First,it is 2:20 in Cambridge,UK and i couldn't sleep for a reason:my heater just went blowing up on its own hence if i make some mistakes, just forgive me already
Second,i have just replay Muvluv-both the Extra and the Unlimited version. The main reason for this discussion is that i want to hear people's thought about the heroines of the novel
I think that most people play the game will go all out for Meiya's route in the beginning(as she is cute and get the most impression in my book for the 10 first minuites of the game) needless to say,i had also complete other's routesbut i still find that Meiya's route is the most decent route:it has some epic moving moments and the ending in the Extra is almost suprising They just have sex after she jumped right out off the roof?Seriously,it is just AWESOME.In addition,in Unlimited,it is just the matter of carrying my choice from Extra so it didn't give me the hard time to choose to complete her route, and beside i have a thing for princess character. And guess what, she is somewhat tsun and is not good at expressing herself(is it count as spoiler-i don't think so) so in the end,i chose her to play until the ending despite the fact that i had completed it more than 3 times already. So to say,Meiya is the one that left such huge feelings in my mind.Eventhough she can not compare with others heroines in all my favourite VN in term of characteristics( i found her pride is more disturbing than commendable) but she is sure a reason why i have the resolve to finish Extra and planning to complete her route in Alternative. Is it the same for everyone else or are you have different feelings?
Now we move onto Alternative. As i said in the above paragraph,I planned to finish Meiya's route but after i see the picture of Sumika in the poster of Alternative(I think that it is Sumika, unless i was wrong) i almost change my mind and I went to play Sumika's route for EXtra right after that. Her face is just so loveable, and by that i meant her expression. It is just so chilling and nostalgic that I found myself gazing at the picture for more than 5 minuites.(now i feel like i am just fall in love with a imagination character-Sigh....)Her expression is somewhat sad and it seems so surreal,so ephemeral,it is just so beautiful(i must admit,my heart skipped a beat when i first saw that).(whoever draw that picture, can you draw a A0 for me?i will stick it to my wall to have the opportunity to see that face every morning)Hence,i planned to play her route first when i get hand on the translation patch.I have already bought it through my connections but i do not want to apply the first patch as it may left me in the sate of the corpse for the whole time waiting for the complete translation to come out. Any way, again,do you have any different opinions, regard who you will play in Alter?
PS:my thanks for Amaterasu for translating Muvluv,or even Crosschannel and Sekien no Inganock, they are all awesome VNs that keep me reading again and agin

I preferred Sumika over Meiya in Extra. She was just so lovable - her tsunderish behaviour, her obsession with Takeru eating her food and it is just too sad in the end not to chose her. Meiya's "jump into bed" ending was more WTF than awesome imho. In the Unlimited all the routes were identical which disappointed me to some degree and didn't let me connect to heroines.
As for Alternative as far as I know it is linear there are no routes.

That Meiya scene was definitely awesome. Not much of a fan of her as a character though. I'm in the Sumika camp.

I agree that in extra, Sumika's romance made about 20x more sense than Meiya's (as i have already pointed out in another thread, if our dear protag was at least marginally logical, he would have kicked out Meiya the first day she appeared). And her H-scene is mind-bogglingly stupid. They fall into a bed prepared for them?! Let's see how probable that is:
-First of all, whoever prepared that bet had to assume Takeru would snatch her from the middle of the event instead of taking a sneaky approach.
-Then they had to assume that they will be chased to the roof.
-Then they had to assume where they would go on said roof.
-And THEN they had to plant the bed and weaken the woodwork of the roof above it, while making sure that it won't collapse the entire thing and kill them both.
How are the chances of that, huh? This is lazy writing at it's worst!

That said, in Extra, my favorite is Tama (and no, it has nothing to do with her being the token loli).

No,you have choices in what heroines you will send to the different planet or stay on earth. It is the same for every girls in that sense but in the end,it's more like you end up wit different endings

It is somewhat imagination, true. As i read your post, gabe,i realized that it sound kind of stupid. But think about it,never in my life i heard something or saw something like that( and i doubt about the propability that i will in the future)---->so you know,it is awesome in its own sense
By the way,i just realized that i will try to finish Ayamine's route for Alter as she is quite interesting
That said, in Extra, my favorite is Tama (and no, it has nothing to do with her being the token loli).
Please, gabe, don't bend the truth. It is not too embaressed to admit your hobby, you know?[/smirk]Last modified on 2010-11-25 at 12:03

Who cares about the law?

Its not like the UK is in a witch hunt against people who play that...

Well, I definitely did prefer Sumika in Extra. I recall during my first play-through feeling quite sorry for her when playing through the other routes. Albiet I really don't like how its srsly just one or the other at the end of Extra since since either you leave Sumika and never see her again, or Meiya leaves and you never see her again . Frankly, if I was him, I would have strategically married Meiya for her money and kept Sumika as a Mistress..... or at least tried to work out an arrangement with the both of them.

