Description

Symphonic Rain takes place in a fictional city of apparently Italian heritage, where rain falls everyday. The locals there have adapted to this peculiar phenomenon, and carry on with their lives as if the rain was never there. No one takes an umbrella, no one wears a rain coat.

The main character of the story is 17 year old Chris, a Fortelle student of the famous Piova Communal School of Music (Scuola Comunale di Musica Piova, in Italian). Separated from his childhood sweetheart Arietta when he left his home town for the city, he keeps in touch with her through the means of weekly letters. Penning their thoughts on those letters, Chris treasures and keeps her weekly writings, for he had promised her that should his drawer become totally filled with them, he would return to her.

The game starts during Chris's third year as a student, a few months before he has to take the school's final graduation examination: a staged performance. As an instrumentalist, he is required to search for a vocalist partner before he is eligible for the examination.

<report>A wonderful and in many ways unique visual novel with a superb, touching soundtrack, great melancholic atmosphere, and an emotional story that has more to it than meets the eye. Admittedly, it does take a while before it really gets going and it might be a bit rough around the edges here and there, but if you give it a chance and stick with it, it will reward you handsomely in the end.

<report>This game is more than it first glance.
This game is a game that will make you remember it story for a years.
This game have a great song/ost that represent it own story and heroine.
This game is One of a kind.
Only downside i see is while this is a Remastered, the save/load function is very bad no image of save files.

With all that it get a 9/10 form me.

(not good with eng sorry.)

<report>I don't really see the appeal here. Excluding the true end, the first 80% of a given route is just filler with them then going through almost the exact same developments. It really felt like you'd seen all of the routes after finishing just one. The supernatural elements aren't anything special either and pale in comparison to what Jun Maeda has to offer. Really just a very stale title with very little going on throughout the experience. The true end was the only good route out of the bunch, but certainly doesn't justify the time commitment to get there.

<report>Almost dropped it completely after the common routes. It gets really interesting when you are past them, but it was not a novel that got me reading like crazy. Took me 51 hours actually so it's not short, and I haven't completed 2 bad routes.

But the plot it's what It's, slice of life, they didn't want to create something supernatural and that was not what I aimed for either.

Played with auto play cos I had some problems (I was reading from the sofa and an adventure part came in and my keyboard was charging, I grabbed it and dropped my fav glass cup which broke lol) and gave up on playin. Also I am a musician myself and it was hard to actually play a tempo, so autoplay at least did let me enjoy the songs.

<report>If I had to summarize the experience with this vn it would be dissapointing.
Don't expect very intense emotions in this one, which is ironic because is a nakige. While it does have its moments and surprises (that is something good in Symphonic Rain, unexpected events happen, and it happens throught the story) it has some BIG plot holes and the soundtrack doesn't make the experience more emotional. I know, is a 2004 visual novel, but in the remake you could re-arrange the OST.
And the story is plain boring most of times, even though there is quite some SoL moments, nothing really happens, and they don't make you symphatize with the characters, lots of filler here.
Maybe I am not impressed because I've played lots of nakige and my standarts are quite high, but I don't really reccomend it

<report>I don't feel like it's a masterpiece but I've been expecting it because of the intro. The story of the visual novel is pretty common at the beginning but the more you read you'll notice that it is not that simple as it seems. I can say music was fine and enjoyable however nothing special. The plot is good but...mostly it was boring to read it. There were a lot of interesting moments though. If you wanna read a romantic story, then you shouldn't read it imo. The game doesn't have any sexual moment and it reminds me of key studio. Maybe you should read their works instead of it. The game itself is fine but I guess it's pretty boring. 6.5/10

<report>Symphonic Rain is a visual novel that stands out with its premise and presentation. The setting takes place in a town that is constantly raining, so the atmosphere is calm but melancholic. This is accompanied by a soundtrack that sucks you into the world and perspective of a gloomy music student.

