Description

For a long time, the three sisters Joanne, Kira and Thalia were on their own, living their separate lives. They believed their mother Arianna, the Queen of Thieves, to be dead, executed twenty years ago in the town of Ahkra by the villainous Lord Raul Capello.

One day, their father Lysander calls them to Ahkra. He has big news: their mother, and his wife, could still be alive! At least, that's what a mysterious figure is telling him. They seem to be the only one who knows what's really going on, and they’re willing to help the sisters, for a price.

They'll need to follow in their mother's footsteps, robbing from the rich to meet the increasingly outrageous demands of their mysterious benefactor.

Protagonists

Joanne
HairBlond, Long
EyesBlue
ClothesCorset, Detached Sleeves, Dress, Fingerless Evening Gloves
RoleOlder Sister

Description

Joanne is the oldest of the Queen of Thieves daughters and the only one born with the gift of magic. From a very young age, she was able to instinctively use her abilities to all kinds of magic. Her ambition when she was a child was to go to a famous school of magic and learn how better to use her gifts. Her dream fell apart, however, on the day her mother was captured. With her gone, she was the only one left, apart from her father, who could care for her younger siblings. She became almost a surrogate mother to Kira and Thalia. Her younger sisters have not always appreciated this but they understand what she had to give up to do it.

Unlike her sisters, Joanne has no real experience with romance. Between looking after her sisters and focusing on her magic, she has had little time to really explore such things. She has been in relationships but they always ended very quickly. Joanne assumes it was because she was taking things too slowly for them or else they had only been interested in her body and not her mind. She likes when people are interested in her body, especially her legs, but it upsets her if they try to push that forward into something more than she is ready for. Her youngest sister often mocks her for being a thirty year old virgin although that is usually in response to Joanne chiding her over her rather loose attitude towards sex.

Outside of romance, Joanne comes across as a friendly and knowledgeable person who exudes extreme confidence in everything she does. The only problem is that when things go wrong she tends to get extremely flustered and her mind goes blank. She has gotten so used to things going how she expected that things going wrong is so utterly alien to her that it completely throws her off. Her sisters take great delight in teasing her during those situations which makes them even worse.

Joanne often gets into arguments with her younger sister, Thalia, over the gods. Her sister rejects the existence of divine beings while she believes them to be extremely real. She is often mocked for her devotion, attending the local temple at least once a week to pay her respects to the gods. Unlike her sister who blames the gods for what happened, Joanne believes that only by petitioning the gods will they succeed in their endeavor to rescue their mother.

Kira
HairBlack
EyesAmber
BodyOlive
ClothesBelt, Boots, Off-The-Shoulder Shirt
RoleMiddle Brother

Description

Kira is the middle child and often feels the pressure of such a position. During her younger days, she always found herself trapped between Joanne and Thalia when they were fighting. She sympathised with her older sibling’s desire to help them all grow up but she also found herself agreeing with her younger sister that Joanne was not their mother and had no right to act that way. In the end, she usually ended up siding with Thalia but occasionally she would agree with Joanne when their youngest sibling just went too far with her teasing.

When she was old enough to leave home, she moved to a town a few miles away from Triberg to work as a guard. She enjoyed the life very much. There was a comradery amongst the guards that she had not experienced before and it made her happy to live amongst such a large group in their barracks. Unfortunately, many of her fellow guards were into drinking heavily and Kira got into that habit too. While she is not an alcoholic, Kira finds it hard to stop once she starts. This has led to her getting entangled in several illicit liaisons with her fellow soldiers. On occasion, this led to brief but disastrous relationships, most of the time it just led to a very awkward morning and a splitting headache.

Perhaps her greatest weakness is a lack of belief in herself. Kira is rather convinced that she is stupid and that her love of alcohol just confirms it. Despite that, Kira really is not stupid but simply lacks the confidence to use what she was given. She often solved unusual cases when working as a guard but she fails to see it was because of her intellect that she did so.

As a rule, Kira finds being direct is the best course of action and his little foibles when it comes to using whatever comes to hand to succeed. She will use her strength and even her love of low-cut shirts to get what she wants. She finds it very easy to make friends although some do find her a little taciturn at times. Most of all, she badly misses the structure and feeling of community being a town guard gave her. Her sense of duty keeps her from abandoning her family’s attempts to free their mother even when it feels hopeless, however. In order to get that back, she is determined to succeed and woe betide any who gets between her and her chance to return to the life she loves.

Thalia
HairBlond, Eye Covering, Gradient Colored Hair, Orange, Shoulder-length
ClothesShirt, Skirt
PersonalityAtheist

Description

Thalia is the youngest and more rebellious of the Queen of Thieves’ children. She is short, scrawny and not particularly strong but she has been blessed with great agility. Throughout her life, she has used that skill to great effect to play pranks on her older siblings and overall make a nuisance of herself. She was the first to leave the family home at the age of fifteen and seek out a ‘better life’. Soon after, Thalia found herself working as an acrobat in a troupe of traveling performers. She was very good at it and soon found herself performing in front of many rich and powerful people throughout the world.

