<report>YU-NO was an extremely influential visual novel being the one that popularized the multiple route murder mystery. Unfortunately due to its age many aspects of the novel feel very dated even compared to some of its contemporaries.

The romantic drama in each route feels incredibly contrived and relies on extremely cliche problems and nonsensical miscommunication between characters. Most of the heroines don't get a lot of depth and feel pretty forgettable. There are two exceptions to this, Mio and Kanna, but the relationships in their routes feel sidelined by the greater mystery which doesn't end up making up for this.

The multiple routes don't actually play off of each other very well and... Read more »

<report>I did not have any expectations coming into YU-NO and I imagine that's for the best. This one is estranged from the more modern Novels, it's 1996 after all, but the time capsule that is this game makes it twice the game had it been released today.

You play as... you know what? Let's get the boring stuff out of the way as quick as we can. You'll play as the "walking libido", in an imaginary town in Japan, Earth, with a predominantly female cast. You'll be clicking on your surroundings until your index finger hurts, and pressing CTRL button until your pinkie goes numb (because of backtracking, replaying and etc). You'll be subjected to an overwhelming amount of dirty jokes and fan service in... Read more »

<report>"Yu-No a Girl Who Chants love at the bounds of this world". A beautiful and long title that made me first think that it was a romantic visual novel. Boy, was I wrong.
This game is a click-and-point adventure game that is part of the scifi/fantasy mystery genre, and is a former eroge. It has multiple routes and several death scenes/bad ends. That is the type of game that I really enjoy.

The branching story tree is long and since it's invisible at first it may appear overwhelming to complete. But all in all it's really not that bad - just go with the flow and see where the tree leads you throughout the story. I'm not going in any detail on the story itself, because I want you to enjoy the... Read more »

I found this game to be totally amazing.

The plot was great. Mind you, it's first "multiple route mystery" game that I've played, but I really enjoyed the story. I was going in order suggested in walkthrough (Mitsuki & Eriko -> Ayumi -> Mio -> Kaori -> Kanna) - which is actually the only one possible without horrendous amount of backtracking. It's awesome how the small pieces of information slowly form big picture. But then, it still all gets turned upside down in epilogue, with its many twists. Also, the idea of integrating the route system itself into the story was brilliant.

From main game, I think my favourite routes were Mio... Read more »
