Description

"I, the new transfer student Hanamaru Mari, like Komachi Hirotaka! Please go out with me!"

Being agitated by his juniors;
Hitting on the student council president;
Chasing after idols.
The protagonist who lives every day carelessly, Komachi Hirotaka.

In the midst of that kind of daily life, a sudden confession...
Her brief statment became the impetus which started the conflict that would engulf the dumbfounded protagonist.

"Why are you ignoring me and being lovey-dovey with these random women!? Are you saying you don't care about me anymore!?"

"Senpai... you know Renna will always do anything you ask for... anything at all."

"Is the reason Nii-san won't pay attention to me because of all these floozies surrounding him?"

Largely without the person being fought over knowing about it, an underhanded and petty battle royale for true love unfolds between the 4 girls!
Whom shall the Goddess of Victory smile upon!?

<report>A generally fun read. However, it seems that along with other reviews, I have to concur that the Asa has focused much more on the comedy and goofs to the expense of the more intimate or romantic moments I experienced in the last game.

The score of this review is mainly based off the ENG version of the game. For whatever reason, Nekonyan has decided to double-down on their absolutely memetastic localization of the game, which harms the immersion of the game and the overall emotions. Moreover, they decided to translate "inkyaa" as "incel" for what I can only guess is a direct attack against its readers - I can't think of literally any reason why they would've included this into the translation of the game. It's repeated almost 120 times.

<report>My expectations were high for this game after Koikari but unfortunately it turned out to be no good for these reasons

-the plot gives you almost no explanation at all on what is happening
-the side characters seem to have more screen time than the protagonist with meaningless boring
conversations
-the characters are not presented well the only good was shione were you can see a backgorund story and a development
-the mc seem to not have no personality at all he just goes on like nothing is happening which is sad cause on the beggining he said he would try to have a girlfriend and seemed energetic to do so

All of these were a downgrade compared to Koikari were the mc had a cool personality the heroines were really well developed and had a lot of story.

<report>This VN is really fucking hilarious and its best parts comes from when the characters are making snide remarks to each other and competing for the MC. If you come into the VN with that in mind its really enjoyable. There are some issues with regards imbalances on the routes. Some routes are really hilarious including the H-scenes but lacking a bit in emotional/drama, some routes have some more emotional/drama events but at the cost of losing some comedy. While I did lament early on about the routes lacking some emotional depth, the comedy is the strength of this VN and id prefer they have just light emotional stuff if it means more comedy. Got say that the main heroine got the short end of the stick here and takes too much blame when MC also has responsibility for his choices/feelings.

<report>Renai Royale in short is a very funny read. Emphasis on the funny. If slapstick comedy is your thing, be prepared to laugh your socks off like I did. With that said, I do feel like ASA trips over itself here with the very obvious fact they are sacrificing everything for comedy at this point, even during intimate moments. Not to mention how the whole comedic theme makes you question even the heroines a little like “is she for real now?” 🤣 Despite that, with only one route under my belt, (the osananajimi Queen Mari) I can say it did deliver some basic stuff during the character route. While it could do without some looong banter scenes, the overall hostility of the girls towards each other and its utter lack of seriousness, I can surely say I had lots of fun reading.

<report>Renai X Royale – Love’s a Battle had me laughing from start to finish. It won’t be for everyone with its fourth-wall breaking and focus on comedic characters over romance routes, but it’s a ton of fun. I really appreciated how even side characters had their moments to shine too.

<report>Reading these reviews makes you think that this is the worst game ever written... It is not. Ren'ai x Royale is supposed to be a silly romance + comedy story and imo it did pretty well on both aspects. The humor is miles ahead of Koikari and better than 99% of visual novels not published by SMEE that you will ever read. Only problem is how the common route made the heroines seems worse than they actually are, I actually liked Mari and Renna more in their own routes.

<report>This VN will either be your cup of tea or it will just be a cup of dirty looking water to you.

The humor is mostly centered on poking fun at VN tropes, including a lot of breaking the fourth wall. This is laid on very very thick. At first I enjoyed it, but it drags on and continues to be really heavy-handed even into the heroine specific routes.

YMMV but I also personally only found one of the main heroines (Shione) and the two sub-heroines (Yuna and Class rep) to be characters that one could actually be interested in romantically. The others all had some major flaws or were just outright creepy.

Again though, I think that this VN in general is one that you either really like or you don't. And I happen to fall into the latter category.

<report>Just in terms of pure comedy, Renai x Royale is in the top 5 funniest visual novels I've ever read.

As Asa Project tends to do, (like in Sankaku Ren'ai and Koikari Love For Hire), they pride themselves on making the heroines as savage, stupid, and goofy as hell. Asa Project has a very distinct over the top comedy style that goes well beyond the typical anime harem comedy. If you like Asa Project's style, you'll love this game, but if you don't I'd recommend staying away. They made a "harem already super thirsty" gimmick work pretty well here.

