Description

The game takes place after the events of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. The Story Mode has three scenarios: Chronophantasma, Sector Seven and Six Heroes.

January, 2200AD
It's been over one week since the loop came to an end.
Having destroyed the Cauldrons, Ragna had finished his quest.

However...
There was still unfinished business in his books.
To defeat his now-revived nemesis, Terumi.
Terumi abducts the Successor of the Azure, Noel, and forces the Master Unit, Amaterasu to appear in the human plane.
Hatred and vengeance awaken the Sword of the Godslayer, Kusanagi (Mu -No.12-).

Ragna sacrifices his own flesh and blood to save Noel, but even that Terumi had predicted.
In a small window of opportunity, Terumi nullifies Takamagahara.

It was all a part of their—
The NOL's highest commanding leader, the Imperator's will.
Later, Kokonoe restores Ragna's flesh...
...and he sets his course for the Federation's Hierarchical City: Ikaruga.
Little did he know, he would encounter the phantoms of time, the Chronophantasma, at his destination.

Dislikes: Ghosts, the Novus Orbis Librarium

Ragna the Bloodedge is a wanted criminal with an extraordinarily large bounty on his head (well in the trillions) for attempting to destroy the Novus Orbis Librarium, and is Jin and Saya's older brother. He is a playable character and the main protagonist of the BlazBlue series. He possesses heterochormia due to the side effect from assimilating the Azure Grimoire into his body.
Ragna is sardonic, rude, and abrasive to anyone he comes across. He is also quick to anger, stubborn, and never misses a chance to use as much vulgar language as possible. In this regard, Ragna is similar to the stereotypical anime delinquent. This is caused mainly by Yuuki Terumi practically destroying Ragna's life, which has created a mass of hatred in him; stronger than that of any other individual. Ragna often becomes infuriated at first sight of Terumi, which he often takes advantage of through taunting him. However, even in cases where he cannot win or is on the brink of death, Ragna possesses an undying will and refuses to give up, something many characters either hate or admire.

Beneath his gruff exterior, however, Ragna does possess a softer, more compassionate side. He chooses to keep up his public front because of the path he chose – that of revenge. He does genuinely care for certain people, such as Taokaka, Rachel, Noel, Jubei and, to an extent, his brother, Jin. He spared Arakune's life due to Litchi's pleas, and in his Arcade Mode, he directly references his promise to Litchi to let him live after he defeats him. Also, despite Jin's role in the destruction of his life, still cares for him as a brother.

Ragna is an extremely powerful individual within the world of BlazBlue, having been trained in combat and ars magus by Jubei, wielding an Azure Grimoire and a rather unusual sword called Blood-Scythe, he is able to easily take down entire squads of the Librarium by himself. Being the wielder of an Azure Grimoire, Ragna is able to manipulate darkness in the form of the various body parts of the Black Beast through his Drive, Soul Eater, which also absorbs the opponent's life force to replenish his own. By utilizing an ability called "Blood Kain", Ragna is able to use his Azure Grimoire to greatly enhance his physical abilities and strengthens his Drive, although it wears down his own life force during its duration.

Description

Hobbies: Strolls
Likes: Sister, family
Dislikes: Nothing

Celica Ayatsuki Mercury is the younger sister of Nine, Jubei's sister-in-law and aunt of Kokonoe. She is a playable character in Chrono Phantasma Extend and Central Fiction. After the Dark War, she watched over the Black Beast's remains and built a church. She was also the previous owner of the Nox Nyctores, Deus Machina: Nirvana, but both she and Trinity sealed Nirvana at some point.

Celica was brought back by Kokonoe in Chrono Phantasma to activate Kushinada's Lynchpin. This particular Celica is not actually the original; she is, is in fact, a kind of time-displaced duplicate called a "Chronophantasma", that Kokonoe made by making a copy of Celica's soul from a point in time where she had entered the Boundary and placing it in a cloned body. Kokonoe also made a copy of Nirvana for Celica called Ex Machina: Minerva, which both protects her and acts as an amplifier for her powers.

Celica is a kind, generous, and sociable person who deeply loves her sister and friends. She is a sentimental individual who maintains a firm stance that all life is precious and will use her healing magic to assist those in need of it, regardless of who or what they are. She is also shown to be selfless to the point that she will shield a person with her own body without any hesitation and is willing to sacrifice herself, believing that her sacrifice will be a small price to pay for the chance to defeat the Black Beast and save the world.
It has also been noted by people that she has no sense of direction, which usually ends with her getting lost. She is also shown to be very stubborn, such as when she ignores her sister's warnings and heads to Japan by herself to search for her missing father and is also unwilling to admit that she has a poor sense of direction.

Celica has the rare ability to use healing Magic. She has been shown to heal most wounds, although she cannot use her magic to remove illnesses such as seithr poisoning. She has also exhibited the latent ability to suppress seithr, and it is for this reason that Celica is the key to Kushinada's Lynchpin, a device created to seal the seithr within the Gate, and thus disrupt the source of the Black Beast's power, although at the cost of her life. This also makes her the ultimate weakness of the Azure Grimoire as Ragna was unable to see through his right eye and move or use his Grimoire as long as he was near her.

Hazama is a captain of the Novus Orbis Librarium's Intelligence Department and one of the main antagonists in the series. He originally appeared as a non-playable character in the story mode of Calamity Trigger, but starting with Continuum Shift, he became a playable character.

Hazama maintains a calm and quiet demeanor around most people, pretending to be harmless as a member of the Intelligence Department. He claims to hate fighting and prefers to avoid conflict. This, however, is simply a guise to his true nature. When people see through it, he shows his true colors as selfish and manipulative; destroying other people's lives and twisting their beliefs for his own gain. He has no qualms with killing those who got in his way and showed absolutely no remorse for his actions.

