Description

Okazaki Tomoya is a third year high school student at Hikarizaka Private High School, leading a life full of resentment. His mother passed away in a car accident when he was young, leading his father, Naoyuki, to resort to alcohol and gambling to cope. This resulted in constant fights between the two until Naoyuki dislocated Tomoya’s shoulder. Unable to play on his basketball team, Tomoya began to distance himself from other people. Ever since he has had a distant relationship with his father, naturally becoming a delinquent over time.

While on a walk to school, Tomoya meets a strange girl named Furukawa Nagisa, questioning if she likes the school at all. He finds himself helping her, and as time goes by, Tomoya finds his life heading towards a new direction.

<report>It's far from perfect in my opinion, half of the route are not that great, they reuse a lot of trope they used for kanon and air, but the really good stuff is amazing.

After story is the pinnacle of what key can do.

Some of the girls are really lovable, truly memorable.

The voice acting is outstanding, i love key art and character design, legendary music.

I'd of course recommend it, i think the route i didn't like still weren't terrible and others might easily think they're great !

<report>No other VN and very few other art / entertainment products have affected me as much as Clannad did. After the rather slow beginning had ended I got so hooked on this that I quite literally spent all my free time reading this (I'm talking at an average of 9 hours/day here) until I had finished every single route.

There isn't really any negative things I have to say about this: The writing is great, all of the main characters are complex to at least some degree, the stories range from good to excellent and the soundtrack is so great that I still listen to it half a year after finishing the game.

A side product of all this is that thanks to Clannad I have now developed a visual novel addiction, but I suppose as far as addictions go it's not the worst thing to get addicted to.

<report>I seriously can't even start on what makes this so special to me. This was my first visual novel and still is my favorite. This Visual Novel is VERY long. Like super long. But the payoff for finishing it is immeasurable. This anime made me realize many things about myself, and about how I am to my family and friends. It made me realize life is too short and unfair, and more than that. I can't say much else without spoiling it. But one thing I'll say is if you pick this up, do not quit because it seems boring at the start. The time to payoff ratio is huge. It makes the hundred or more hours VERY VERY worth it. This is a masterpiece as cliche as that sounds. The writing here is some of the best I've seen in a long time. Thank you Jun Maeda.

<report>One of the first visual novels that I read when I got into the medium, and the first Key VN that I read and made me a fan of them. It has been some years since I have read this but I never left a review back then.

I will always look back at this game with nostalgia and honestly a fair amount of bias. It still remains in my opinion the best Key VN. I wont ever forget many of its moments, and quite frankly the later Key games were never able to exceed the emotional effects it had on me, only ever coming close. Emotions that felt real, amplified right to the reader. Along with fantastic hard hitting soundtracks.

<report>I'm choosing a mini-review because otherwise I could be here all day.

Clannad is one of my first Visual Novel. The amount of details that go into living in the game's world, the relationships Tomoya has or builds during the course of the visual novel, and the way those lives around him affect others is nothing short of legendary. Clannad is a VN that deeply changed the way I approach art and especially dramatic content, having read it when I was a teenager myself.

Going through every character's route and seeing these new perspective and how these characters grew with or without each other always gave me a pit in my stomach of how choices can affect others. Yet it was during the afterstory that the game really broke me. Stories about imperfact adulthood and regret mixed with happiness.

<report>Story about a boy who hates his present surroundings, until he met a girl who had a personality that was the complete opposite of his own. There are 5 main routes, and 8 side-scenarios which are drastically shorter. If you complete them all, there will be a surprise for you at the end on this, which will appear on the title menu. CLANNAD is full of characters who act wise, comical, immature, and their actions can be very loveable or cringeworthy. All of them are commonly kind though, to an extent where you will want to support them or help them no matter what.

<report>It's not better than the anime.

I'm not much of an anime watcher, and I've played far more VNs than the amount of things watched. But after having a blast watching Clannad, I read the entirety of the VN and found that I wasted my time. Sure, it's still a good game, but given the choice, there's no reason to go for it. I don't normally advocate for preferring the VN over the anime, but this is a major exception.

What are the typical problems of anime adaptations? Cut content, length, and omnibus format. But with 48 episodes, integration of all character arcs (IIRC), and OVAs to cover 2 of the other heroines, it's hardly a problem. Add to that greatly expanded storylines (Yukine) and, naturally, animations — what more could you ask for? At most, you're missing out on short kissing scenes.

