Description

It's been six years since a massive earthquake leveled the city of Shibuya. Now, in October 2015, while researching a number of recent murders, Takuru Miyashiro realizes a horrible truth. These murders are the return of a series of killings that plunged Shibuya into terror six years ago. And at the same time, people called gigalomaniacs, with the powers to make their delusions real, are beginning to awaken.

<report>I went into this game confident that it would not come close to Steins;Gate. I was surprised to find out how wrong I was. The protagonist is definitely the highlight of the novel, his character develops throughout the story in an incredibly natural and subtle way making him feel realistic and compelling.

Chaos;Child does suffer from many problems such as bad and forgettable side routes, with the exception of Nono, and some underdeveloped characters. Despite this it is an incredible character journey and murder mystery that connected with me in an extremely personal way.

<report>Whatever you do, DO NOT READ CHAOS;CHILD BEFORE CHAOS;HEAD.

Chaos;Child is a SEQUEL to Chaos;Head.

Chaos;Child is a fantastic visual novel and by far my favourite among those I've already played. I would recommend it to anybody. That being said, although it is often advertised as a standalone story, this is far from true. It was mainly marketed as standalone for the sake of profitability and C;H's licensing issues. Besides spoiling C;H, as a THEMATIC sequel, C;C is not just narratively reliant on C;H but also (and more so) thematically reliant on it. If you strip a serious story like C;C of its thematic development, it's mediocre.

Thus to maximize enjoyment, please read C;H first.

I also recommend reading Steins;Gate and Robotics;Notes beforehand but they're not necessary. Only C;H is.

<report>All-round pretty good. The main story will leave you with quite a few questions which are resolved in the true ending.
This is a story where things can't be easily taken back or undone and the ending is, while very satisfying and probably the best ending possible, leaves me in despair! I feel the characters could've had a happy ending if some things played out differently. Worth a read, but only if you can stand the feels. I've been in despair about this for a week.
The only thing is that the true ending hinges on a massive reveal which can feel somewhat forced. But if you've played Chaos;Head then instead of feeling 'forced' it should follow naturally, to an extent. If you accept the logic, then the questions you have should work out logically as well. It's a very debatable thing though.

<report>Chaos child is an amazing entry to the science adventure series that puts a lot of focus on horror. It does this quite well through the use of amazing sound design and imagery. Additionally, the common route and true route were well written, keeping you at the tip of your seat throughout (though some of the side routes lacked the quality of the main and true routes).

<report>An engaging murder mystery set in modern day Shibuya which starts with seemingly random brutal killings, but soon shifts to other genres. The characters are all interesting, including the main character, an elitist hipster. You can tell the devs didn't cheap out on the budget, with pretty good visuals as well as soundtrack. It requires multiple playthroughs to get to the side routes, which add quite a bit of content, and it features delusion triggers (just like Chaos;Head)
It is highly recommended, but not necessary, to read Chaos;head first.

<report>This game feels like a do-over of Chaos;Head. So many details are just similar enough that they allude to C;H, but are different enough that I didn't feel like it was going to play out exactly the same.

These differences are all for the better. The cast is more connected to each other, the tone is less erratic, and the plot doesn't feel like it's happening by random chance. Chaos;Child's narrative develops organically, and gives you reason to grow paranoid of people around you, in contrast to C;H's storytelling method of straight-up TELLING you that you're paranoid.

Scenes with Mio were torturous due to her being a huge bitch. I'm not convinced that the Delusion mechanic adds any value to the game - same with the lengthy, boring character routes. Still, it's a solid read. Recommended.

<report>It is impressive. When the additional routes are have the same quality as the first and true route it is just amazing. I like the visual novel so much. Characters are really likeable. Chaos; head is also good but they did a great job to increase the quality and in the end we got chaos; child. It is awesome. 8,5/10

<report>All you need to know about this vn is the fact that it's own story that works more like a murder mystery novel with an emphasis on psychological horror, it's world and characters. And takes place in the same universe as steins;gate. Otherwise its a separate game entirely. it's set in shibuya, not akihabara.

This vn, this story, even the characters are nearly on the same level as the original stein;gate, imo - which btw i consider one of the best vns on the market. Finally do not spoil yourself with the horrible anime c;c had!