To most, Jin is apathetic, cold, distant, and aloof, barely showing any emotion to anyone. He is much more complex than most would initially think thanks to years of influence under Yukianesa and Order. He has a deep brotherly love for his brother Ragna, a love that both aforementioned factors manipulated into something twisted and corrupted. Another person that Jin has a strong attachment to is his childhood friend Tsubaki - the two of them will do nearly anything for one another and she is one of a few people that truly understands him. In the timeline where Jin became Hakumen, Tsubaki's death haunted and wracked him with guilt for nearly 100 years. His most complicated relationship is with Noel, someone who he despises for looking like his sister. As time goes on, however, he begins to become softer towards her.

Prior to gaining control of Yukianesa, Jin was prone to emotional and mental outbursts. He would allow the Nox to control him and make decisions without his consent, attacking both friends and foes alike. Once he solidified his control, Jin began to formerly identify more with Order and to destroy anything that would oppose it.

As a child, Jin was described as a "crybaby", being sensitive and extremely attached to Ragna. He was often jealous of the attention that Saya was shown and would cry whenever Ragna was ill. He was also terrified of the moon, thinking it would crash at any second; as he grew older, the fear of the moon turned into a hatred. As a teenager in the Military Academy, Jin was popular, cool, and calm, being seen as a model student by all.

Kagura Mutsuki is an NOL general, and the head of the Duodecim's Mutsuki family known as the Black Knight as well as the representative Novus Orbis Librarium officer in the 5th Hierarchical City of Ibukido.

Kagura is shown to have a laidback attitude, taking things very casually, in stark contrast to some characters in the BlazBlue series. He is described to be more empathic to the people than the government. He is shown to be a pervert, attempting to grope Makoto's breasts and analyzes most female opponent's B-W-H measurements. However, he has no interest in underage females such as Platinum (he remarks how she should get back to him in 10 years in his Victory Quote) and repeatedly states how he dislikes entertaining men. However, in special cases, some females are exempt from his usual treatment, like Tsubaki, Kokonoe and Rachel (although he still asks Rachel out on a date in his Victory Quote).

He tends to flirt with almost any woman he encounters and tries several times to invite Noel to dates but they have all ended in failure due to Makoto's interference (mostly a punch in the face). On a serious note, Kagura became enraged and tried to kill Arakune when the latter attacked Noel, showing a protective side to him (although it is likely this extends to all women). He is also surprisingly humble as he frequently attributes his many "successes" to the fact that he has "great subordinates".

Description

Hobbies: Collecting candy from around the world
Likes: Ferrero Rocher chocolates
Dislikes: Stereotypes

Kokonoe is a scientist at Sector Seven, and the daughter of Jubei and Nine, two of the Six Heroes, though she shows disdain for this fact, supposedly "staying angry for weeks" when Jubei is mentioned. The reason behind this is that Jubei left her in the care of the Novus Orbis Librarium for a great deal of her childhood, apparently not staying around to act as a father figure to her. She is became a playable character in Chronophantasma.

Kokonoe is a rather serious and cynical woman with no regard for emotions, and always strives for Tager to complete his missions without fail; however, she can on rare occasions be quite personable, mostly around her creations. She is displayed and perceived as cranky and foul-mouthed most of the time. She and Taokaka possess a few similar personality traits, something that most note as "more in common than they realize", due to their impatient nature and short attention span. She has some traits of her father and her mother. She also displays signs of being aware of the racism displayed to her heritage as a half-Beastkin; believing that people will show prejudice against her, it's for this reason that even her potential new students and apprentices aren't aware of her species, as displayed by Litchi in Chronophantasma.
However, as Celica points out, Kokonoe is a good person at heart. Without Litchi's knowledge, she became Arakune's Observer despite the risks entailed to prevent the Boundary from consuming him and is trying to figure out an effective solution for his depraved state. Also, she repeatedly shows that she will only resort to mass destruction in a worst-case scenario, preferring to minimize the casualties caused by her war against Terumi or not have any at all.

Despite being as capable on the battlefield as much as any character, Kokonoe doesn't participate in combat a great deal. Her forte comes in the form of her grand knowledge of magic and science and being the daughter of Konoe supplements this. While she has not shown any of her own creations, her prowess as a scientist is frightening, her alterations to organic and non-organic matter being second to none, even causing the normally ruthless and intimidating Hakumen to shudder at the promise of an 'upgrade' from her. Owing to her cat-like heritage, Kokonoe is known to possess cat-like reflexes, landing on all fours after falling from relatively great heights with no damage whatsoever.

Noel Vermillion is a lieutenant of the Novus Orbis Librarium who is assigned to return the AWOL Jin Kisaragi to his post, and his secretary as well. She is a playable character and the main heroine in the BlazBlue series. She is the adopted daughter of the Vermilion family, which used to be a noble family.

Noel is the definition of the "shrinking violet" archetype. She is shy, clumsy, and tends to get worked up over the smallest things. Noel is extremely self-conscious, especially regarding her notoriously flat breasts. She can be socially awkward at times, but this has actually served as an endearing trait, which earned her Tsubaki and Makoto's friendship. In spite of this, she is shown to be quite passionate and determined when motivated, and is loyal to her friends and allies.
Then there's the soft and unfettered side to her personality that shows compassion to every person and being, and how everyone is being treated. With her job out of the way, she enjoys relaxing with friends and reminiscing, nostalgically. When she cares for others' well-being, she overlooks her traits and is much more responsible. It's also shown that she is completely at a loss when she loses her guns: she starts crying and throwing a tantrum, just like a baby.

The term Lacking Lady, made by Taokaka, directed at Noel Vermillion, is one thing she can't seem to stand, though being called a boy or a man is worse. Each sets off a domino effect. The first makes her feel vulnerable and then ponder her role as a woman as she looks to other woman with bigger breasts. The second triggers a dormant volcano of emotion that is then directed at the person who makes the remark. When she is finally angry, she puts aside all shame and forlorn and builds up the confidence to abuse her title of position to call it, "Obstruction of Justice!"

