Description

This is the fourth game in Palette’s 9-nine- series. 9-nine- takes place in the run-of-the-mill college town of Shiromitsugawa where an earthquake breaks a sacred artifact from the Shrine of the White Serpent, unleashing jewelry-like items that bestow their holder's special powers called "Artifacts" from a parallel world. When an incident involving a power that transcends human comprehension, Kakeru Niimi, our protagonist, investigates several branches (parallel worlds) in order to settle the matter.

With the mastermind finally revealed, Sophitia, otherworldly entity set to reclaim the Artifacts, tells him to defeat this person pulling the strings. The first day, the day that the festival was cancelled due to the earthquake back at the shrine—Kakeru is now equipped with memories from every branch and is on the move to solve this conflict.

Amidst this, a girl with a strong sense of justice from Kuho Girls Academy, Noa Yuuki, has an ability that seems to be the key to defeating the mastermind. Knowing this, Kakeru divulges about the events in other branches to her. All the while uncovering the secrets behind why the Artifacts come to this world, settling the scores with the Evil Eye's User, what will be the fate of these young men and women with otherworldly power at the fingertips?

<report>Ep 1-3 is compulsory reading, anyone saying otherwise is lying.

With that said, Yukiiro takes off directly where Haruiro left us, and from then on it's an exciting ride from start to finish. The usual cast of characters are back, and Kakeru-Sora banter only gets better from here on. There's also a lot more screentime for Noa (obviously) and side characters like Shireikan and Sophitia, so the cast feels a lot more well-rounded this time.

I rate completely based off enjoyment, so a 10 is only natural for a game that sucked me in so much. It has its many flaws, but the catharsis it offers can only be rivalled by very few works in this medium. Kakeru's VA also put in some solid work this time.

Dead horse and etc, but if you can read it in JP please do. The EN translation is woeful.

<report>9-Nine Episode 4 is the grand finale of this superpower series, and it sticks the landing.

In an emotional rollercoaster of a ride, this volume concludes in an explosive, hype-packed, cathartic final battle, worthy of the chunni power fantasy references it makes.

And while delivering on its superpower plot-line, it also presents a great character progression of its spotlight heroine, Noa, as she reveals her true self in her genuine expressions of happiness. All while intertwining her internal development with the grand narrative, becoming a great driving point for the series towards its conclusion.

<report>this is the roguelite of visual novels, and absolutely something to be read. i know the previous three chapters are kinda weak, cringy and poor in writing, but this one is something else. no further caption needed

<report>In short, this game, 9 Yukiiro, is just slightly above mediocre. It reveals the remaining secrets of the 9nine series but it is hard to say that the plot is well written. If you have played the 3 previous episodes, it is recommended to play this. However, if you are new to 9nine series, think twice about whether you like this series.

Although it has no significant logic glitches, the plot shows inconsistency with the theme of the game. The setting of time loops reduces the sense of irreversibility and desperation, which are major points of the theme.

Also, the characters’ development is just so so. It exists, but only exists in the level of multiple stereotypes.

<report>It has some really clever and actually thought-provoking ideas, even though the "logic"/"coherence" part of the story ended up being somewhat stretched in the process IMO. The final boss fight felt too fast. The need for Shinshou to tie up all the loose ends feels superfluous. The potential of exploring the theme of power growing out of control and devouring the user is also left untapped throughout the whole series, making things quite black-and-white. Somebody commented that it's "the best Charage ever", which is not exactly my thing, but probably explains my impressions a lot. Another of my gripe is how they IMO excessively focused on the "contrast" aspect of Noa and made her end up surprisingly boilerplate. I would like her to occasionally still remain cool when together with Kakeru.

<report>9-nine was overall a good read. This episode was very eventful and featured some interesting gimmicks that are possible with vns. I did have some complaints with this episode though. It was so fast paced and had so much going on that I couldn't keep up. I eventually got confused and lost about what's happening, but maybe i'm just too stupid. Also the conflict lasts so long in this vn. I found myself wishing the vn would end already because the action and conflict keeps dragging on and on, but tbh that's probably because i did nothing other than play 9 nine all week long. Definitely read "9-nine: New Episode" after this. Its much more chill and you will certainly need the break after this, as well as wrapping things up because this episode ends relatively abruptly.

<report>The usual "Read Episodes 1-3 first" note.

That being said, Episode 4 makes it all worth it. I'm writing this review at 6 AM after being up all night reading it. The twists, the surprises, the character interactions, the emotional investment are all top-notch and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I would dare say that this is quite possibly my favorite VN of all time.

<report>The final ep where everything finally comes to a head. By this point the true nature of Kakeru's abilities is made clear and you help him out a lot more into going across branches in order to find a way to stop the main villain, which only Yuki seems to be able to. From here you will now see how much all the previous eps matter and tie into the story. A lot of crazy shit is gonna go down here that will blow your mind.
Kakeru truly reaches the peak in development and change here, you will see him not like any other and really a far cry from how he started in the series. Yuki appears to be their best combatant and strongest but you will see there's something keeping her from her full potential. Kakeru will not only need to unleash this potential but really needs everyone's help this time.