<report>While some plot elements were dragged down by their chaos;head heritage, the overall experience and the true ending, in particular, were so strong that none of this game's flaws even mattered anymore. I was on the edge of my seat, balls to the walls during my entire time with this game. The music was amazing; the routes were each very memorable, and the mystery/horror/thriller aspect was masterfully done. It all felt like a fever dream at times, and a very fucked up one at that. But hey, that's why I play video games: to make me feel something. Chaos;child does that spectacularly - beyond just the pure shock factor at certain moments, it also told a story that was quite moving to me, one that I will not forget anytime soon.

<report>While it doesn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessor, Chaos;Child is a strong visual novel in its own right–one that builds on and evolves what came before in interesting ways. It’s a shame this release is so lacking in polish, but Chaos;Child’s poignant thematic heart still shines through.

<report>I have ambivalent feeling toward this visual novel.

On one hand, chaos;child has solid game production value. The sound effects set up the mood well. Voice acting and artwork are great, as one would normally expect out of 5pb. This work has some of the most amazing concepts ingrained deep into the plot, and they are designed for hardcore ACG fans. The whole game feels like a product of otaku's wildest imagination, except that it is then organized into a fairly well-written story. Well, the wild imagination might just be the point here, given the nature of this story. All in all, this is a non-everyday-normal type of plot that actually fits decently together without too many holes.

<report>Overall, Chaos Child is an "Ok" visual novel.
The opening of the story has a suspenseful atmosphere that will attract readers to continue with the story, and the atmosphere is gradually building up throughout the whole vn. I really enjoyed the world of CC halfway through the story. However, the problems of the vn start showing up afterwards. Basically, the biggest problem is the endings. All characters ending(except Nono route) are pretty bad. My feeling after finishing them is "wtf did I just read" because I really have no clue about wtf I just read. They are all illogical and absurd, and basically, most of them have zero contribution to unfolding the mystery of the story.
And the true... Read more »

<report>This is going to be a pretty long review, so if you are not into walls of text scroll down to conclusion for a tldr.

There's a lot I want to say about Chaos Child, for me personally it had a lot of qualities that could have made it a masterpiece but unfortunately this did not happen because of some obvious mistakes that could have been avoided. I will go over what I liked the most first, then the things I disliked.

I tried my best to make this spoiler free, if anything I wrote comes too close please let me know in the comments.

<report>Chaos;Child is an exercise in seeing how far a writer can indulge in their excesses without an editor at the helm, burying what might be otherwise an interesting story under an extraordinary amount of superfluous inclusions.

Any tension built up in the game's dramatic scenes is squandered on prolonged and dull sequences in which absolutely nothing of consequence happens. Whenever something does progress the story it is dropped in favor of another side plot, inane slice of life or fan service scene. Even during story progression, the momentum is halted by the constant internal monologue of the protagonist.

The game's central gameplay mechanic, the 'delusion trigger' serves as a microcosm... Read more »

<report>Quite possibly my single favorite story of all time. is there very obvious flaws? yes. is that the case with almost every visual novel? yes. Past that is the most incredibly written narrative I have ever come across. While I'm sure a lot of it comes down to personal bias as the story resonates with me to a high degree, The plot, character dynamics, and themes are absolutely one of a kind. I think this is more of a hit or miss type VN, but if it hits it will hit you hard. Next section will contain spoilers. This will be a sort of personal analysis on the game. This game covers the topics of teens who grow up with computer access, specifically access to the internet, and how it can heavily... Read more »

<report>Chaos;Child is a basically perfect mix of murder mystery, psychological drama, fun Sci-fi magic, and likable characters. I was honestly floored that outside maybe the first several hours, the visual novel was consistently quite interesting or entertaining.

Country to popular belief from the hardcore Sci;Adv fanboys, you do NOT need to read other Science;Adventure visual novels first. In fact, I think Chaos;Child is one of the better ones to start off with since it has a good balance of mixing slice of Life character development as well as introducing mystery plot elements. It can help you find out if you like the ideas of Sci;Adv before going into others. But if you’re sure you wanna read... Read more »