The one flaw is that for a moege, the actual Romance in Renai Royale is.... OK at best. Outside the side route with his ex, the romantic development was kinda shallow. Doesn't help the heroines mostly have little depth on WHY they like the MC.

<report>Suffers from the same problem as others by this developer. Namely: the comedy. Their style is to keep the comedy on auto-fire from beginning to end. Jokes literally every single breath each character takes.

And this is a problem. Not only are a ton of the jokes misfires (about 30% of them actually land, as a generous estimate), but they don't seem to understand how to let jokes BREATHE. Constant jokes produce diminishing returns.

Write some prose. Basic conversation. Have a joke here and there. I get that this is a comedy title, but when you don't pace the jokes, it becomes utterly exhausting to read. I became tired of the entire cast very quickly.

Final note: fourth-wall breaks should be avoided unless you're a comedy genius. Which these writers are not.

<report>Welcome to Renai X Royale, I also call it denny doyale. This game is mostly pure humor and forth-wall-breaks to the MAX. I very much enjoyed the mc becoming more and more degenerate as I read on, though I probably just got lucky with the route order in order for that to happen. The story is very simple, it about all the girls fighting a battle royale over you.

Oh also a lot of people complain about Mari, but she was my favorite girl so I can't say much on that matter.

Also some people complain about the translation of some word being "incel". But I can't think of any other word would fit and still be funny. So "incel" is the best possible translation in terms of funniness, accuracy be damned.

<report>There is this term in psychology called preselection where a guy is most attractive to girls if the girls see the guy with other girls dying to be intimate with him. It almost never happens in real life unless the guy is a celebrity or a heartthrob, and it doesn't matter if he is good or average-looking as long as he knows how to talk to girls. This story is a good, although not perfect example of preselection; the MC doesn't simp too much, doesn't stuttering every five seconds in front of a drop-dead gorgeous girl, at least not all the time, and challenges the girls making it feel genuine when their relationships develop romantically. In fact, I've seen a few other VNs like this from Asa Project like Ren'ai Karichaimashita and I hope they make more of these stories.

<report>This is a game about one girl, Kagaya Yuna. Now, if you go to the game page you will find out that she is not on the cover screen with the 4 main heroines. That's right, she is a side heroine. Yet you can with utmost certainty say that she is one of the main characters and the most important one at that. She is both a blessing and a curse of this novel. Her presence in the plot and in MC's past is what moves this whole VN. Coming from their last game, Renai Karichaimashita, I had high expectations for ASa Project's new work. Yuna is what ruined this whole VN for me, yet she is an angel whose route is a true pleasure to read.

I should say she is not a side heroine on the same level as... Read more »

<report>Ren'ai x Royale was funny and entertaining for me, but I feel like AsaPro sacrificed too much for the sake of the humour and gags this time around.

The worst aspect is probably the MC, who doesn't feel like a coherent character. His personality seems to change to suit whatever joke is being set up and I never really knew who he was supposed to be. Other characters jokingly(?) refer to him as a psychopath and unfortunately it's kinda fitting. I didn't feel a shred of sincerity from him towards the heroines, which in turn made it impossible to enjoy the romantic aspects of the game for me.

The heroines lean quite heavily into their quirks and some of them are barely anything but that. This... Read more »

<report>I honestly don't really understand what exactly the writers were trying to do with the plot progression of this game.

You've got a nutty premise where a group of girls are all in love with the protagonist Hiro to the point of obsession, stalking and god knows what else. This is mainly played for comedic effect without really making any of them come across as likeable, a sort of "battle royale" of love between the main heroines if you will, hence the title.

This works well enough as a comedy for a while, but then at the same time you also have the enigmatic presence of Kagaya Yuna at all times. Yuna is not even really a main heroine of this game, she is not on the cover of the game or on... Read more »

<report>This was somewhat fun and entertaining to read in the common route.
But the Character Specific Routes are butchered by other Girls constantly getting in the way of the romance, interactions, sexy time and more.
This is especially bad with Mari, where she constantly gets in the way between the protagonist and his loved one. This gets really bad on Nonoka's Route, where she is even crawling into his bed while he makes out with nonoka, just what the actual.
And I thought In Koikari it was bad.

But what is even worse then that? The Protagonist. I have never seen such a bad MC. His personality seems to shift to whatever joke may be fitting for right now.
This is especially obvious in Mari's... Read more »

<report>I know a 10/10 for a VN like this might sound ridiculous but I'll try to explain.

The main reason is this: the comedy in this VN is really top notch and I often found myself laughing hard at the jokes. It's the first time in years a comedy-focused VN actually manages to make me laugh and not cringe. In other words, the VN is already a 10/10 if only for the jokes.

The art is great, the heroines are cute (even the guys are) and the plot... Not sure if there even was one but I didn't mind. The music isn't bad at all.

The common route is by far the best the VN has to offer. It's got the funniest moments and you learn to love all the characters - even the most obnoxious (I'm looking at you... Read more »
