Description

There were just five of us when we first started developing rockets. We didn't have enough money, equipment, or knowledge. Everyone told us we would fail, but I...

We... didn't give up. None of us.

We lived on Amanoshima, an island far to the south of mainland Japan and the location of a large aerospace program. Our school, Amanoshima Academy, had a prestigious aerospace curriculum and students from all over the nation attended it, eyes set on being a part of the next generation of rocket scientists.

"Hey. Want to make rockets with us?"

That was why I was so surprised when asked me to join her. I was enrolled in the normal curriculum, not aerospace, and nobody ever doubted the fact that I was an idiot. But when I looked into her eyes, I saw how sincere she was... and it shook me.

Finally, I decided to join the small rocket club she was the president of: Byakko.

"You won't make rockets at Byakko."

The one who told me that was Reimei Kaho, vice-president of the largest and most illustrious rocket club of the many at our school: the ARC. She had come to notify us that we had been dissolved.

There was only one way to stave off our own abolition. We had to win a rocket competition before the beginning of the second term. There were five of us. Arisa. Me.

"We can make rockets at Byakko too."

Ibuki Nazuna, who loved rockets like nobody else.

"I want to be in your club."

Michibiki Honoka, my childhood friend who loved to play tricks on others.

And, finally, Kaho, who had made so much trouble for us initially. Together we tackled rocket science.

We had to win a competition if we wanted our club to endure. And, even more than that, we wanted to launch a rocket that our own hands had built and see it soar toward space.

The Karman line: 100km of altitude.

Higher than the clear sky.

We worked hard and chased our dreams to the edge of space.

<report>With VNs like this where I know the final route won't matter much I choose to just focus on characters I'm interested in and that couldn't have been a better choice. I only really did the Kaho route but character interactions before the routes branch off are really entertaining as well - Nazuna being a standout for me in terms of comedy, any interactions with the friend group feels like dumbshit my friends would say to each other.

Kaho's route is just very cute but does have some really impactful moments, anything that happens in the playground is usually good character building. The stuff with rocket science was easy to follow. H-Scenes were enjoyable. Voice acting was great.

Music was also great, OP is catchy soundtracks fit the scenes and the main ED Over the Skyblue is perfection

<report>Overall, this was a game that I found quite enjoyable, and I thought was especially interesting because it's such an uneven work. There are parts of it that are really genuinely excellent and capture everything I love about its genre, but also parts that are really not that great and meaningfully diminish its quality as a whole.

One of the biggest appeals of this text is the "design story" that it is centered around, and I absolutely adore this theme - one where there's a really tangible "goal" and the narrative centers around a group of like-minded people all coming together and striving towards this improbably lofty ambition. It's a great device that allows for some really kinetic... Read more »

<report>As a VN that relies heavily in rocket engineering, it's pretty fun to see the process involving the rocket project as well as how an underground club has to organize itself to make such a big project without the proper funds or how an island focused on rocket engineering is not all sunshine and rainbows. Unfortunately those interesting tidbits are muddled by absolutely awful comedy, mainly because of how dumb the protagonist is. The fact that the routes are all pretty samey doesn't help things either. I guess i can recommend it if you have really high tolerance to bad romantic comedy, because the actual project-related stuff is nice to sit through. Almost decent VN.

<report>tl;dr: A VN with an interesting cast of characters that goes into a decent amount of detail on launching rockets and manages to make rockets themselves quite interesting.

Farther than the Blue Sky is a visual novel that's mostly a design story centered around rockets. It starts off with a common route that sets up the rocket club, Byakko, that the protagonist and the four heroines (Arisa, Natsu, Honoka, and Kaho) are in and then branches based on decisions made by the player into four separate routes for each of the heroines. Byakko is entering a rocket related competition known as Four Sections with each of the four heroine participating in a separate event, and the protagonist assisting... Read more »

<report>I completed this a couple months back, but am just getting around to writing a review for it. It's hard to find an example of a truly unique narrative idea in a visual novel, much less an adult one. Rocket science was not something I would have imagined, but why not? "Farther Than the Blue Sky" (given English title) was a unique experience to say the least. When I first saw the giant glossary, I wasn't quite sure what I was getting into, but I'm glad I played it.

Things are a bit slapstick throughout, with some sarcasm and other tropes thrown in, mostly with the main character as the target. It's not bothersome though. The main character is not an overly serious protagonist, but he's a... Read more »

<report>ahh yes Chuablesoft. I've only played this vn and the other translated one (sugar+spice3) and I have a personal beef with this company. I'll be describing both vns so better wrap this in spoilers now.

this company is good in selling their heroines pretty well. standard moe and stuff. but at the middle of the heroine route they will introduce a permanent disability or disease to the characters. it could be the heroine or the MC or both. the point is, they use this as a plot device to move the story to dramatic levels. its a cheap ass move but it works. accidents are cheap but it happens when it happen. so is diseases. that's the very tl;dr version of both the vns.

so why is this a personal
