<report>⭐ Nitroplus's cyberpunk zombie thriller, set in an ice-age wasteland Tokyo where technologically advanced zombie killers use gun-kata to kill necromancers and zombies.

Pros:
• Strong thematic messages about finding humanity in a world of death
• The act of Necromancy and how it affects one’s self and relationships leads to compelling character drama
• Great exploration of different what-if scenarios based on character deaths
• Exciting 2D & 3D action sequences with great music pairing

Cons:
• Unique UI elements get annoying & cumbersome after a while
• Cliche and overly deliberate prose writing of Tokyo Necro's thematic elements leading up to its endings
• Kiriri lacks characterization
• HEAVY emphasis on sci-fi topics

<report>One of the best scenarios I've read in a long time hampered by slightly-above-average quality writing.

After realizing how the VN was structured with both MCs being alive in the first route, then one dead and the other alive and vice versa on the second and third, I was super interested in how the final route would pull them being both dead off and it fully delivered on that. I honestly do wish the main villain got a bit more screentime and a slightly better ending with how much of a "final boss" vibe he gave off, and the ending of the true route wasn't quite what I thought fit straight up after the 4th route, but still a thoroughly enjoyable vn.

<report>Great VN overall enjoyed it quite alot. The endings were a bit lacking for most of the routes but the true ending was truly worth all the buildup and all the plots and the message of the VN came together really well in the true ending. The characters were all very well written my personal fav character was hands down iria, she was absolutely amazing in terms of what she means to the overall story how her character is so essential to connecting everyone together. Ethica was also really good and her character story comes together really well, especially in the true ending with her and Soun. Just a very solid visual novel overall.

<report>I really wanted to love this!! It's a super moving story with many shock scenes and great plot elements and the pacing is sooo good in the middle!! I love the characters!! イリア! そううん!エチカもかもしれない!

But I can't recommend it with all the weird fights that happen (god these are so dragged out and get repetitive against the basic enemies) and the endings have such WEIRD pacing.

This took me 69 hours to read 763k characters in japanese, at roughly 11k/hour, if my reading speed was native (25k+/hr) I probably would have enjoyed this a lot more and probably rated it a 9/10 or 10/10, but due to slow reading speed the slow repetitive scenes really worn me out over time. Still a fun read :)

<report>Tokyo Necro did not quite match the previous titles that I have read from Nitro+ but certainly was an enjoyable experience overall.

One of the main things I appreciated were the full 3D animations, and a lot of them at that in the fight scenes, confrontations, and to aid with worldbuilding (mainly traveling scenes to new destinations and such). These were combined with the more classic 2D action style of moving sprites. The 2D action in particular was fast paced, entertaining, and refined.

The 3D animations felt like something new they were trying and experimenting with. More than a few scenes were clunky and lacked detail, with the characters looking a bit 'off' at times. It took a... Read more »

<report>Oh boy, it is a hard to recommend game for sure. A perfect example of a good game that requires you to sit through hours of bland content before you get to the juicy parts.

Mitsumi: Let's be honest, do you really need this route? You can remove it from the game and still understand the main plot. It's not bad but there is nothing to keep your attention. Unless you like girls like Mitsumi, I guess.

Con Su: Despair level raises, you get some reveals, but something is still missing. Though, it's interesting to have a route without romance.

And then you get to Kiri and Iria routes, and these are on a completely different level.

Iria is a perfect conclusion to Tokyo Necro. A bit slow at... Read more »

<report>Simply a good or maybe even great Visual Novel.

Visual Aspects:

Now what do I think about the Visual part of it? Frankly, There's way too many things going on in my head and I will try to condense and compartmentalize it by 3; Background, Characters and Erotic;

First off, the Background of this game is simply nice. For some reason, they added effects on almost every scenery that will grace your screen. Lights, Snow, Rain or water or whatever that is, they simply added some form of animation with it and I appreciate that since one part of VNs is Visual. Also adding the fact that I really love the UI on this game. I wished that more studios use a much more animated UI displays, It felt... Read more »

<report>Tokyo Necro is a one-of-a-kind game. Its sci-fi setting and worldbuilding are really awesome, and the essence of its fight scenes, which are 3D PS2-style gunkata is just super stylish and cool and really gives the game a one-of-a-kind distinction. However, for all its pros, the game also has some not-so-subtle issues.

For one, the line-by-line writing is just 'ok' and involves some rather repetitive sentence structure (possibly thanks to the fight scenes which often move and demand it). Compared to games like Muramasa, Kikokugai, Hanachirasu, etc, it's just clearly not up to par. The dialogue is also just 'alright', and while is never out of character, isn't particularly memorable for the... Read more »

<report>Tokyo Necro is a vn which feels like it's going through the motions; shambling towards the finish line.

It wears the appearance of a VN from the company's glory days -- but its not.
The person who came up with the world, the characters, the general outline, wasn't the one who wrote most of it. That task was left to Vio Shimokura of Totono fame. While I'm going to critique this VN a lot in this review, I still think that Vio did a pretty good job given the way the vn was setup and the fact that he ultimately had to fill in the details for someone else's story. Unfortunately this here is the VN's ultimate weakness. That the person writing the story was incompattible and lacking the... Read more »

<report>I don't think i need to bring up how thought-provoking this VN turns out to be about life and death because the other reviews on here already did. What i can say is that it's seriously impressive how this can combine the ridiculousness that you usually see in Nitroplus VNs with that whole thought-provoking aspect. Regardless of route, the climax of the story can present the craziest sci-fi nonsense and you still can get interested because of how engaging the characters envolved are, despite the repetitiveness at the beginning of a few routes because the route split is in one major scene. Very much recommended for those looking for an action VN with a bit more substance and arguably the best... Read more »

<report>Being a while since the last time I read a VN, so decided it would be "Tokyo Necro" a tittle which I've being thirsty to try it out since it got translated on March. Needless to say it became one of my favorite Nitro+ tittles. How it throws a mesh of ideas altogether and the fucking commitment to make it work is phenomenal.

Setting up the world into an ice age cyberpunk future japan, an hopeless land infested of living dead, threatening by necromancers. And only our fellow dead stalkers shall bring light to our so longed tomorrow, yet to come. For no surprises here, Tokyo Necro is imbued with themes and dualities which progressively escalates.

From creating it's own UI packed with... Read more »
