Description

Our hero, Makoto, possesses the power of "kotodama" which allows one to control people with the power of one’s voice.

Having an interest in the outside world, he leaves the hidden village he has lived in all his life. However, he found himself woefully unprepared and collapses on the side of the road in a small town almost as remote as his village. Just as he's resigned himself to death, he's saved by Oribe Kokoro, a girl whose family runs a cafe in that town.

Using his kotodama powers, Makoto becomes a part of the Oribe family and begins attending school with Kokoro. He soon meets several girls who each have their own special circumstances. Will Makoto be able to use kotodama to help these girls? And what is the true nature of kotodama?

This is a story of the words that weave the ties that bind...

<report>Amatsutsumi has a ladder route structure very similar to Gsenjou no Maou. Instead of routes, the stories are divided into chapters dedicated to each of the main heroines. Then you can choose to romance them and branch off or not. And there is a true route and heroine. This concept alone was already really interesting to me.

The protagonist having a really unique power called the kotodama where he can command people to do things was a really interesting concept.

All 4 main heroines are quite likable and have good character development to me.

The main character is not a virgin and in fact is kind of a man whore having sex with all the heroines kind of early on.

If that bothers you, don't read this. If you don't mind, this is a great visual novel with a good mix of romance and story.

<report>Without the true route, it would be a rather forgettable game. It was some time since I've completed it and I can barely remember anything about Kyoko and Kokoro, which proves how non-important and bland their stories were. Mana, on the other hand, is a great heroine and though her route was kind of lacking in logic I still enjoyed it and her interactions with the protag were interesting. In the end, though, this entire story exists for the true route and its two endings. They are really unusual and hit you hard. Hotaru is the best girl. As the story has the ladder structure you can go straight for the good parts, ignoring the two lackluster girls if you want. Also, it's worth mentioning the h-scenes are long, well-written, and the art is great.

<report>Great moege with a touch of nakige, best VN of Purple Soft ive read of the translated ones. My experience might be quite different from a lot of others since I decided to avoid the other heroines and went all in into the final heroine before going back to do the rest. Anyways, if you read it like me you'd probably get an exhilarating and emotional rollercoaster of a ride with how much more drama and serious plot twists it could get compared to the usual Purple Soft.
If there were flaws keeping me from giving it a perfect score, it would be that certain H-scenes went on too long and I think could have reduced 1-2 H-scene for each heroine, and then the other heroines routes besides the final one were alright but feel like they went on a tad bit too long and not a strong enough conflict.

<report>The moe slice of life romance is the majority of the game. Mainly mundane stuff and then a decent amount of moe. The moe is decent but they overuse scenarios. I really could not care for romance in this game except for Hotaru who is pretty good especially compared to the other girls. Game is honestly pretty sucky outside of stuff involving her. Really the only notable thing about the game is mystery and drama but you have to work for it.

The question to ask is if the juice is worth the squeeze. Amatsutsumi is more of the regular stuff. Mindless slice of life that mostly leads nowhere and mid tier moe. If that drives you a bit crazy then maybe reconsider. If you stick around and have the patience for it there is some pretty good stuff in the later parts of the game

<report>A really solid nakige with mysteriously low ratings for its quality. As far as I remember, it had at least 0.3 higher average rating before getting a translation. The last two endings made me cry when I played it a few years prior, which means "mission accomplished". IDK if the reason for lower ratings is the translation itself or just the difference in the audience, but I recommend this game to anyone interested in a nakige with some action and mysterious powers to spice things up a little bit.

<report>very good. It lacked humor and romance and overall fluffiness, but it had interesting story objectives and good climatic experiences. This is a vn that keeps you wanting to see what's next. Many people seem to find it very emotional, but it really did not hit home with me. I didn't feel much. Also don't make playthrough videos of this vn or other purplesoft vn's. It got Bosskwar's channel taken down for a while before deleting the playthroughs of all purplesoft vn's.

<report>To tell the truth, I don't like this game at all after I played and dropped it. I was first attracted to its opening song, which songs good. However, its too much H scence disgusted me and the hero of the game acted like a FUCKING MONKEY because he did sex with every girl he met! I can't bear this goddamn game anymore.

<report>Amatsutsumi stands on the strength of its main route. Depending on how you feel about the other heroines and sexual content the journey can be circuitous, but the story of Makoto and the kotodama is worth seeing to the end.

Amatsutsumi is a pretty interesting read, the game has great art, good voice acting, and good enough ost.
This game's common route prob the most unique from anything I read but not sure if it's in a good way.
The game work in a ladder structure, you get the option to enter a route, and if you decline it moves on to the next big plot.
The first three routes (Kokoro, Kyouko, Mana) kinda end before they begin. Their biggest problems and struggle are dealt with during the common route and only after those ordeals can you get the opportunity to enter their route. Very different from how other VN I read when you only explore a character when you enter their respective route... Read more »

<report>Amatsutsumi Review (The very definition of "Food for Thought")

- Synthesized Impressions
Amatsutsumi is at its best when presenting distinctive themes and following the eccentric nature of its premise. When illusions are allowed to be just as real as the truth, or when hollow sacrifices turn into meaningful life lessons, Amatsutsumi reaches its peak.

There's a lot of "artificial emotion" in this VN, but that is not, inherently a bad thing. Its concepts are sound and the unusual human interactions, born form the intriguing setting, always lead to some satisfying conjecture. The problems Amatsutsumi faces, begin on the rare occasions it tries to be logical and explain things. It fails... Read more »

<report>tl;dr: A visual novel with really strong character development in the protagonist, though with a bit of a unique structure with certain parts being very noticeable weaker.

Kotodama is a power that lets one control others through spoken words. “Bane but a word. Boon but a word.” An isolated village of people with this power exists far in the countryside disconnected from modern society. Due to this power, the village is full of taboos that generally inhibit communication. And furthermore, inhabitants are generally forbidden to leave. A teenage boy named Makoto who lives in this village finds everything about this stifling, and thus escapes. He eventually finds himself in a small town... Read more »

<report>Kept me constantly on edge with nice little plot twists and heavy atmospheric story telling.
I think it was one of the few VN's were I believe the ladder structure was better than normal routes because of the very heavy focus on Hotaru as the central heroine.

Still all the characters were quiet charming, however, it is unfortunate that most of them bland into the background and basically becoming support chars along the ride later in the more significant parts of the story, that is if you aren't following one of their routes first which were entertaining but not even remotely on the same level as the true route ending.

Because Amatsutsumi has a really nice build up. The more you advance... Read more »
