Description

In the distant future, a gigantic energy mass called the "Star of Destruction" suddenly appears near Mars. Its presence causes abnormal weather and tectonic plate shifts on Earth. As resources become scarce and populations have nowhere to go, conflicts erupt worldwide. This, however, is merely an omen of things to come.

Only a hundred years remain for humanity. They plan to evacuate the planet to evade its doom. Two projects are drafted to meet that end.

First is the establishment of Earth's Unified Government, which will allow the project to be implemented. Evacuating Earth becomes a top priority, and the order of "sacrificing the few to save the many" is implemented. Authoritarian rule controls the masses. Armed force oversees states and non-governmental organizations that oppose the new world order. The overwhelming military power maintains order regarding race, religion, food, energy, etc.

The second is the "Felix Project," which will serve as the foundation for the exodus plan. With only 100 years left, humanity needs to build a spaceship to leave the planet and acquire the technology to survive in the vacuum of space for a long time. They decided to create "Felix," genetically modified people with extraordinary intelligence and longevity. These "superhumans" will be able to complete the seemingly impossible project.

99 years pass.
A lone female Felix, Sion, has served her role as the central figure in the Earth Evacuation Project. With her job completed, Sion wishes to spend her remaining time quietly on the abandoned Earth. A young man, Ryo Haruna, from the unified military, is deployed to her side to protect and keep her in check.

Their meeting sets the story in motion.
The final love story on Earth.

<report>This game is made by the studio and scenario writer which did Ef - A Fairy Tale of the two. That was my only info going into it.

If you know those pieces of information only and thus have similar expectations like i had at the start. Be warned, this game will do nothing at all with the interesting setting and expects you to disregard all the interesting sci-fi and most of the military elements in favor of the characters only. Which could be fine for some, but it's also compounded by the structure of being a kinetic novel. All of this left me very disappointed at the very end of the game.

I didn't buy the plot drama with the impending comet impact. (It never really looked like one... Read more »

<report>In the end, Eden* managed to surprise me more than I'd imagined it would. I now feel a little stupid for being overly critical of it in the first hours of the story, and that's because it's the calmest life and death drama.

The world is ending, and people are leaving it and heading to space, but that's okay, because through what seems to look like the end of a planet, hope can be seen, and life on a new planet might just be born all because of the desire for survival.

Eden really managed to make the end of the world look hopeful, it made death feel serene. That ominous red star in the sky, that omen of death? It looks quite beautiful if you look at it a little closer. Take away... Read more »

<report>Rating: 7/10 ("Good")

Recommended for: People who enjoy visual novels, people who enjoy romance and/or tragedy.

eden* is a kinetic novel with no routes that took me approximately 17 hours to read. The last portion of the story had me taking many breaks, however, as it dredged up many painful memories for me. In the emotional aspect, the VN is effective.

It tells the story of Sion, a scientifically created genius, and Ryou, a hardened soldier, and how they find solace in one another. But more than that, it is also a story of coming to terms with the death of loved ones, and moving on. It will almost assuredly make you cry. If you're uncomfortable with such subject matter, it's advisable... Read more »

<report>The setting of a a future world on the verge of the End seems to lend itself to a grand story of humanity's defiance and perseverance, full of drama and political intrigue. Eden* however explores themes like this a a much smaller, almost microcopic setting with only a few characters appearing on stage. This small scale allows room for development between the characters, mainly the protagonist, officer Ryou Haruna and Sion, the woman who made humanity's escape to the stars a possibility that he finds himself protecting and eventually falling in love with. Especially the second half is spent almost entirely with these two, and so their relation is developed pretty well. The world in general... Read more »

<report>I want to start this review by saying that the story had potential and it could’ve been done much better, if it wouldn’t have been so slow paced and wouldn’t have so much boring parts. I mean, I’ve played VNs with over 40h of playtime where I would play for 6h/day. Unfortunately, even though this game was shorter, I struggled to finish it in one week. I think my most played time was near the end where I’ve played for 5h straight. I’ll discuss the story and boring parts a little later.

GAME MECHANICS

This was my first experience of a VN with facial expressions, as Lip Sync and blinking. I liked the idea, but I think the lip syncing could’ve had some improvements, however the blinking was... Read more »
