Description

In a mysterious school where day and night are two separate worlds, a mismatched trio works to resolve magic-related incidents.

Michiru is a newly enrolled first-year student at a boarding school with a notably large clock tower, located deep in the mountains. Unfortunately, on his first day of school, he gets caught up in some sudden trouble, and accidentally breaks an expensive-looking statue.

In order to compensate for the broken statue, the principal orders him and the boy who caused the incident to work for the school’s “Bureau for the Investigation of Special Affairs.”

When they arrive at the Bureau’s headquarters, a room situated in the school’s enormous underground library, a girl is waiting for them there with an apathetic look on her face.

The girl informs the confused pair of the situation: Magic exists in this school.

When the clock tower chimes, the “Realm of Night” appears, and merges with the school building. The Bureau’s job is to take care of the supernatural problems that arise. And so, Michiru struggles to protect the school from troublesome magical items known as “Mists”...

<report>I overall enjoyed this game. The setting and overall plot device was interesting. The game itself takes on the form of various mystery/detective cases around the school campus which was fun. The writing was very witty and got more than a few genuine laughs out of me. There are many common character tropes here but I felt like all of them were done really well and had something unique to offer. Even tropes that I generally just don’t like were well done. Characters like Omaru and Neko would normally be borderline annoying to me but I found them both pretty endearing.

The 2 “side” heroine routes were a little bit of a mixed bag. While there were many good moments along the way, looked at... Read more »

<report>The Leyline series is often recommended to beginners studying Japanese on account of the prose being quite easy to read. The art also looked good and what I had heard about it seemed good to me. For these reasons, I decided to take the plunge and read this.

This episode is slightly above 300k moji in total length and took me about 33 hours to complete. There are three heroines: Furoyamachi Neko, Mibu Tsubaki, and the true ending heroine, Shishigatani Ushio. The VN handles routes with a ladder structure; there are chapters focusing on each heroine, and depending on your choices you either advance to the next one or end up in the route of said heroine. The 'route' is basically an extra... Read more »

<report>This title is a strange combination of sticking to the traditional formula, while maintaining a strong desire to deliver something different. In essence, the expected tropes remained, (they understand what works), but at every chance they get, a "curve ball is thrown". This is just a way of saying that I ended up liking the general direction or mindset of the VN, and in a sub-genre filled with "above average is the actual average", this one goes beyond. That's what I like to see.

I will start with technical aspects, and then move to what I consider important:

Starting with visuals, I'd like to point out the effects, symbols and motions, they help when bringing the characters to life. The... Read more »

<report>tl;dr: A somewhat slow but really solid start to a mystery series with a lot of room to grow.

This visual novel is the first in a trilogy centered around the Bureau for the Investigation of Special Affairs at Libra Lapis Lazuli Private Academy. This is a very unique high school that unbeknownst to most of it’s students, serves as a hiding place for a number of magic objects known as Mists. However, these Mists have somewhat of a will of their own, and when someone within the academy deeply desires whatever power they possess, they escape from their vault and appear before them. This can cause all sorts of havoc, and thus the Bureau has been charged by the principal with investigating and... Read more »