Her travels brought her into contact with many people and she found all of them interesting. As part of her exploration, she found making love to those new attractive people she met was the best way to get to know them. She slept with men and women of all shapes and sizes. Species was little barrier to her nor was social class. A performing acrobat was quite attractive to jaded nobles and she was more than happy to oblige their curiosity with her own desire for exploration.

There is little Thalia does not like about herself. She loves her body and loves how easy it is to get people to do what she wants. Discretion is not in her vocabulary and she has a habit of offending as many people as she delights because of her extremely plainspoken nature. Her boldness greatly upsets her oldest sibling and subsequently she often gets into arguments with Joanne over just about anything. When she gets into fights of any kind, Thalia’s usual tactic is to go for the most vulnerable area and attack it over and over again until her opponent yields. In the case of her sister, it is constant teasing that Joanne remains a virgin at thirty years of age. On the other hand, she does get very angry if she is ever accused of being some kind of whore because of her sexual exploits. She does not consider herself easy and hates that her sister accuses of her of such. The fact she is so cruel in return feels justified because of that.

Unusual in this day and age, Thalia is an avowed atheist. She refutes the existence of divine beings and will openly argue with those who do. She thinks priests exist only to extort money of others and that temples are just expensive status symbols designed to show off how much money a particularly religious order has. When pushed, she will accept powerful magical beings could exist but they cannot be gods since they clearly do not see and hear all like the priests claim.

When it comes to her mother, Thalia remembers little about her but that does not make her any less determined than her sisters to free her. Being such a lover of traveling, it horrifies her to think her own mother has been trapped in one place for twenty years and so she wants to free her to give her the chance to see the world just like the young acrobat has.

Main characters

Fredrick Holtzer

Description

Fredrick has been a lifelong resident of Ahkra. He was born in the town and expects to die there. His family has been living in the area for generations and he has some pride in that. Even when things might be better elsewhere, he has rather stubbornly refused to move on.

He currently runs a rather successful shop selling all kinds of goods. The middle classes and even some nobles frequently patronize his establishment leaving him relatively well-off compared to many others under the rule of Lord Raul. His success has made him rather unpopular with his fellow merchants but he cares little for that. So long as those that count him as friends like him then he cares little for those he is not friends with. He does not make real friends easily, however, so there are few that have a high opinion of him in Ahkra.

Most consider Fredrick a troublemaker who has no respect for the rules of business. He scoffs at such attitudes, attributing them to jealous rivals who struggle to grow even as he becomes more successful with every passing year. That is not to say he believes himself superior. He just believes in taking risks and reaping the rewards. Sometimes those risks do not work out but he does not let that destroy him like so many others. No matter how badly he is put down, Fredrick will get back up.

Mary-Ann Folami

Description

When Mary-Ann was an infant, her grandparents and parents left the Broken Lands to settle in Ahkra. Her grandfather started a forge in service to Lord Raul’s father and soon her family began to prosper. That ended shortly after Raul came to power. Her grandfather had died by then and Raul had little interest in the services of Mary-Ann’s father. They were cast out of his castle and were left to man a forge in the city. Gone was the creation of unique weapons and armour, replaced by horseshoes and other simple things that any competent blacksmith could make.

Shortly before turning eighteen, Mary-Ann’s parents died and she found herself alone. She decided to take over the family forge and has served as the town blacksmith ever since. Mary-Ann is extremely gregarious and very good at her job also. She is very popular in Ahkra and she often likes to take advantage of that. Deep down, she yearns to do more than what she does now: however she understands that she cannot abandon her family’s legacy.

Mary-Ann is infamous for her sexual appetites and has had a string of female lovers. It is well known she has little interest in serious relationships but most of her former lovers say that blacksmithing is only one of her considerable talents…

Melvin Thorburn

Description

Very few people in Ahkra really know Melvin. He is the scion of a long-standing noble family although rumours persist that he is the last of his line, and his estate is essentially empty except for him. His family fell out of favour with Lord Raul due to issues dating back to Melvin’s childhood, and it appears Raul has little interest in burying the hatchet. Mostly, he is seen visiting various business in the city, and buying all sorts of strange items that may no logical sense when put together. No one quite knows what he is up to although there are many who are curious.

Those few who have interacted with Melvin find him rather charming albeit somewhat vain. He tends to agree with any compliments given to him and has gained quite a reputation as a womaniser. Many do fall for his good looks and charming words, thinking they have won the heart of a noble, but all have ended up disappointed when he vanishes after a night of passion.