Hobbies: Teatime (her favorite pastries are milk crepes and financiers)
Values: Time, Meissen teacup
Likes: Mill Crêpe
Dislikes: Boredom, bell peppers

Rachel Alucard is the current head of the Alucard family, and a very powerful being. Rachel behaves like a stereotypical upper-class individual, often looking down upon others with boredom, arrogance, snobbery and apathy, and hates her vampire urges. She is seemingly one of the most powerful characters in the series to the point where she can 'keep up' with Yuuki Terumi. Rachel can create a dimension called the Requiem which intersects with her dream world. She is always with her servants Nago and Gii and usually with her butler, Valkenhayn R. Hellsing.

Rachel is a stereotypical aristocratic heiress. She has an almost enchanting air of dignity and grace, yet is sarcastic and condescending to those she considers lower than her, always expecting them to have the highest standards of formality when conversing with her.

Perhaps her most intriguing relationship is with Ragna. Although Rachel would never admit to it, she loves Ragna for his determination and unwillingness to give up even when the odds are against him, wanting him to reach his full potential as a warrior and as a person.

Tsubaki Yayoi is Jin's childhood friend, Noel's and Makoto's former roommate from the Military Academy, and a first lieutenant of the non-official Novus Orbis Librarium's Zero Squadron. She originally appeared as a non-playable character in the story mode of BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger. However, since BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, she became a playable character. She is a member of the Yayoi family, one of the 10 families of the Duodecim.

Tsubaki is a serious, mature, and intelligent person. She has always followed her orders from the NOL and has complete faith in them (likely to honor her family name). She has always had a childhood crush on Jin, and deeply loves and cares about him. She was also good friends with Noel, Makoto and Carl Clover when they were at Military Academy. <hidden by spoiler settings>

Description

Hobbies: Playing guitar
Likes: Live music
Dislikes: Rachel Alucard

Yuuki Terumi is the true primary antagonist of Blazblue series and a former member of the Six Heroes, as well as the creator of the Azure Grimoire. He is also the founder of both the Novus Orbis Librarium and Sector Seven, often manipulating both sides to reach his goals. He became a playable character in Chrono Phantasma.

Cruel, sadistic, selfish, and insane beyond measure, Terumi delights in the suffering of others, both physically and mentally, and relished pure chaos. He would provoke and manipulate others for his own amusement, and would ruthlessly torture anyone who irritated him or got in his way. Unsurprisingly, this has earned him the contempt of almost every character in the BlazBlue universe, most notably Ragna, Kokonoe, and Nine. However, he is prone to breakdowns when things don't go his way.

Terumi is the catalyst for most of the events happening and a reason for almost every character's hatred: he turned Arakune to his current form, betrayed his old comrades, killed the sister taking care of Ragna and co., kidnapped Saya, hurt Tsubaki in more ways than one, and so on. The only people he is on "good terms" with are Relius and his vessel, Hazama. Even Izanami, who is supposed to be his boss, is willing to give his head to Ragna in order to cooperate with him.

Nirvana follows him now as his partner and weapon, acting upon his commands and protecting him.

Before becoming a doll, Ada was a kind, calm, and cheerful person. She was always very kind to her younger brother. Due to her affection, Carl idolized her, and frequently spoke highly of her to his friends at school (much to their amusement). Supposedly, she is also a bit self-conscious about her appearance. After becoming a doll, she becomes lifeless but shows unusually high sentience, protecting Carl from anything that would be a threat to him sometimes without any provocation.

Amane is a playable character who is introduced first in Chrono Phantasma. He is a young man who travels around, gathering a troupe of young and handsome men and beautiful women as he goes. He claims that to dance on the greatest stage, also the greatest battlefield where greatest warriors gather is his wish. The majority of his troupe are orphans of war from around the world, which he has adopted.

Amane is a friendly, respectful, and eccentric individual. He refers to battles as "dancing" and his gameplay style even resembles such. He is always on the lookout for possible fellow performers, asking both Ragna and Carl to join, being very persistent to have the latter do so. His subordinates greatly revere him and he in turn treats them fairly, going so far as to treat them to a surprise vacation in the 7th Hierarchical City of Kazamotsu. He often address any individual he meets as "my dear". Despite his heavily female appearance, Amane's personality is fairly masculine.
However, he can make rather careless mistakes at times and is rather slow at realizing his error, such as when he trained Bullet's squad dancing techniques for 3 days before realizing he made a mistake, having mixed up the words "troop" with "troupe". This is shown again during Noel's arcade when he mistakes her for a cross-dressing boy.

Amane has an unusual ability that allows him to form his clothing into various shapes, although whether this is the effect of an Armagus, magic or otherwise is unknown. His Drive, Spiral, utilizes his clothing into drills that increase in power with repeated use, going from Level 1 to a maximum of Level 3, at which point his Drive begins chipping away at the opponent's defenses at an alarming rate. However, using it too much can result in it becoming overheated and will become unusable until it cools down and restarts at Level 1.

Arakune is a black, blob-like creature with a white mask and a playable character. He formerly worked alongside Kokonoe, Tager and Litchi in Sector Seven. He was formerly a human named Lotte "Roy" Carmine. After an attempt to study the link between the Boundary, the Azure Grimoire, and the Black Beast and eventually managed to find a way to briefly enter the Boundary due to his inferiority complex over Kokonoe's genius, he became what he is today, now housing innumerable insects with his now-blobby body and thriving on knowledge. His horrible condition has rendered him virtually insane and lacking any reliable memory, as well as distorting his speech to near incoherency – most of his dialogue consists of gibberish, insane laughter and tortured screaming – but it seems that Litchi and Kokonoe can understand his speech.

He is very obsessed with finding the Azure Grimoire and wants it for himself, to the point of even trying to consume Ragna multiple times in the story. He had a hard time remembering Litchi when he was human, but slowly regained memories of his life, and started to remember Kokonoe and Relius, the latter being hated by Arakune.

