Description

In a mysterious school where day and night are two separate worlds, a mismatched trio works to resolve magic-related incidents.

Michiru is a newly enrolled first-year student at a boarding school with a notably large clock tower, located deep in the mountains. Unfortunately, on his first day of school, he gets caught up in some sudden trouble, and accidentally breaks an expensive-looking statue.

In order to compensate for the broken statue, the principal orders him and the boy who caused the incident to work for the school’s “Bureau for the Investigation of Special Affairs.”

When they arrive at the Bureau’s headquarters, a room situated in the school’s enormous underground library, a girl is waiting for them there with an apathetic look on her face.

The girl informs the confused pair of the situation: Magic exists in this school.

When the clock tower chimes, the “Realm of Night” appears, and merges with the school building. The Bureau’s job is to take care of the supernatural problems that arise. And so, Michiru struggles to protect the school from troublesome magical items known as “Mists”...

Mini reviews

<report>The genuine prologue to the Leyline series - this installment is filled primarily with slice-of-life and is in itself, not that interesting. The focus on the plot is kept to a minimum, with the arc-based, heroine routes focused more on everyday tedium than on setting anything up substantially. Characters are introduced, but only some of them are developed (and others disappear). Reader is able to 'feel' the set-up to something greater in the future - would not take this chapter to be indicative of the future, more interesting installments.

<report>A pretty lighthearted and fun introduction to the series. Mostly slice of life with the overall mystery of the school being presented to the reader as a set up for the other installments.

The main content of the vn has the cast dealing with magical artifacts that are causing problems in the school, character development, and some worldbuilding.

It felt like the entire VN was one large route for the main heroine, with the others being an afterthought. The romance towards to end of the game was a bit of a letdown due the forced nature of it, which finished on an anticlimactic note.

The overall experience I had was fun enough, but nothing special or memorable due to minor introductions of the plot. I hope the sequels are better like the other reviews stated. So I kept this review short.

<report>This honestly comes across like they have written a single route with Ushio's storyline first and afterwards tagged on more routes. And boy does it show! If you read this in the future, you could even skip the other routes and pretty much miss nothing of any worth!

Especially Neko's route which should be something interesting due to her being from another world it feels not just pointless but also like potential doing some genuinely great world-building to further explore the setting outside the school itself was just wasted away on an annoying joke character. Tsubaki's route is slightly better, and she does get some character development. But the main plot beats of it are once again better developed and explained in Ushio's route.

So temper your expectations!

<report>this is my first visual novel that has a coherent story so to me this is a masterpiece. i really enjoyed everything about the visual novel. i especially like how the sections are split up like they're episodes so i can have parts that are good to take breaks at. really good visual novel overall. setting for the story is great, characters are great, game itself is nice to look at & modern. great story, good plot twists, each route is really fun. definetly reccommend anyone play this.

<report>This truly is one of the best visual novel I have played. The thing that makes this visual novel stand out among the ones I have played is it's voice over which is one of the best. It's characters and with everyone having their own quirks is very refreshing. And also it has a fair share of male main characters along with female main characters which makes this among the very few to do this. The mc is very much likeable. And the story hooked me till the last which very few visual novel has been able to do so.