Some have noted an undercurrent of rage that can be heard in his words, especially if the topic of Lord Raul or the Queen of Thieves comes up. Most assume it is just his anger at his family’s treatment at the hands of Raul or that his family was one of the many victims of the Queen of Thieves. Whether that is true or not, Melvin has no interest in answering.

Moirgane Mercier
RoleWaitstaff

Description

More commonly known as ‘Girl!’ or ‘Hey you!’, Moirgane is the long suffering waitress at the biggest tavern in Ahkra. She has been working there for several years now and knows practically everyone in town because of it. No one has a bad word to say about her and she is very popular with her often surly employer.

Moirgane can be a little awkward when around people she is not familiar with, but she tends to warm to people quickly. She has a reputation for being kind and accommodating, something she is quite proud of although it embarrasses her to be praised in front of others. Many do not realise it, but the waitress is actually extremely intelligent and particularly gifted when it comes to working with numbers. She does not keep this fact a secret, but it so rarely comes up in conversation at a tavern that many assume she works as a waitress because she was too stupid to do anything else.

With her life largely dedicated to working and helping her family, Moirgane has almost no experience in love. She is fairly sure that she is attracted to women, but outside of that she has done nothing about any desires she has ever had. To her, she cannot spare time to indulge in love while her family needs her help. Perhaps one day she might be able to find someone to love but for now work is what she needs to keep focused on.

Therjalla Arme’Fallanerien
HairRed
EyesAmber
BodyPointed Ears
RoleElf, Healer

Description

No one really knows who Therjalla is apart from being Ahkra’s new healer. The old and much maligned healer died very suddenly a couple of weeks before the sisters arrived in town, and the priests of the temple begged the traveling elf to stay on as temporary healer, until a replacement could be sent from the order’s headquarters hundreds of miles away. She agreed to do so, as despite being a scholar first, she still held to her vow as a healer, and could not let the people be without one for however many weeks it will take for a replacement to be sent.

Outside of healing, Therjalla keeps to herself at all times and talks to no one, except to collect various supplies she has brought in, to aid her research into the various herbs and plant life of the world. Several people have spotted her roaming the woods at night, collecting samples and carrying them back to the temple where she stays, but what she does with them nobody knows.

Many mistake the scholar for being cold but she is nothing of the sort. Therjalla actually cares a great deal about people, she is just not a particularly expressive person. She does not think there is anything wrong with this, and makes no effort to change her demeanour to suit others.

Tiberius Celsus

Description

The captain of the guard has served Lord Raul for all of his adult life. He joined the city guard as soon as he was old enough and quickly rose through the ranks. Due to his tall height and build, most assume him to be a mindless thug but that could not be further from the truth. Tiberius is an extremely thoughtful person although he can come across as being rather slow because of this. He thinks things through from all sides before coming to a conclusion. This can frustrate some, but he can be stubborn when others try to force him to move at their pace.

Tiberius is extremely popular with the women of Ahkra, although as yet he is not known to have had any real relationship with any. It has led to rumours of him having interests outside of women although he has always denied such accusations when questioned. Asking him about such things is one of the sure ways to embarrass him. His female friends get very defensive when he becomes uncomfortable, so it is often advised not to fluster him in front of others.

Most people find Tiberius rather taciturn. He tends to speak little of himself, when he does speak and overall his speech tends to be to the point. His duty comes before everything so he rarely socialises except with those he knows very well indeed.

Arianna Spiros
AliasesArianna Mires, Queen of Thieves
HairBlack
EyesGreen
RoleMother

Description

Daughter of a very successful merchant, Arianna was popular with both nobles and commoners alike. She was often seen in the company of all kinds and no one thought badly of her for it. Most famously, she was fought over by a young Raul Capello and Lysander Spiros. In the end, Lysander prevailed and Raul never forgave him for it. Arianna herself felt great affection for both of them, and likely loved both of them too, but there was something dangerous about Raul that made her decide it was better to spend her life with the poorer Lysander than live a life of luxury with the Capello family.

Arianna is a very strong willed woman with a big heart who finds it difficult to say no to people. It was perhaps why she took so long over her decision on who to marry which led to the grudge that developed between Raul and Lysander. Despite that, she still believes in doing what is right even if that means hurting those she cares for. A quality that came to the fore when Raul took over as the new Lord after his father died. He was a tyrannical ruler and Arianna found she could not turn a blind eye to the suffering as others. She took up the name of the Queen of Thieves and set about doing her best to righting the wrongs inflicted by the man she loved.

Being the Queen of Thieves came easy to her, she had been blessed with great strength, agility, intelligence as well as the gift of magic. Some wondered if she was actually the daughter of normal humans thanks to her amazing abilities. Whatever the case, she never sought to use her blessings for herself and always in the service of others. In the end, however, it was not enough and she vanished twenty years ago never to be seen again, her works left unfinished and the people still suffering under the rule of Lord Raul Capello.