Description

Hobbies: Arm wrestling (he has never lost in it)
Likes: Struggle
Dislikes: Sporks

Azrael is a fist-fighting pure bred soldier with superhuman strength who is a 'member' of Sector Seven. He spends most of his time moving from one battlefield to the next in search of a strong opponent. He is entirely obsessed with using his own raw power to fight, and has never used a weapon. However, due to his superhuman strength, he cannot go all out in battle; thus, he has imposed a limiter on himself called Enchant Dragunov.

During the Ikaruga War, he gained the nickname "Mad Dog" due to his uncontrollable bloodlust and attacking both friend and foe. Because of this, Kokonoe created a cell called The Dog House which would put Azrael into a cryostasis, unable to escape. Despite the casualties caused by him in the process, Kokonoe successfully managed to seal Azrael into it. Since that day, Azrael swore to one day hunt Kokonoe down and exact his revenge.

Azrael obsesses over fighting and seeks out powerful opponents to sate his bloodlust. He is confident enough in his own power to challenge even the Six Heroes and deliberately holds back in battle to make his "fun" last longer. Azrael constantly makes references to the phrase "survival of the fittest", likening himself to a predator in search of its prey and refers to battles as a "hunting ground" for him to "consume" his challengers. His lust for battle is so great, that he will resort to any means necessary in order to force an opponent to fight at their full strength. This is shown when he attempted to attack Celica in order to force Ragna to activate his Azure Grimoire, theorizing that he would do so out of rage.

However, as shown in Teach Me More, Ms. Litchi, Azrael doesn't hold well towards people picking on those weaker than themselves, being extremely against any form of bullying.

Bullet is a mercenary and a playable character in BlazBlue: Chronophantasma and Central Fiction. She is a member of a mercenary squad who appears to be against Sector Seven, due to an incident in the past involving Sector Seven which led to the deaths of her squad mates. Having been raised by mercenaries since she was young, she fights from one battlefield to another. She dislikes Amane Nishiki as he was once brought in to the squad to teach them how to fight, but he had taught them how to dance instead since he had mistaken the word squad (部隊 butai) for dance stage (舞台 butai) due to the same pronunciation in Japanese (in the English dub, Amane mistook the words "troop" and "troupe").

Likely due to her upbringing, Bullet behaves in a very militaristic and literal manner, taking an aggressive approach to almost everything. In Story Mode, she frequently becomes impatient when things aren't progressing as quickly as she expected and becomes increasingly hostile as a result, threatening a civilian when he began panicking during her attempt to interrogate him for information. During her brief travel with Bang, he noted how she was rather solitary and constantly on alert. She even has trouble smiling or laughing, only able to do so when Bang tries to humor her, only for her to laugh due to how hard he's trying instead of the joke itself. Bullet has very little experience in anything that isn't related to combat, warfare or her own personal history. She doesn't feel ashamed of her outfit even when other characters consider her costume to be very revealing, this is mainly because Bullet doesn't even know what is 'normal' attire and is loyal to wearing her military uniform (even rescuing her outfit from inside a garbage truck when Litchi stole it in a gag reel). Also Bullet admires authority figures who show strong audacity, leadership and tough love.

Bullet is also shown to be slightly racist towards Beastkin, this is shown in her Arcade battle against Valkenhayn, where she asks him if he knows where Kokonoe is due to the both of them being Beastkin. As well as this, she also remarks how she wont hold back against a non-human who smells of blood.

Carl is a young vigilante who dropped out of the Military Academy, and a playable character ever since the first game. A talented young boy and first-class vigilante, Carl has brought many criminals to justice with the aid of his mysterious doll Deus Machina: Nirvana, which he believes to be his elder sister, Ada Clover. Carl heads to the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi to retrieve the bounty for Ragna the Bloodedge. He is a former classmate of Noel, Jin, Makoto, and Tsubaki when they were in the Military Academy, but he dropped out. Carl wants to get revenge on his father Relius, for what he did to his older sister.

Carl has a very professional mindset, and dislikes being treated as a kid. He is always calm and collected, even when staring down a foe. During his days in Military Academy and when Ada was still a human, Carl would often talk about her and almost nothing else, to the point where everyone teased him about his close relationship with her.
This, however, is a side effect of Nirvana. Behind his mature facade, Carl hides an almost crippling dependency upon his sister Ada. He suffers greatly on the inside because he has practically lost his entire family to his father Relius' experiments. From the get-go, the incident with Relius caused him to believe that all adults were liars who would only use him for their own ends. With the help of Litchi, Carl learns that his beliefs are not entirely true, and he overcomes his sorrows. Carl now wants to grow up to be someone like Litchi and Bang – good people who help those in need. It is for this reason that Carl did not condemn Litchi for siding with Relius and NOL, and instead shows concern that she is in danger.

Hades Izanami is the main antagonist of the BlazBlue series, and the Imperator of the Novus Orbis Librarium. She is also a playable character in Central Fiction.
She is an immortal being, death incarnate. She is using Saya as a vessel. Her goal is to reduce everything in the universe to nothing. She appears to have a feud with Rachel Alucard.

Hades Izanami is devoid of all emotion and extremely literal-minded. She is obsessed with making the world die and will stop at nothing to accomplish her goal. The Goddess remarks that she can "feel" the strong attachment that the real Saya has towards Ragna. Throughout the game, she constantly mocks Ragna with Saya's voice in a playful manner. She is also shown to have little to no concern for her comrades, even to the point of offering Ragna Terumi's head in exchange for joining her side and eventually discarding both Terumi and Relius when they were of no further use to her. In addition, she has no true attachment to her title and announces to the entire world that she willingly hands the role of Imperator to Homura and would grant the "gift" of death to the world. She, like Relius, has a dislike of Hazama and his "playful" attitude, though it also could be out of Saya's proxy due to what Terumi did to her in the past.