The main character and heroines are very interesting with each of them having their own motivation for what they are trying to achieve, and each of the routes feeling connected thematically. The director, on the Symphonic Rain website, perfectly explains how he wanted to tell the story:

Characters who aren’t too pushy.
A cast of voices that aren’t too gaudy.
A world that isn’t too far from

<report>I've seen a lot of people get filtered by this game for quite awhile and I can see why. Symphonic Rain requires quite a bit of patience and faith that something good will eventually happen to make your time investment worthwhile, and it takes about 20+ hours for it to finally capitalize on all that mundane slice of life and nonsensical endings you've just read. I don't think the twist is all the unique in itself but the way the original routes hide it away with subtle writing and even subtler character interactions and symbolism really makes it something special. It completely makes you reevaluate everything you've already read and gives you a really satisfying viola moment and finishes it... Read more »

<report>If asked to summarize my feelings on this game in a single word, I think I'd describe it as an especially "well-realized" work. That is to say, it's a game which attempt a fairly narrow conceit but largely manage to achieve the entirety of its artistic vision. I found it to be a fairly unique and neat experience, one which has some cool ideas and some remarkably internally consistent and deliberate execution, but unfortunately not something I found extremely special.

To be sure, the game certainly has a lot of strengths. Something which should be super self-evident from the very first minute is surely the game's phenomenally atmospheric and evocative setting: the milieu of Piova, City of... Read more »

<report>Symphonic Rain (Criminally close to a masterpiece)

- Synthesized impressions
Symphonic Rain is an exercise, on how to translate emotions and feelings into speech, actions, lyrics and melody. An explanation, on the differences between a corrosive half-truth, a lie that does you good and an illusion that prolongs suffering. An undertaking on the nature of human desire and wanting to do everything possible to be with and live for the one you love.

Symphonic Rain tries, most of the time successfully, to lay bare a portion of the human soul and it doesn't need a universal scale or some grand achievements to get you thinking, beyond what's right and wrong, good or bad. I am not exaggerating... Read more »

<report>Game could have used some heavy editing -- there are too many story days when almost nothing happens.

My first route was incredibly boring, with a very unsatisfying conclusion. The other two side routes are a lot more interesting and dramatic, with surprisingly dark moments . Only then you get access to the 4th route, which repeats the story of the 1st route, but through a new perspective which makes it a lot more interesting. Once you finish that, it is possible to go through a 5th route, which was interesting and touching, but a bit contrived IMHO.

Graphics are so-so: characters are cute, but not very detailed, same with environments (though this seems to be a design choice, not an... Read more »

<report>Symphonic Rain is a story you need to fight for.

I mean it. It is a tale demanding of your patience, but once you give it, you do get back a gratifying and worthwhile conclusion.
I felt a little conflicted when I finished it because, while it's pretty consistent throughout the ride, it does take a long time (and some questionable moments) to get into the really interesting stuff.

What it does best is the atmosphere. It really knows how to pull you into the city of Piova, the remote city in Italy where rain never stops falling. The music themes and setting fit well with the entire ambiance of Symphonic Rain, and the grounded characters are placed perfectly in the narrative.

We're dealing... Read more »

<report>Symphonic Rain is one of the first 3 visual novels I ever read, back when it was fan-translation where you had to edit your computer registry to get it to work. Thank god the Steam version exists as I think it's by far the best way to experience it now. I personally think it's the best romance nakige / emotional visual novel I've read, way better than every Jun Maeda / KEY visual novels.

I quite like how unique the setting is, there's not many anime or visual novel settings that take place in a music-heavy school, especially in a place where it's constantly raining.

All of the main heroines are likable and interesting, they have unique personalities and backstories, and have some kinda of... Read more »

<report>(TL;DR in the end)

Well, what a ride...considering that is a somewhat old game (it's getting closer to almost 20 years after it's release), it's not hard to see some technical limitations, as in the CG's, the gameplay elements (yeah, I'm aware that it's kinda weird to say "gameplay elements" in a visual novel), and other aspects, but putting that aside, and if you really give this read the proper attention and time that it deserves...you're in for a treat.

It's a great story overall, all the routes are done well, the plot is well put together, the characters, the songs, and I found myself enjoying more and more as the story progressed. But I want to be clear: you really need to battle... Read more »
