Description

Shukugawa Meguri is afflicted with an illness called the “Oumon” disease. At this point in time, nobody knows its cause, and there’s no real treatment for it yet. The only option with a slight chance of success, is to undergo a heart transplant. But finding a compatible heart is something that can be compared with a miracle. For that purpose Meguri’s sister, Ria, was actually born as a designer baby. So that her heart could be used “like a spare”.

This is the story about two sisters, the youngest born for the sake of the eldest. Other than their family, only Meguri's best friend Ryuuji knows about their secret. Her resolve wavers during the little time they have left. What will be the conclusion at the end of these emotional moments?

<report>i really enjoyed this visual novel. it was very emotional and heart warming to read. the only downside was that there were too many h-scenes that interrupted the flow of the story and dragged it out. otherwise it was an amazing read and i would wholeheartedly reccommend anyone else to read this visual novel.

<report>Not gonna get into the plot since the other reviews go over it already.

The main issue with this VN was probably the amount of H scenes in the later middle point of the game. It got to the point where it felt more like a nukige than a nakige and forced me to take a few breaks from reading. The game had 7 H scenes in total, and imo a non nukige VN should have only 1-3 H scenes per route, depending on the length.

But once you get over that you will get a really nice VN with a bittersweet conclusion which might just leave you in tears (it did for me).

<report>So you probably already play/heard this type of story about "Terminal ill relationship" but here this concept is pushed further and now this is a story about dying COUPLE. Pretty minimal change but it did wonders for that game uniqueness.
The rest of the story is standard for a Nakige. We got a romance growing, decease progressing and ending for crying. Nothing huge but the fact that protag is ill too change so much that is is giving entire different experience.
There is some cons like oversaturation with H-scenes near the end (Come on! How many are there!?) that take too much time and, for some readers, annoying characters like Ria, mainly because she is locked on her "purpose" and don't want to see another point.
Overall recomend it to all Nakige lovers for a fresh idea of "ill couple".

<report>I didn't want to post a review at first, but I saw the two reviews which look at this work in an extremely dry way.
First of all, I agree that no one should ever hide the fact that not only the heroine is dying, but the MC as well, which is shown early in the prologue. That fact alone completely changes how the whole story flows. You look at the entry and see a typical dying heroine story. You can already picture all the tropes in your head. That's not this game. A dying couple, now that's the real shit.
The story is mostly about romance, which understandably makes some plotfriends mad, while moebutas like myself get absorbed into it. While there's no "getting the girl" part, there is a... Read more »

<report>[Review may contain mild spoilers revealed in the first hour of gameplay - should not really affect your enjoyment of the work]

Inochi no Spare takes on a tried concept: a terminally-ill heroine & a protagonist who accompanies her on her final days. The work deviates from the usual paradigm in one major way: the protagonist is terminally-ill too. It's this minor difference that makes a whole world of difference in how the plot itself is carried out. Ultimately, this is a work that's good only if you find yourself attached to the main heroine -- I personally didn't for the reasons that I'll describe below.

From the start, I really wanted to like the work, especially since its broader... Read more »

<report>生命のスペア(Inochi no Supea), literarly translated as The Spare for Life, is a masterpiece of nakige. It is highly recommended to play this kinetic novel.

The background setting of this game, which is about an unknown terminal illness, is kind of cliched. However, the game extraordinarily presents the struggle and hopefulness of the protagonist and the heroine expressed while they are fighting against illness and successive desperation. Their discussions of and determination on desire for happiness and future is an impressive embodiment of the brilliance of mankind. These appealing philosophical discussions enable the emotions to penetrate the veil which shrouds the heart of the player... Read more »