Hakumen is one of the Six Heroes, and a playable character in the BlazBlue series. Hakumen is a samurai-esque warrior wielding a sword around as tall as he is and wearing a mask that completely hides his face. He is an incredibly powerful individual in the BlazBlue universe, so much so that the player is often told to proceed with caution when confronting him, and at times even advised not to do so entirely. His armor (which is the Susano'o Unit) seems to grant him limitless energy and incredible power, and his sword (a Nox Nyctores named "Ookami") appears to bear the capability to kill characters that otherwise would be immortal, or have rapid healing properties that would make them difficult or impossible to kill. This makes him an equally dangerous foe to both mortal men as well as more powerful beings. Due to the fact that Hakumen is only at 20% of his original power and yet is still considered an extremely dangerous adversary, it is possible that, should his full power be completely restored, he could very well be one of the most powerful individuals in the BlazBlue universe.

Hakumen is a very serious individual who is usually extremely focused on the task at hand and rarely shows any emotion beyond stoicism. His attitude can come off to others as prideful, stubborn, and even arrogant, occasionally getting him into issues with his comrades when he refuses to cooperate with them and tries to handle things on his own. His solitary goal is to eradicate evil wherever it hides and rarely compromises, warning his target to not take his mercy lightly when he spares them. While Hakumen is generally cold toward others, he does have respect for Jubei, Valkenhayn, and Trinity, occasionally indulging them in conversation. Although Rachel frustrates him with her commandeering attitude, he is willing to tolerate her to some extent not unlike that of Ragna. He also shows respect towards Bang as a fellow man of justice. Due to his ego, Hakumen often clashes with other members of the cast. Over time, however, he has become much more focused on the more important matters, letting fate run its course with the rest of the cast and not interfering with their affairs.

Kohaku is a servant of the Mutsuki Family and captain of the Novus Orbis Librarium, and a playable character in Central Fiction. As the servant of one of the Duodecim families, he is well acquainted with their members, such as Jin Kisaragi.
The Kohaku family is one of the Mutsuki branch families. They are trained for silent assassinations and so are rarely mentioned in historical books. As a member of this family, Hibiki was also trained in the assassination and stealth arts.

Hibiki is described as "a pretty boy with a poison tongue". His attitude towards the normally laid-back Kagura is often critical, being quick to belittle or insult him. However, in reality, this covers up his actual admiration for the Black Knight. He also has a strict personality, such as making Kagura pay for the damages he caused in the Headquarters when he fought against Arakune, and making Kagura pay the electricity bill through his personal bank account for when Kokonoe used 80% of the headquarter's electric power output to repair Iron Tager. He is also known to be an excellent cook, where even Rachel had highly praised his cooking.

One of his mottoes is: "A man with confidence shall not lose; only doubt will bring defeat".

Iron Tager is a Sector Seven soldier and loyal subordinate to Kokonoe, and one of the playable characters ever since the first game. Originally the leader of a Sector Seven assault team sent to retrieve Nirvana in the 4th Hierarchical City of Naobi, the mission was intercepted by Azrael and the man who would come to be known as Tager suffered a mortal wound during the mission. After being taken back to Sector Seven's headquarters, Tager was in critical condition, with suspicions being raised about him not surviving his injuries. He was later taken to Kokonoe's lab where she ran numerous tests on him and found that he was compatible with Demon Cells. She operated on him later on, turning Tager into what he is known as today.

Tager is a serious, mature cyborg. Well known as a fearsome mechanical juggernaut to the enemies of Sector Seven, he is feared by many, having earned him the alias "Red Devil" whereas in truth, he is very calm and calculated, only engaging in violence when necessary. He places great trust and faith in Kokonoe, and will follow orders without complaint. However, there have been some occasions where he follows his own intuition and judgement to choose what to do in a situation, especially true in the case of orders he believes to be rash, immoral or cruel.
Within Sector Seven he is known as a solid, dependable soldier, a resourceful and reliable field agent and a passionate scientist. Relationships with his colleagues, both former and current, are both professional and amicable. In Calamity Trigger, he is seen chatting pleasantly with Litchi, then a member of Sector Seven, about his new assignment as Kokonoe's field agent; Litchi mentions that Kokonoe's tasks must be gruelling to give "our Tager" cause for complaint, signifying his established status as a quiet, skilled professional.

Story-wise, Tager is infamous in the world for his fierce appearance and frightening stature, and his combat prowess matches if not exceeds his reputation; his intelligence and cyborg body only adding to his collective arsenal. Tager has stood toe-to-toe with high-threat targets such as Hakumen, Ragna, Jin and Relius, as well as his former colleagues Arakune and Litchi, two beings who stream power from the Boundary.

Jubei is one of the Six Heroes and Kokonoe's father. He is also the progenitor of the Kaka race, and Ragna's master. He battled the Black Beast alongside Hakumen, and played a part in the Ikaruga Civil War. Despite his physical appearance, he is a powerful warrior. He works to safeguard his friends in their times of need. Jubei has a relatively awkward relationship with his daughter, the reason being that he left her in the care of the NOL for a large portion of her childhood, while never visiting. After the emergence of the Black Beast in Japan, Jubei was left as the sole survivor of his clan, with his brother, Tomonori, having been killed by Terumi.

Jubei is generally agreeable, sociable and optimistic. Whenever there is a great threat, such as Ragna or the NOL around, he always keeps his laid-back attitude and stays relaxed. He makes the best of every situation, and is always trying to see the good in everything.

At times, though, Jubei shows a far more jaded and bitter side. Due to many of his friends having died, Jubei shows deep-seated guilt over his inability to do anything. As such, he has felt that he is nothing more than a weak coward who runs home with his tail between his legs while leaving good people such as Hakumen and Bloodedge to their fate. The supposed death of his lover, Nine, and having to leave their daughter Kokonoe without a family, only wound him further. Because of those losses, however, Jubei is even more driven to do what's right, and will use the power he has to do so.

She was a classmate and friend of Noel Vermillion, Tsubaki Yayoi, Makoto Nanaya and Mai Natsume during their time at the Military Academy. Though she acted like a normal student, in reality she was an undercover agent from Sector Seven that was sent by Kokonoe to obtain the Burning Red Grimoire. She recruited Mai to work for Kokonoe after they left the academy.

