Description

Just as Mimori Ichirou, a non-commissioned officer serving as a Zero fighter pilot during the Pacific War, was about to launch a kamikaze attack against an enemy warship, he instead found himself crash-landing in the middle of an unfamiliar desert. However, before he could perish from aimlessly wandering the sand-covered wastes, he was saved by a princess capable of transforming into a dragon.

As a stranger in an even stranger land with no directions to guide him, Ichirou – driven by a promise once made – nonetheless resolved himself to find his way back home to Japan, even if all that awaited him was certain death.

<report>I love to read so many dumbos saying this game is heavy on JP nationalism when every route shows the protag spitting on patriotism, honor and more. Yes, it could be more critical on JP's role in WWII but I think there are enough moments where many characters state how military and nationalism are dumb things or how everyone is fighting for their loved ones most than anything.

Also Reah sucks. Ch3 from the common route was so cringe I couldn't believe I was reading the same VN as before. Shove upon your ass the sob story about your stupid loli copied from Nisemonogatari, Frontwing.

I wouldn't deny this VN feels a bit "weird" for western audiences, but from here to say it is alt-right propaganda there is a whole world of lies and bad faith.

<report>I'm really really on the verge of dropping this. I'm still just at chapter 1 and damn this vn is very long.

but why drop you ask? easy. too much infodump and the scenes jump from one to another and its rather hard to keep track. making the experience a chore to finish. not fun to finish. a chore to finish. I think I've been going on and off with this VN for 20+ times and I'm still on chapter 1.

the other reviews are also saying the routes way later in the game feels like they're rushing to meet a deadline or something. well that's one way to kill the hype even further eh?

<report>I'm not going to touch on the localization issues all that much because you've probably already heard a thousand different people gripe about it. MC goes full Steve Irwin, the dogs are a bunch of teenage frat boys, and the dwarves are their own Bri'ish colony. I hated it at all first, but somehow found it tolerable eventually and even funny at certain points.

The common route for me was honestly the highlight of this game and may set your expectations high for the routes themselves. Giving it 4 separate chapters to introduce each major tribe in the game and the 384th squadron of cuties, it goes above and beyond to flesh out most of the major recurring characters and build the world around... <report>Better than Grisaia from a setting point, which isn't that hard to do.

Hatsumira features a fantasy isekai setting and was made during a time the market still wasn't absolutely oversaturated by the genre. This piece could be seen as Frontwing's attempt to scout out new areas to branch out to but seeing now that Grisaia has so many offshoots and there are eight phantom trigger games we can clearly see how that turned out. This is a piece from a bygone era where the studio had not yet degenerated into a full blown cash grab operation beating its one successful dead horse.

The fact that all of the character sprites are so eerily reminescent of the Grisaia ones (Yukikaze, Meltyna, Ailah are... Read more »

<report>A bit long for my taste but I'd say overall it has a pretty good story with various characters to be explored. MC's pretty unlikeable but grows over time and changing with his views on war. I still don't like how the game paints a pretty clean/good picture of the IJA, but understandable due to the MC's background (It would be nice if the game tackles more on the grey issues surrounding Japanese war/occupation in WW2).

The game progresses well throughout the common route but ended up rushed right after you enter each of heroines' route. Kinda funny how each heroines actually developed a huge crush and a pretty damn close relationship with the MC at the end of the common route, but right... Read more »

<report>Now that the english release has been announced, I thought it might be helpful for potential readers to share some thoughts on the game.

Be aware that this is more like of a lasting impressions review rather than a post-play one, as it's been two (or more) years since I played this and I never fully completed it (finished Yukikaze and Ailah's routes).

Story
The main story is very good and could have been as great as the likes of Eustia. From the premise to the development throughout, it's an escalating ride that is ruthless in its development, leaving you speechless at some moments, but without shying out on sensitive war or moral/ethical topics. While it does have its share of comedy... Read more »
