items would be a good idea. For example, a check box near the search field saying something like "show deleted entries".
Currently there is just no easy way to find a deleted entry if you want to check something or undelete it.

And a way to find non-linked items (staff, producers) to help contributing. I bet I created some existing staff but forgot to link them to a VN.

@114: Seconded. Also, a related feature that might help cut down on people adding previously deleted stuff: Whenever someone tries to create a new entry, search the database for any deleted entries with the same name, and display them along with the deletion reason.

A way to Filter out VNs that are only partially translated.

#117 is a good one. However it encounters the same issue as my wish to filter based on platform and language. The issue there is that it searches for a VN where any release is in English and any release is for windows. This triggers VNs with Japanese only windows releases and English release for handheld (yes, those exist). Naturally such a search wants the two features present in the same release.
The issue is that what the database searches in is a cache in VNs where it stores languages and platforms present for the VN. To ensure it's the same release or to check for full/partial release, the database needs to cache even more data or look through all releases. Both solutions are more demanding on the server.
Also I fully agree with #114. Once in a while I get a notification about a VN, which is deleted. I get the ID, which is rendered useless due to being deleted, which leaves me with the question: what was on my wishlist (or whatever), which is now deleted? Releases might be affected by the same issue, not 100% sure.

I think its better to show hidden votes on game votes list, but with user names obfuscated. Like, "2015-11-01 10 anonymous", so it would be easier to spot votes manipulation.

I'm thinking that a way to search for deleted items would be a good idea.Hmm VNs kind-of have this, the first "add visual novel" form acts as a search form. But other entries don't have this. The recent changes browser can also be used to get a complete listing of hidden entries, but it doesn't have search. (Note that the "Show deleted items" filter is only visible to mods, but the filter itself works for everyone if you have the URL :)
@116: Like the VN form, but for everything?
Once in a while I get a notification about a VN, which is deleted. I get the IDBoth the notification and the (deleted) page still show the title of whatever is deleted.
And a way to find non-linked items (staff, producers) to help contributingI used to create reports for these waaay back when the IRC channel was still alive. Let's see if I can fix some useful reports now.
EDIT: Some reports: producers without releases, unlinked staff entries and unused staff aliases.Last modified on 2015-11-01 at 09:09

I didn't find a "troll tag" thread, btw, after checking three pages of research.
If I remember correctly, he went around and put -3 votes on every Yaoi related tag. So yeah, these people do exist. It's just much more work and the results are much faster removed than troll voting on the VNs themselves, so not many people bother with it.Last modified on 2015-11-01 at 09:30

I didn't actually know know we already had duplicate detection functionality for VNs. Since that would theoretically be the biggest offender we probably don't have to worry about doing it for the other types. And it could actually be inconvenient with characters considering the number that may share names. You can ignore my suggestion. :P

Hmm, I started to check all the tags that piled up and that raised an issue here. I got several tags request for popular engines to be tagged. Namely Ren'Py and RPG Maker. Now 4 entire years ago Ren'Py Engine was refused on the grounds that engines shouldn't be tagged and there might be some other way to note them. Is that going to be a thing?
I kind of leaning toward letting RPG Maker and Ren'Py engines tagged, since both of them are easily recognisable staples for the most part. On the other hand I have no intention to let any other engines through as tags.Last modified on 2015-11-01 at 10:06