Kajun acts like an eccentric but refined young lady, though she also likes to tease her friends. She is also rather manipulative as she will encourage her friends to pursue actions that further her mission while concealing her true motive. Nonetheless she cares for them and will try to encourage and help them. Kajun is very intelligent and loves collecting data and analyzing events and people around her.

Konoe A. Mercury, more commonly known as Nine, is a witch, one of the Six Heroes, one of the Ten Sages and the previous wielder of Gigant: Take-Mikazuchi. The name "Nine" comes from her being the ninth member of the Mage's Guild's Ten Sages. Celica A. Mercury is her sister, Shuuichirou Ayatsuki was her father, and her mother is deceased. She is the lover of Jubei of the Six Heroes, and one herself, as well as the mother of Kokonoe. She was also the first person to achieve the rank of the Ten Sages while still being a student.

Konoe is a person who likes to do things her own way, a trait shared by her daughter. She is a kind-hearted individual who cares about her friends, especially her younger sister Celica, and can't say no to anything she asks from her. Although she seems to have a mature and serious personality, she can be somewhat impulsive and violent when angered, as shown when she attempted to use a fire spell on Bloodedge for annoying her. She was this way even with her lover, Jubei, before falling in love with him as well as rash, headstrong and independent. Unlike her daughter who is a whiz with science, Konoe had an ability, charm and prowess with the magical arts. Being the best in her field and from her expertise and leadership, it's easy to see why she responds to others the way she had, and these would psychologically determine her to be right-brained and eccentric, if not at least eclectic. She also has a poor sense of direction similar to her sister.

For a time, she worked with Tager and Kokonoe in Sector Seven, until an incident, where a man by the name of Lotte Carmine, who seemed to hold much importance to Litchi, became Arakune. The next 2 years she spends on searching for Arakune, until she finally finds him throughout the course of Calamity Trigger.

Litchi, at first glance, can be perceived as the perfect woman – courteous, sexy, and intelligent. Being a doctor and former scientist, she is a kind person who is willing to help those in need. She is good friends with the Kaka Clan, acting as their teacher both mentally and, in Taokaka's case, physically. She has a one-sided, rather awkward relationship with Bang: Litchi likes him as a friend, while Bang is infatuated with her, but does not know how to express his love.

In her heart, however, Litchi hides a deep guilt for not being able to help her colleague Lotte, who became the being known as Arakune. In secret, she has searched for a way to cure him through any means necessary, and thus, often annoys Kokonoe.

Mai Natsume is the protagonist of the Remix Heart and the Variable Heart manga as well as the two Remix Heart Gaiden side-stories in Chrono Phantasma Extend and is a playable character in Central Fiction. She was a classmate and friend of Noel Vermillion, Tsubaki Yayoi, Makoto Nanaya and Kajun Faycott during their time at the Military Academy. After leaving the academy she worked at Sector Seven under Kokonoe. Mai is kind, positive, polite and cares for her friends more than anything.

Mai's true name is Mai Hazuki and is the heir of the Hazuki Family, one of the twelve noble families that govern the world. Shortly prior to the events of Remix Heart, the Nameless Grimoire inadvertently fused with her body and transformed Mai from a boy into a girl. She was not able to reverse the transformation and her father sent her away to the Torifune Military Academy under an alias. While Mai initially wanted to return to her previous form, her mind also gradually changed and she eventually came to accept her new form and now considers herself a woman.

Being the vessel of the Nameless Grimoire grants Mai the ability to read the memories or thoughts of people or obtain information about objects by tasting them. Her body later got transformed into The Blank Grimoire, which can utilize whatever power gets inscribed within it. Mai is skilled in martial arts and assassination techniques, though she initially prefered to fight with a sword and a parrying dagger. In Variable Heart she obtained a spear that is a Legacy Weapon called Gallia Sphyra: Outseal and started using that instead.

Makoto is a playable character starting from Continuum Shift II. She is a former classmate of Tsubaki, Noel, Mai and Kajun as well as a schoolmate of Carl and Jin from the Military Academy, where she went under the name "Nanaya" until befriending and opening up to Tsubaki and Noel.

She is a squirrel-type beastkin and is considerably hyperactive with a short attention span, though she has proven to be rather cunning when she needs to be. She is outgoing and adventurous. She has a few complexes about her race, but nonetheless, she acknowledges who she is and is proud of it. In BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, Makoto works for the Novus Orbis Librarium Intelligence Department with Hazama but is actually a spy for Sector Seven. In the True Ending, she defects from the NOL after finding out what happened and leaves with Noel and Iron Tager.

Makoto is a silly, friendly, generally whimsical and energetic beastkin. She also appears to be somewhat scatter-brained, though this trait belies her true aptitude as an Intelligence operative and spy for Sector Seven. She is one of Noel's best friends, though unlike Tsubaki, she harbors no jealousy towards her. She cares deeply for her friends and cannot stand when they fight each other. When she was in Military Academy, she used to be cruel, mean, selfish, and hated humans, but then had a change of heart by Tsubaki's words when she confronted her fellow female classmates who were picking on her. When she, Tsubaki, and Noel were trapped in the lower levels of Kagutsuchi, it was revealed that she just wanted to be accepted for who she is. Makoto also has a serious side when it comes to her friends, and has even confronted Hazama when she discovers what he did to Noel.

Luna is a rude young girl who hates women with big breasts; Sena is a polite young boy who is always trying to calm down Luna; and Trinity is the spirit of one of the Six Heroes. This Nox Nyctores' full name is Arma Reboare: Muchourin, a staff which has the power to incarnate matter.

Platinum normally prefers to avoid violence and lives in the ruins of 5th Hierarchical City of Ibukido, but came to the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi by request of Jubei in order to awaken Bang's Phoenix: Rettenjou. Platinum is seen watching over Ragna the Bloodedge, who is with Jubei all the time. Luna is very fond of Jubei, but harbors a deep hatred towards Ragna, most likely due to his connection with Jubei. Finally, Luna gets greatly irritated when Bang tells her that he will do anything to seduce Litchi, claiming that he is only interested by her breasts.

