Description

Yuuichi Aizawa, a high school student, returns to a town that he last visited 7 years previously to live with his aunt and cousin. For a reason he’s not quite sure of, he can hardly remember anything about his last visit, but initially this doesn’t seem to worry him too much.

The day after he arrives he goes into town where he (literally) bumps into a girl named Ayu Tsukimiya, and Yuuichi’s memories slowly begin to return.

<report>The first visual novel by Key. Kanon has one of the most touching stories I have ever read. The story is kinda complex, fusing romance, drama and supernatural.
Kanon has it all: great art, touching story, cute girls that actually have and interesting character and, maybe the most importantly, an amazing soundtrack.

I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes Key and hasn't played this yet, or people who want to experience a unique story.

<report>It was truly a great experience, first key vn and it shows, this is far from perfect, but i found so much to like and enjoy, and it made me feel a lot of emotions that none of the flaw really hindered my enjoyment.

The heroines while pretty unoriginal are really likeable, the plot for each route is good for the most part, the drama is sometimes a bit weird in the way it's done and brought up.

I'm in the minority who like the art.

The music is really good but there is a noticeable lack of track overall, the voice acting is top notch, Makoto And Ayu voices are really outstanding.

Worried at first as it appeared to be rather basic and unoriginal, i ended up really loving it, a visual novel truly worthy of the title of classic, absolutely recommended !

<report>I read this visual novel for its historical significance, was t worth it? Not really, but I also don't regret it.
Each route could of honestly been summarized in 10mins so what stands out in this game is it's SOL element. So unless you enjoy reading about daily school life in a winter town, I wouldn't recommend this VN.

With that being said, the SOL is really comfy and good Japanese practice, the OST and voice were incredible, probably the best part of the game.

The H scenes were badly animated half the time, totally unnecessary imo

<report>To me love is time, to me wanting to spend time with someone is love, to me spending time together is love , ive said to male friends i care about , ive said it to women i thought of as more than friends and ive said it to family. To me time spent with someone even in silence or not sharing an activity is love.
Kanon might not be for everyone but for someone who perceives love in the way i do its something special and unforgettable its a love that can only be dreamed of for most people but tragic in a way that can feel real to alot of people. To me Kanon is a one of kind story its love in exactly the way i understand , its tragedy in a way i understand and its hope for tomorrow in a way i long for to me Kanon is easily a 10/10 to me its unforgettable and to me its irreplaceable.

<report>I vote 10 only for Ayu scenario. Other scenarios are MUCH worse (at least for me). Some of them are kinda "okay", some are very boring.

Ayu scenario is on CLANNAD level imo. Can recommend to read it.

<report>An excellent VN with a sad plot and a decent soundtrack. The only thing I didn’t like was the blue-haired girl route, it’s terribly dull. And the hentai in this VN is not fappable, i mean, poorly made.

<report>One of my first visual novels and the first game from Key I played. Which means that I read it more than a decade ago, though I re-read it later as well. The game's art didn't age well, and perhaps the same could be said about the writing, but at least three of the routes made me cry (Shiori, Makoto and Ayu), which means the game works well as a nakige—one of the first ones to be ever created, by the way. It's not a bad starting point if you plan to read all games from Key, it has much shorter routes and is more to the point than their later games, though in exchange it lacks polishing. The music is still very good and sets the mood just right. Despite it having "unlockable heroines/routes", there's no overarching plot, so you can just get a full save and skip heroines you don't like.

<report>it's a damn good old vn. not so much story wise but more for the ambience which i usually set out to find in vns and i love the atmosphere. the ost, drawings will feel very cozy, as all key works do. don't get me wrong, the story isn't bad and the translation is absolutely awesome, it had me laughing and shoutout to the translators who did an awesome job, but i guess i just felt like ayu's route was a bit lacking, though this is just my personal opinion, it was well constructed-- all routes were enjoyable.

very good option if you're starting out and don't really wanna commit too much.

<report>a masterpiece that is still incredible to experience

Kanon is the first VN from KEY, a VN company that is famous for making classics like Clannad, Little Busters, and this little gem. It is a VN that simply got all emotions right. From the funny moments that make you laugh your heart out, to the sad moments that make you feel like said heart is being stabbed by a knife, to the mystery moments that make you wonder what is actually happening, to all the other great moments you could think of.

The story begins in a simple way. You are Yuiichi, a high schooler who is returning to his hometown after a 7 year absence and entering his new school there. However, it will quickly branch in many... Read more »

<report>Kanon is a really beautiful story, and it does a lot of things well. In fact, the more I think back on it, the more I actually liked it. If you've read other stories by Key, you'll have a good idea of what you're in for when you start Kanon, and I think it's safe to say that this title set the precedent for the company's later works. Like its descendants, Clannad, Little Busters, etc, Kanon has a lot of choices, and I was surprised to find that pretty much all of them have a traceable impact on the story. The characters are also really enjoyable, if a little cliche. Each of them is a treat to learn more about as you progress through the routes. There was nothing that made me reevaluate my... <report>Whew, another Key project added under my belt. While I must say it kinda tripped a lot in terms of writing perspective, it wasn't entirely painful to read, to say the least.

However, though, I cannot shake off the possibility of this "prototype" work of Key could have turned out to be something quite spectacular had they been invested more thoroughly.

But what do I know, maybe they already did learn from their past mistake to realized their flagships series later on such as Clannad or Little Busters!, but whatever.

It goes without saying, this is still Key's very first work, so I sort of understand the inevitable shortcomings that spread all over Kanon. Regardless, I'm not going to go... Read more »

<report>Experiencing Hisaya's and Maeda's writing journeys through Moon. and One hasn't been pleasant from a traditional point of view, but from an analytical one, it has pleased me beyond belief. Seeing the mixture of styles in Moon. and their separation in One has proved to me which of the two is more worthy, and Kanon further emphasizes that preference. Maeda has yet to take the reins in this project, being left with only 2.1 of the routes, while Hisaya takes the planning credit, most of the routes, and the "main" route of the package.

Nayuki's route: While in likely every visual novel that allows it, I'd rather do the true route first, or at least the route of the titular heroine, in this... Read more »

<report>I finally have finished kanon, this road, this journey, it wasn't too long. It was actually really short compared to other vns but I took the long way and had so many stops between vns and other mediums which made me spend a lot of time with this work, reason for it was that I wanted to treasure every girl's route by herself.

KANON was and will be a really beautiful piece in my mind and playing it with all this time showed me how other authors that I came to know have had inspirations from this wonderful work, but that isn't what I'm here to talk about, yes I'm not here to say what kinoko nasu or ryukishi07 learned From this work, I'm here to say what I learned and enjoyed from this work... <report>It took a while to get around to reading this. However, after enjoying numerous other Key novels I finally took the time to go through this one, because I wanted to experience Key's first vn despite its age. Note - The version I read included voiceovers.

I think it's important to consider the age when it comes to rating this, had this been a title released only in the last 5 or so years I would have been more critical of the overall polish of the game. However, to me that seems a little unfair.

So the rating I gave this vn is based solely on the writing, and the characters of each route.
While forgiving things like the old school art, lack of polish, or animations, small library of... Read more »