<report>9/10 for the episode, and 8.5/10 for 9-nine- as a whole.

My overall opinion on 9 -nine- as a whole is similar to my feelings about the Hitman series: good game, held by release model. I thoroughly enjoyed it - it was slow at first, but all of the characters are likeable, the developments and interactions are enjoyable, and the plot is fun and interesting once it gets going.

But I can't forget the fact that as a whole it costs more than some AAA games in my region.

Enjoyable or not, that's painful for my wallet, which is why 8.5/10 is as high as I can give it as every time I thought "it deserves 9 -nine- out of 10 -sora-" I can't help but remember the cost. Probably less painful in other... Read more »

<report>I'll start this review off with the obligatory "Read the previous 3 episodes first" disclaimer. This isn't a series you can fully enjoy unless you have all, and I mean ALL, of the context. You can think of the first 3 episodes as just the required context for Episode 4 even, with Episode 4 being the goal and finale. I'll be breaking the review down into sections as some others do and there will be no spoilers. The sections themselves won't be scored as I've decided to let the overall score I gave the episode speak for itself. Also I'm not one of those people who reads VNs for H-Scenes and in fact I prefer to do without them when I can. Thus this review is for the all ages Steam version and... Read more »

<report>Personally I really recommend you to play 9-Nine episode 1, 2, and 3 before playing this to understand the story better because this game continue directly from 9-Nine episode 3. You will use "Overlord" from the start to try kill Iris, unlike the previous games, before starting Noa route. I will say that I really like how they incorporate chart to manifest "Overlord" power, especially near the end.

Noa route is a little different than previous route because we already use "Overlord" power to change things so things move faster than previous 9-Nine episodes. Because of that, there are many surprise and twist in this game.

The characters are still the same and very lovely. The music has... Read more »

<report>To preface things, I should certainly start by saying that Yukiiro is good. In fact, it's really damn good. It follows in the footsteps of all the previous entries perfectly and acquits itself extremely well as the exciting climax to everything the series has been building towards. I'd have very few qualms about calling it the "best" Episode of the four. However, I'm still a little bit surprised by just how much higher it seems to be regarded compared to its predecessors. For instance, in terms of rating, there's a very big delta between the introductory Episode 1 and Episodes 2&3 which I definitely concur with, but there's an equally big delta between Episodes 2&3 and Yukiiro which I'm a... <report>I just finished Yukiiro, but haven't read the fan disk/sequel yet. Honestly, I wondered why this part was rated so much higher than the prequels throughout most of my playthrough. That is, until I reached the grand finale, which is quite amazing. Definitely one of the most badass final battles I've seen in any media. Most of the game isn't that much better than the previous two parts, but the final few hours are really on another whole level. Except, it was way too short. As if the author was too lazy to make a proper true route and just included it into Noa's.

Overall, the series is totally worth your time, whether you're interested in romance or action. Nonetheless, I think this game is... Read more »

<report>One thing important for everyone before reading. This VN is not 12hrs! I counted carefully and even if you completely skipped ecchi scenes, it's still hours longer than that. And you'll probably need to stop occassionally to understand the plot.

I'm giving this one 10/10 as I (pre-promised?) in Haruiro's review. Certainly one of the best ones in recent years. I will try to rate and review this spoil free. And hopefully everyone who finished previous three episodes can read this one cause it's probably better than all three together.

Plot:10
Finally every mystery of the whole series gets solved. I quite love the background and system in episode 4. It's not as simple as I thought, and there... Read more »

<report>Better than ep 1, slightly better than ep 2&3. Not gonna bother reviewing those episodes might as well lump it to ep4

Mediocre production, mediocre both as a chuuni and a charage. It kinda sucks at both of them. It is balanced quite well though because the chuuni mystery is just interesting enough to maybe want to see through the end and you can tolerate the sol that way. And the sol is reprisal from the garbage action that's tacked on as part of the mystery and battle of wit

Yoichi is an annoying dork. Sora is a mix of both irritating and quirky fun (i dont care too much for it). Haruka's shy gimmick is annoying but she's fine, Noa is the strongest and most moe of the heroines. I'd... Read more »

<report>Well so we come to the conclusion of the story... or rather we almost do cause of a cryptic message.

Let's get the boring parts out of the way first. Technically, Art, BGM, VA and everything else work just fine just as with the three previous entries. But this is the part we worked towards and spent ~80 Bucks to see so lets get into the meat of the matter. Is the 9 Series worth your money?

Short answer: Nope.
Long answer: It's really well done and the last episode picks up a lot of quirk and drama, so if you can pick it up at a sale... totally go for it, <~40 bucks I'd totally recommend the series. I still think that the "normal" price is waaaay overpriced for it. It's not that it does... Read more »