Dislikes: Disorganized bookshelves

Relius is Carl Clover and Ada Clover's father, and Ignis Clover's husband. He is a colonel in the Engineering Department for the Novus Orbis Librarium. He's also one of the antagonists along Hazama, and became a playable character in Continuum Shift Extend.

Relius was originally a researcher who studied the Boundary alongside Shuuichirou Ayatsuki, Celica and Nine's father. They were at a dead end until Terumi showed up, offering them a vast amount of information that allowed their research to progress. During an experiment however, they unknowingly unleashed the Black Beast and Relius was swallowed into the Cauldron. Relius somehow survived, and was sent forward 80 years into the future, to the year 2179. In the process, he lost his memory, but gradually started to regain it over the years, stating that the feeling was as exhilarating as placing books back on shelves (a personal pastime of his). After reuniting with Terumi, he continued working with him in secret, and during the timeskip to the present day meets and marries Ignis, which in turn leads to the birth of Carl and Ada.

Relius is the twisted, evil mirror image of his son Carl. While he is calculating and courteous like his son, he is cold and utterly devoid of empathy. His only true care in the world is his research. Relius is even willing to go so far as to kill gods for the sake of science – a curiosity which Terumi just so happened to pique. Carl, his son, hates him for taking Ada and his mother away. Carl spends a majority of his travels in pursuit of Relius. However, Relius does not even hesitate to attack his own son when confronted by him.

Description

Hobbies: Training, thinking of names for his special moves
Values: Justice, his 55-inch nail
Likes: Hot springs
Dislikes: Evil

Bang Shishigami is a ninja from Ikaruga, and a playable character ever since the first game. He is the wielder of the Phoenix: Rettenjou, a giant 55-inch nail. After losing his home in the Ikaruga Civil War and his master Tenjou at the hands of Jin Kisaragi, Bang and his followers began living in Kagutsuchi waiting for the right moment to strike back at Jin and the NOL. There, he declares himself a hero of love and justice, and dedicates himself to exterminating evil and overturning injustice wherever he goes. Over time, Tenjou's teaching prevailed over him, and Bang develops a strict 'no-kill' policy, which means he would never stoop so low as to kill his enemies, even Jin, despite how much he hates him.
He is overzealous in every way, subtlety not usually at the forefront of his mind. However, his fiery spirit and will have earned him the respect of a few characters, most notably Hakumen. His first and foremost duty is to protect the citizens of Ikaruga, which was the reason why he also wants Ragna's bounty: to rebuild the glory of Ikaruga.

Bang can be quite over-exuberant, and he is prone to speeches and tangents as well as making dramatic entrances. He has a romantic fascination with Litchi, always willing to go charging in headlong if he sees someone making her upset. He is a man with great pride in his home and tolerates no ill words towards it or his master. Though many members of the cast ridicule him and think of him as annoying, he protects those he cares about (such as Carl and Tao) with his life, and has a heart of gold. He thinks of himself as the "Hero of Justice", and the one to punish all evil doers. Bang, however, possesses a lot of standards that display quite a bit of wisdom.

A trait that he shares with Litchi is his genuine love for children; he would do everything to protect them, and the sight of them being hurt badly and for no reason are one of the things that would tempt him to consider breaking his 'no-kill' policy. However, he also has a bad habit of instantly calling some of the children he saw as 'his apprentice'. Carl has begun to take that consideration well and nicely, but Platinum is highly annoyed at this treatment.

Taokaka is a respected warrior of the Kaka clan, who is attempting to apprehend Ragna the Bloodedge and use the bounty to secure a new home-land for the Kaka, and is a playable character ever since Calamity Trigger. A resident of the Kaka Village and member of the Kaka Tribe, Taokaka is a catgirl, wearing a large coat that obscures her face, only exposing red eyes and a row of sharp teeth; whether or not this is her true face is still a mystery. She wants to get back the sky above her village, which was sealed off. She does not seem to refer to anyone other than herself by name and creates nicknames for people she meets. She is unable to recognize that Ragna, the "good guy", and "Rawgnya", the criminal, are the same person, though there are times she seems to know but does not care.

Taokaka is the personification of innocence in the BlazBlue world. She is a happy-go-lucky catgirl who only wishes the best for her friends and family. Her only desire is to protect those she holds dear to her heart, or who offer her food (in her mind anyone who offers her food is a good person).
Unfortunately, she is also the least intelligent character in BlazBlue. Like most cats, Taokaka's daily routine consists of eating and sleeping, and she can, and often will, forget anything she does or is told to do within three steps or seconds. Of course, it goes without saying that she is not totally dumb. Taokaka often gives nicknames to those she meets so she can try to easily remember them later. She does actually know who they are, but prefers the nickname routine.

Of course, much of her simple-minded traits can be compared to how a cat's mindset actually works, especially when it comes to how fascinated by things she can be (such as a pair of breasts) or how her mind tends to seemingly drift away from more serious things.

In the fourth-wall breaking mini-series, Teach Me, Miss Litchi! (which is not canon), Taokaka is studying under Litchi in order to become a great vigilante.

Description

Trinity Glassfille was a member of the Six Heroes, and the true form of Platinum the Trinity who had her soul sealed within the Nox Nyctores, Arma Reboare: Muchourin.

Trinity is a very kind, cheerful and easygoing young woman. She was a good friend of Konoe A. Mercury, and was also quite close to Kazuma Kuvaru. She was shown to be affectionate towards him. However, she is strict when it comes to manners, and can be very frightening when angry. When Celica and Konoe inadvertently spilt tea over her, her gaze alone rendered them so scared that they ceased the quarrel, regardless of Trinity's usual smile.

After Terumi's betrayal, Trinity harbored immense guilt for Konoe's death and the repercussions that followed soon after to the point of being brought to tears while apologizing to Celica for what she had done.