Meiya is definitely better in Unlimited. Frankly, she was the only heroine I did. Should I play thru the other routes in extra though?

Don't.They suck and the endings are completely the same, except with slightly different dialogue.Last modified on 2010-11-25 at 21:29

Are you sure you're not thinking of Unlimited? Those routes do suck and are pretty much the same, though the Game Guy scene with Chizuru is pretty cool.

The Extra routes are all quite different, and I actually liked them more than Sumika and Meiya's routes (partly because I hated Sumika and Meiya in Extra). They're pretty standard VN stuff, but they're not bad.

I thought I was the only one. Though for me the reason wasn't a dislike of the characters, it was a dislike of shitty love triangles and my favorite heroine not getting a route to herself.

Totally agree with you, or at the very least a joke end like Marimo and Yuko had.....

I personally think they need to add a rout for Mikoto since he's actually a She in both realities just more secretive in Extra or at least that's what I think........ you can see why I think that in the other thread I made "Is it just me?" in the Muv-Luv Discussion board.Last modified on 2010-11-29 at 07:04

@8:

You see, those so-called "laws" are just for formality purposes only. I'll admit there's too many VN in my hard disk, which holds my ever precious... uhmm... you know... but how could they ever sue me because of that? To 'investigate' my hard disk would automatically mean trespassing on my property rights. I could already sue them before them sue-ing me.

Also, If ever they'll investigate my HDD, I could simply rename a "setup.exe" file into something like "setup.inf" so... yeah.Last modified on 2010-11-29 at 12:04

Not to mention you can easily destroy what ever proff the harddrive stores by opening and scratching the discs with a pointy object...

There is another fact that DMCA will only go as far as to sue people who sell/distribute pirated stuff.
Trying to weed out everysingle person who is using pirated stuff is down right impossible.

*sigh* I was thinking about replaying MLE and MLU before starting on the main dish, but whatever. I have so little time lately that I completely forgot to breath for the last few weeks and the only reason I'm still alive is because I can't be bothered to die... -_-

Anyways, I decided to finally start reading MLA, though I think I will have to forcefully keep my head cool and forget all the hype beforehand. Still, there is just one tiny questions that just keeps clinging to the back of my head like an orphan rhesus monkey and just refuses to let go no matter how much I try to shake it off. The reason is quite simple: Utsuge. This goddamn tag caught my eye yesterday and I just have to ask:

Really? Is MLA an utsuge? And if it is, how much? You see, there is a huge economic crisis hanging over my country's head like a fat, greasy Damocles' Sword ready to fall at any given moment, no doubt turning all of us into savages and making our neighborhood reminiscent of a bad Mad Max backdrop, so I really want to know if reading this game would give me the "What a bummer..." status effect in this Fallout dystopia, instantly reducing my survival skill to a big fat zero and rendering me easy prey to the wandering S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s...? -.-'

P.S.: Goddammit, I forgot to work a Planet of the Apes reference into that sentence... I'm losing my touch... T_T

Not really Utsuge, it's more Nakige, but really, really depressing at times. There's still hope at the end, however.

There is hope at the end, why it's labelled as utsuge is because 90% of it is about making you feel like shit, unlike nakiges which start you off on a happy note, and gradually ease you into the sadness bit. So, although the re is hope at the end, don't expect to be happy for a large part of this VN, lol.

The three words that best describe MLA would be "It got worse."Last modified on 2011-08-10 at 19:21

MLA does an exact opposite actually, this whole VN is like a shock therapy inspiring gar'ness in a reader. Feel free to shed manly tears and salute to some characters xD (well, I didn't actually salute but sure had a strong urge to do so few times).

It's a sad game indeed but I wouldn't call it depressing. It's bittersweet (more bitter than sweet though).

Thanks for the answers. The actual thing I was wondering about was the ending, as "utsuge" implies a downer, or at lest ambiguously depressive ending, so I figured I better ask...

BTW, I started reading, and these first three hours were amazing. Right now I'm at the point where Takeru first meets Mikoto's fater, and the whole "I know the future and will do things better" element of the story was awesome. It was really cool seeing a tremendously more competent Takeru dealing with the issues the MLU Takeru sucked at, although I have this nagging feeling that him "cheating" around the whole squad-building will bite him in the ass later...

Man, I have to continue this as well. Have read 6 chapters I think. Then I had to do some preparing for university exams, so I took a break.

I have yet to see anything which could explain the hype it gets. If it stays on this level I could see it getting an 8/10, though I can also see plenty of things it could do to get a worse rating. (And of course it could also become better) Well, I never thought it would be a masterpiece for me anyway, and even the current 8/10 is sort of an surprise for me.

Nonetheless, the absolutely weakest link is still MLE and it keeps haunting me in MLA, in a very very bad way. Also Sumika. Blah. I have my doubts this gets better than 8/10.
