Description

Why don't you come to the planetarium?
The beautiful twinkling of eternity that will never fade, no matter what.
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.

It is thirty years after the failure of the Space Colonization Program.
Humanity is nearly extinct. A perpetual and deadly Rain falls on the Earth.
Men known as "Junkers" plunder goods and artifacts from the ruins of civilization.
One such Junker sneaks alone into the most dangerous of all ruins -- a "Sarcophagus City".
In the center of this dead city, he discovers a pre-War planetarium.
And as he enters he is greeted by Hoshino Yumemi, a companion robot.
Without a single shred of doubt, she assumes he is the first customer she's had in 30 years.
She attempts to show him the stars at once, but the planetarium projector is broken.
Unable to make heads or tails of her conversation, he ends up agreeing to try and repair the projector...

Mini reviews

<report>Planetarian presents a dystopian setting, in which the protagonist is a product of the desolate state of the world, but throughout this visual novel, his interactions with Yumemi change him dramatically. Yumemi shows the retrospective of human evolution, the possibilities of human civilization, and the generosity of human compassion.

The ending to Planetarian is not an orthodox one, but a bitter one, and it will make you sad and gloomy by the end of it.

It’s a great slow read for short easy-to-pick up VN, where everything from its music, visuals, and writing blends together wonderfully. Planetarian presents a touching view in contrast to its bleak setting, all from a girl that isn’t human, but is the true idealism of humanity.

<report>I've never cried so hard at a video game before. An incredibly moving story the likes I've never experienced before. I have a hard time emotionally connecting with a lot of art but this story is something else, I really truly believe this is a magical piece of art. I strongly encourage you to read it.

<report>Never have I been so emotional over a visual novel in my life. "Planetarian ~the reverie of a little planet~" is a kinetic-style visual novel, where a story is told in a typical linear way without multiple routes or choices for the player to make. This is the story of a lonely traveler, in a future where the Earth has been destroyed by war, who stumbles upon a little girl all alone inside a desolate city. Though a short read compared to some of the more well-known novels out there, this story has no shortage of thrills, chills, and tear-inducing moments for the reader to engage in. It is truly a masterpiece that does not get enough recognition for its beauty.

<report>Not for the faint of heart, by far one of the most touching stories I have ever experienced.

I could not believe such a short story would leave me so completely heartbroken. I have read my fair share of VN's that will bring a reader to tears. It hit me just as hard as the best out there. I will always have soft spot for this game.

This was a simple story, with just two characters. This just goes to show that you don't need a long and complicated story with lots of characters to break a person.

Edit - After gaining a wider perspective over time I decided to change the rating from 10 to 9, and update the reviews wording.

<report>Prepare yourself to the most emotional game I ever played, when I played this game for the first time I cried like a baby, I never cried so hard for a fictional character, the reasons for that are engaging characters, nice soundtrack, a devastated and melaconic world and a story that from start to finish never gets bad, this game deserves to be played, trust me...

<report>A beautiful and moving little story.
The narration quality is high standard as you whould expect from a Key visual novel. Except that it's more of a kinetic novel, meaning there's no choices or branching routes. Still it's very impactful. Someone once said: It's a story that shows you the best and worst side of mankind next to each other. While I think that doesn't nail it, it's certainly close to the essence of the story. The plot is not bad, but the main interest lies in the only two characters and their interactions, namely the unnamed human MC and the robot Yumemi. While the man is a cynical, war-torn but still considerate person, the robot is naive, pure hearted and really lovely. I never felt as attached to a fictional robot. It's a short read so everyone should give it a try!

<report>✔️ Played on Steam Deck, it works smoothly (23/03/2023). You willl need to use the touchscreen for the menu and R2 button for advancing text.

The story didn't feel as touching and emotional as I was expecting. I liked it althought I'm a bit dissappointed since I thought there would be a wider plot development and more chapters but still found the story fullfilling enough.

<report>Beautiful. It's a story that puts you in a certain place, in a certain time, without much detail, and invites you to think about the implications of what is presented. Despite presenting incredibly heavy themes, it does not preach or even mention directly its own themes... it invites you to examine every aspect of it and come to your own understanding. A genuine work of art.

<report>Just didn't hit me like other novels do, especially from Key. Was not impressed with the storytelling, and much of anything really. However, it is pretty short, voice acting is good, and there is one particular scene of the heroine's backstory that was good in the feels department. A take it or leave it kind of experience for me. But if you are a fan of Key, I doubt you will regret giving this a shot.

<report>I can't say much about the game because it is a basic key visual novel that has to make you cry. And I cried...
The story itself reminds me of Lucy - Geunyeoga Baradeon Geot. A lot of things are similar even the ending is almost the same... IMO the key stories always make me cry and It's good.

Would I suggest to play in it? It took me 1 and half hour to complete it so you can try out. 7/10

<report>The firs VN to make me not just shed tears but actually cry. I was choking back sobs and had to blow my nose several times. I knew this was a tear-jerker going in so I thought I was prepared. I was not.

<report>Planetarian was the first KEY visual novel and short length VN I read. It wasn't written by Jun Maeda but does have unique twists to make it stick out as a dystopian sci-fi. I kinda liked it, but prefer the longer KEY stories for sure. The anime adaptation wasn't bad.

<report>It's the story of a robot in a post-apocalyptic setting, her meeting with a protagonist that is fighting everyday to survive in such a world, and both share their experiences and hopes to each other.

<report>In all honesty, I think this is the worst of Key's visual novels. Not for the writing necessarily. It's just fine. I just don't enjoy kinetic novels with no choices whatsoever. There's no decisions to be made, and for me, there's no immersion. I didn't feel as though I was part of the story. I couldn't create any connection to the protagonist. I felt like it would be better as an anime movie or TV show rather than a VN.