Valkenhayn R. Hellsing is Rachel's elderly butler and trusted adviser who has served the Alucard family line for generations, as well as one of the Six Heroes. He is a playable character starting with Continuum Shift II. Valkenhayn has been the butler to the Alucard family of vampires for a great deal of years and was Rachel's father's, Clavis Alucard's butler before his death.

He possesses a sharp wit and is concerned for Rachel's well-being. Valkenhayn seems to be worried about Rachel associating with things below her class (particularly Ragna the Bloodedge, although others might apply), but he usually acts in a sophisticated and gentlemanly manner. Judging from comments frequently dropped by Rachel, he seems to have once been a vigilante himself. He has shown a savage temper on occasion, mainly seen during battle. During Continuum Shift he lost his temper after Hazama insulted Rachel, his voice deepened and his teeth sharpened into fangs.

Valkenhayn is also a unique Beastkin, being the only one of his kind, thus far, who is able to freely switch from being in a human form to a wolf form. As well as this, Valkenhayn is extremely unique in the fact that he exists outside of the logic, being the only living being outside of it. Although the reasons for it are unspecified, it's implied that the reason behind it is that Valkenhayn was produced via Sorcery, which is, in a sense, above Magic and therefore does not obey the rules of being within the logic.

Λ-No.11- is an imitation Murakumo Unit found, experimented on and controlled by Kokonoe. She is a playable character in BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, Chronophantasma Extend and Central Fiction. Lambda was originally created by Relius Clover for the purpose of serving as a test subject for the experiments of the NOL's scientists. Lambda died during the painful experimentation and was disposed of, deemed a failure. She was later retrieved from Ibukido by Iron Tager and revived by Kokonoe. Kokonoe completely erased her memory, and as a result, Λ-No.11- is only interested in carrying out Kokonoe's orders.

At the beginning of her story in Continuum Shift which showed her past where she was in the middle of being experimented by scientists, Lambda was full of emotion and seemed to act slightly similar to Noel in some aspects. However, because her desperate pleas for help could not be heard, and because the scientists had taken their experiment on her to the extreme, Lambda had unfortunately died from the experiment. <hidden by spoiler settings>

ν-No.13- is a Murakumo Unit who was sealed in the Sheol Gate. She is a playable character in Calamity Trigger, Chronophantasma and Central Fiction. She appears in Continuum Shift as Λ-No.11-'s Unlimited form. She was programmed to terminate anyone she deems as hostile subjects that came near the Gate. ν-No.13- is also shown to have a split personality, split between an emotionless girl when around others, and a yandere when around Ragna the Bloodedge, though this may be how she was programmed to act. ν-No.13- wants to absorb Ragna and have him join her in destroying the world, because she, too, possesses a piece of the Azure Grimoire. When Ragna refuses to join her, she decides to take him by force.

Being a prime field device, Nu's emotions were sealed away, becoming little more than an emotionless machine who kills anyone that obstructs her programming or whom she determines to be hostile. When around Ragna the Bloodedge, however, her personality changes to that of a yandere who is absolutely infatuated with him. In her mind, Nu must have Ragna to herself, and anyone who gets in the way of her love must die. At heart, however, Nu is a sad and lonely girl who has endured years of nightmarish torture, clinging to her memories of Ragna to give her hope. It is for this reason that she hates humans, and wants to merge with Ragna to form the Black Beast.

Mei Amanohokosaka is one of the characters in XBlaze – Code: Embryo and a descendant of the Azure Shrine Maiden, protecting the Wadatsumi area for generations to prevent the resurrection of the Black Beast. Her parents were present at the Wadatsumi Mass Vanish Incident, where her mother disappeared and her father had his soul drained but his body was still left intact. Mei has a huge distrust and hate for the Magic Guild after they attempted to bring down the Amanohokosaka family by making them lose money and trust.

Personality-wise, Mei is hostile to all she meets. She is extremely hostile towards Kuon due to her being from the Magic Guild. However, this usual hostility that is presented to everyone can usually be avoided by presenting excellent manners, and treating Mei as a pampered princess. Yet, despite this hostility, she and Kuon overcome their differences bonding over their tragedies of having lost a parent. The both of them argue constantly, but they remain firm friends despite this. Like many a teenager, Mei frequently blogs, and has been known to use text speech when updating her TOi; on top of this, she is an avid anime watcher, and is critical of what others watch, suggesting that Kuon watches 'B-tier slice-of-life crap'. Underneath her hypercritical attitude, Mei is secretly quite caring of those around her, especially with family - effectively surrendering her freedom to the whims of the Mitsurugi Agency just so her family could live on. When angered, Mei has been known to swear in a colorful manner.

Arakune when he was still a human and a researcher at Sector Seven. His dialogue between many characters, as well as his Arcade Mode ending, suggest that it was the power and knowledge he obtained from the Boundary that gradually turned him into what he is, and notably he does not seem to have noticed that he is changed, and to him, his bizarre speech is completely normal. He seems to not understand why others cannot understand him, creating a crude mask for himself thinking it would allow others to understand what he is saying.

As he wanted to observe the Abyss of the Azure, he followed a theory which brought him closest to the truth that he was seeking. That is why he attempted to refine himself into the Azure Grimoire. It is shown that he fused himself with some seithr from the Boundary, which then turned his mind upside down and started going insane, not to mention forgetting the people close to him. Because of this, he also started creating reports only about the Azure - which were all rejected by Kokonoe.

Description

Torakaka is a member of the Kaka clan and the mentor of Taokaka. She is also a former village guardian, and is very knowledgeable about the current situation, as she is able to (seemingly) recognize Litchi being seduced by the Azure Grimoire in an injured Ragna's possession and stop her from acting on the impulse. Contrary to how Torakaka looks, she speaks quite dignifiedly and sparingly uses the feline verbal tic Taokaka has. Tager also comments on how much more clever she is than the rest of the Kaka clan.

Torakaka seems to be mature, intelligent, and a kind person. She cares for Taokaka, and helps her when she was a kitten by her hopes that she will become a better guardian to protect the Kaka Village.
