Description

After their mother passes away, Kogasaka You and his younger sister, Chinami, pack up and move out of the city back to their hometown of Hibarigasaki to live with their aunt Shino. Before making the move to the city, You spent almost every single day after school playing with a girl up at the town observation lookout; she was You's first true friend. And when she learns of You’s upcoming relocation to the city she becomes very upset…so much so that she makes him promise to her that one day he must return to Hibarigasaki to marry her. And with a final departure she kisses You on the forehead.

Years later, upon returning to Hibarigasaki, You comes across a now abandoned, fenced-off observatory lookout. It is at this lookout where he encounters a mysterious scythe-wielding girl named Mare who looks strangely like his childhood friend from years past. But as You's life back in his hometown progresses, he is able to make new friends both in the astronomy club at school and while working at a local restaurant, all while still attempting to seek out his childhood friend. Intrigued, he continues to visit with this mysterious girl at the lookout, but who is she really, and will he ever be able to find his childhood friend and make good on his promise?

<report>A bit frustrating, too many details that seems to only be there to make the story longer, but at the same time the outcome it's predictable. Same with comedy, too much recycling of jokes. The point is not to repeat the same thing every time to make the joke funnier.

But heroines are very likable and CGs too. But the story feels messy, sometimes the author decides to start explaining the reason for a certain situation, but other times coherence doesn't matter at all. The game could have been much better if it had been shorter. It's great that a story is not rushed, but lengthen them just because you want it to be long, it takes a lot of the shine off.

I wouldn't recommend it but I don't think it's a terrible VN either. The subject of astronomy it's always a little entertaining for me.

<report>Hoshizora no Memoria was my first real moege, and I think it was a great introduction to the genre. The characters are pretty standard versions of their respective tropes; there's a sweet childhood friend, a tsundere class rep, a klutzy imouto... The characters may not sound original, but the way they interact and their chemistry with the protagonist is very enjoyable.
I really love the art, the backgrounds are well done and the character sprites are stylized in a way that I rarely see in visual novels. The soundtrack is good but doesn't stand out.
Sometimes the overarching plot gets weighed down by some pseudoscientific supernatural stuff, but it never drags on too long, and it always leaves room in the spotlight for the characters and relationships that make the story great.

<report>The story unfolds in quite a fantastic way. The pacing is slow, but (practically) every scene is enjoyable and I found myself drawn in (except when Chinami is involved). Although the game released in 2009, it feels like a game that came out in 2003, which is sort of a positive from a nostalgic point of view.

Problem is, Chinami exists. Jokes are repeated multiple times, sometimes counted in the dozens, to the point where the horse is beaten to a fine paste. Half of the characters are extremely stubborn. A character repeating "you should die" when someone's just trying to help or "you can't question me but I'm going to question you" over and over again gets quite annoying. This seems to be done to delay story/plot reveals/twists, which makes every route feel impactful, but drawn out.

<report>After playing through multiple times, I still find the story to be well written and captivating - the characters to have detailed and compelling backstories. Even the H-scenes were (for the most-part) tasteful and didn't detract from the plot; the only H-scenes that seem shoehorned into the story for the fan service are Mare's, but most people are probably uncomfortable with those anyway.

<report>First of all, let me just say that the soundtrack in this VN is absolutely fantastic. The artwork is pretty great too (i played the HD version). The story is nice, but confusing at times. Its got a lot of emotional moments too. I played without an h patch. I really enjoyed reading this vn.
However, i do have a complaint. For me, this vn didn't have enough slice of life. I found it hard to get attached to any of the characters other than Chinami, which caused the emotional moments in this vn to not be as emotional as they should have been to me. I also think the placements of the H scenes (i didnt have them, but its obvious where they are) are of poor taste, to say the least.

<report>Been wanting to re-review this since the HD edition got published. This was one of, if not THE first high-budget moege I read back when it was a fantranslation and I had mostly positive views on it.

The main positive about Hoshimemo is the overall presentation, especially with the HD makeover. Everything just looks bright and crisp from the sprites, backgrounds, and CGs. I'm surprised something looked this good back in 2010. The music is also excellent have a mix of atmospheric, emotional, chill, and tense when the scene called for it.

The drama for the most part is actually pretty good for a moege. It gets kinda nakige-ish at times but still mostly maintains a light-hearted romantic feel... Read more »

<report>TLDR for people who want quick opinion; I really enjoyed this game. I love the 2000s VN vibes it has (the interface, low res etc), so far of all the VNs I've played this is the best soundtrack like actually godly. Common route was pretty engaging, all of the routes are quite good, and I followed the order of the guide posted on steam here. (BTW I strongly recommend against playing R-18 patch, the H-scenes are horribly timed and are clearly just in there for fan service like most older VN)

I think the best route is probably Komomo's, it really expanded on the lore of the world, and the mystery involved was good with an unexpected plot twist, and she becomes so cute once she enters dere-mode... Read more »
