< report >I feel like if I wrote a review I should still be able to give points to a Review from someone else, I am okay with not giving myself a point... but realistically I'd like to say, jep that review is spot on and might be even better than mine

< report >I would be interested in making the sidebar search more fleshed out using operators. As it stands right now, you need to click on the menu hyperlinks to get to a specific search type, and it would be a bit more convenient if there were search operators you could use instead. Something like 'staff:Maeda Jun' or shortened to 's:Maeda Jun' would do a staff search directly.

I'd also really enjoy an exact search function. Right now if you search YU-NO or One. in the Visual Novel search I get a huge list of things which are clearly not what I'm looking for. If I could surround my search terms with quotation marks, it would be much easier to find VNs with overlapping names.

I am aware of the counterargument that adding search operators to the sidebar would be a non-negligible amount of work for features that already exist in another slightly less convenient form, so I understand if nobody is interested in implementing it. However, the exact search is something I'd really like to see.

< report >@1355 That reminds me, you can set up tab to search in your browser address bar and manually add different operators for different searches, I've been annoyed with the same problem where it defaults to searching vns. I think I'll add searches for 'vnpr' and 'vnst' or something along those lines for searching producers and staff.

< report >Is there a way to view your releases list from your user profile? I'm aware you can search for releases filtering by list status. If not I think it'd be a cool addition similar to the user vn list on the profile.

< report >If a review is marked as "This review contains spoilers.", and then someone comments on it, then in the "VN Discussions" block on the homepage it should be written something like
59 min ago [spoilers] Nanairo Reincarnation by zetiki
instead of
59 min ago Nanairo Reincarnation by zetiki
Maybe it should be
<span style="letter-spacing: -0.5px; font-size: 85%;">[spoilers]</span>
in the <a href>. Or <abbr title="Spoilers!">[Ѕ]</abbr> between the word "ago" and the <a href>, but that's not obvious that it's possible to hover on it, and it's hard to click on a single letter on a mobile device.
Currently, when I click on the link to my comment, I go directly from the homepage to my comment including autoscrolling to it because the link has #, but my comment contains spoilers which I didn't mark because I assumed others who haven't played yet see first the disclaimer "This review contains spoilers, click to view." which would dissuade them from reading comments below.

Same could be done with the list of all VNDB reviews: link

Also, in a user profile's "Browse posts" (link) comment-previews for such reviews should be automatically placed in the spoiler tag.

< report >In the VN search page, click on staff -> name, gender, language or role and then choose "does not have staff that matches this filters" (link)
For producers it's mostly the same: click on developer -> name, type or language and then choose "does not have a developer that matches this filters" (link)Last modified on 2022-09-06 at 10:14

< report >Can there be an option to change the date display for setting start/end dates? Or rather, maybe just change it to yyyy-mm-dd like it's displayed everywhere else on the site?
#1365 by adamstan
2022-09-06 at 16:54
< report >@1364 - I think it might depend on your system/locale settings? Because that's exactly how it's displayed on my lists. (yyyy-mm-dd)

Or do you mean the window/dialog that pops up when setting those dates for a VN? Because then yeah, it switches over to mm/dd/yyyy and it's weird (at least for anyone who isn't American :P )Last modified on 2022-09-06 at 16:55

< report >Would it be possible to show the release(s) a user added to their list in the recent votes page (the "show all" button page on VN entries)? There is no need to show it's status (deleted, obtained, etc.) and deleted releases can be omitted if you want.

This would be useful to check for votes for VNs which have different editions like remasters or remakes, so we know which vote correspond to which edition without messing the general VN rating and without checking the profiles one by one.Last modified on 2022-09-07 at 13:49

< report >I'd like to have tags for animated weather and static weather (that way we can include rain, fog and whatever else exists) and a tag for heroine themes (not necessarily for the vocal covers, but for instance the soundtrack playing whenever a heroine appears that can be found in many VNs: Anthurium being Senri Akane's theme, Humble Happiness being Isumi Yayoi's, etc)

< report >Obligatory user block option request number umpteenth. link
This is just one example of many, I saw this bait-y bullshit happening with reviews in the past as well, so i would like to have an option to not have posts and reviews by a person of my choosing shown in the future. Should be put in the profile like anything else, giving you options on the site, imo.

< report >I put another annoyance of mine here. These "reivews" the guy posted for a few days now are as helpful as a 5 min IGN review with "too much water" at the bottom of them. link I want an option to block this person's reviews from view ideally, but it might even suffice if I get a way to disable notifications for him specifically. Oh, I just saw, he marked them as "Full Reviews" as well, just amazing. :DLast modified on 2022-09-12 at 12:50

< report >Well, technically he couldn't flag them as Mini Reviews even if he wanted, as it goes way over 800 characters. Most of it is bloat, though. I tried for fun to strip one review from all the useless or redundant information and it barely went over 300 characters, heh.

I've been marking them as "not useful" because that's what I think, just like I did for that other numbers guy who used to do the same thing, but if people aren't downvoting it enough it gets hidden then I figure it must mean people like it...

On the topic of reviews, I find it funny how you can't sumbit a review if it's between 801 and 999 characters, as a Mini Review is 800 characters max, and a Full Review is 1000 characters min.

< report >I'm with #1371 here, those "reviews" are terrible. What makes them worse isn't even format, but the vagueness. Everything but screen resolution is never specified.
Most of those categories are strange too. There's three whole categories for the story and only one of them matters anyway(story&plot). The rest are highly subjective.

< report >I am 100% for flagging them. They are empty of any valuable information (worse, resolution and time are already handled somewhere else). It's a set of sub ratings with no explanation. Lazy would be an understatement given it's a piss-poor template. I don't want vndb to turn into steam and their so-called top "reviews" that are nothing else than shitposting or templates. We have very low requirements but I believe this is way below.

Unfortunately, I was denied when I tried to flag a similar user. :(
You can flood them like crazy. Imagine if I started spamming hundreds of those reviews. Like ten every day.
People agrees with me they don't like them at all given the negative scores.

< report >Those low effort reviews are indeed annoying. They tell absolutely nothing about the game, and the user can make those en masse based on the template.