<report>Clannad is an experience, for sure.
Main route is funny and interesting, but long. Most of the character routes are interesting, but some... not so much honestly.
At least there's a continuation, which you can unlock for completing every main character routes, and it's great, not gonna lie.
Yeah, also, prepare to CRY. This game will squeeze out tears from you.
Visuals are not everyone's favourite, but I liked them.
Music is amazing, I can't describe it enough. Entire OST is masterpiece
VN still have problems, like a really big length, which is dragged out a little too much, and also requirement to complete every route for the continuation. It's a big downside, so can't give it a really high rating.
Still, one of the best romantic VNs out there.

<report>This game took me a year to beat... to be honest, I think the first half of the game was not worth the approx 110 hours I sunk into it. But I'm a slow reader anyway. After Story's writing quality is worth the slow pace of the high school routes, and if CLANNAD was just After Story with an abridged version of the first half with the most essential routes, this would be a 10/10 game.

<report>I remember playing this game during my highschool when I used to sneak in my brother's PSP. I was only playing it to see the Kotomi Icihinose route, next thing I know is that I am doing Tomoyo Sakagami, then Kyou, then Ryou, then the rest. I got sucked into it. Overall a great game.

<report>I think this won't be the best, but it's must be my most meaningful VN in my life.
The Key's VN always show us how our friendships and our family affection work on us.
A small town, kind peoples and the stories about miracle made up a irreplaceable VN in the history.
"Walk forward as you can"
The most important thing in this VN is not the tears, but the attitude to unpredictable life and their mistake.

<report>Clannad was a very enjoyable read with many fun characters and enjoyable stories i can honestly say i enjoyed myself with this , however i personally wasnt a fan of how you unlocked after story especially because if you dont do after story nagisa's route feels incomplete and leaves on a cliffhanger i think locking Nagisa's route in general behind doing all other routes would have been the correct call but it was worth the grind to get to the end of the rainbow

<report>It is the masterpiece everyone says it is. It has no weak points.

Virtually every character who has a sprite has a satisfying route. All of the characters are three dimensional and thought provoking. Tears will be shed.

The voice acting is incredibly emotive, which I think is the most important thing in a VN.

The music is excellent, and I especially like the themes for each of the heroines, which masterfully capture who they are. The first time you see them on screen and hear that theme, you know a surprising amount about them.

The orbs of light are a really great mechanic. Most VNs just let you unlock stuff without any explanation as to why, but in this VN, completing routes (and getting orbs) serve an important purpose.

<report>My first foray into real visual novels, and a great one at that. I may have only managed to successfully clear one of its many routes, but that alone was enough to prove just how great this game really is. I can't say I'll be watching the anime or consuming any other Clannad-related media, but I'll always respect this game as the catalyst for my newfound interest in VNs.

<report>There is a lot to say about Clannad, one could write about it for pages, but I'm far too emotionally invested into the game to give it an objective review.
This work hit me emotionally like nothing else before or after it, with both the VN and the adaptation moving me to tears on various occasions.
All the routes, outside of maybe Kappeis, are great, the characters are lovable and fun, and Nagisa's route with its After Story is, in my opinion, a masterpiece beyond compare.

My favourite Visual Novel, and probably also my favorite piece of fiction, ever.

<report>CLANNAD is a Visual Novel developed by Key and has spawned a very popular anime adaption and two different manga adaptions.

CLANNAD is definitely the Visual Novel for you if you're looking for a nice Romance Drama Visual Novel to sink some hours in, although CLANNAD gets repetitive at times due to the game being stretched out quite a bit. It's one of the more longer Visual Novels and in my opinion it's just too long. Ignoring that though, CLANNAD is an amazing Romance Visual Novel.

<report>It's been a very long time since I played this and I'm only writing this review after the glitter has worn off, so to say. it's mediocre at best. this is of course when I write this in 2023 and not say, 2007.

the biggest problem I see is that it's too long. it doesn't serve well in a fast-food moebuta buhi buhi market. so unless you can miraculously find yourself unable to connect to the internet for a huge long time, in an era where I'm finding it harder and harder to find somebody, preferably a gen-z, to live one day without looking at a screen, this vn will be a hard sell. it gets worse when someone looks at this and "oh, 300 hours. I bet 60% of that is SOL trash" and I would agree. it had its time, but its time to move on.

if you want an old but gold, that award goes to Saya no Uta.
