Description

A story of revenge.

Hanachirasu is set in a parallel timeline where nuclear weaponry was never developed. As such, Japan continued to fight through World War II, ending aggressions only when Hokkaido and Kyushu were occupied by Russia and America, respectively.

The game itself takes place in early 21st century Tokyo, which has been transformed into a haven for Japanese culture thanks to the nationalistic ideals of the charismatic Ishima Kaigen. Strict policies are in place in to enforce a ban upon firearms within the city limits. Thus, though terrorism and power struggles run rampant, swordplay, not gunfire, claims the lives of those not powerful to stake out their claims here.

Our protagonist is one Takeda Akane, a swordsman driven by a desire to face his one true rival, Igarasu Yoshia. What will stand in his path to his goal?

<report>I was enamored with this VN from the very first time Akane trains with his sword.
The amount of information about swords and sword techniques makes this one of the most interesting VNs Ive read. You can definetly feel the author's love for swordfighting. If you're looking for something short but extremely cool and interesting definetly give this one a try

<report>A fainted sen against a feinted sen-no-sen meant to truly be a go-no-sen was actually a real second sen against the true go-no-sen.
If you understood that, based.
If you didn't understand that, you will...
Hanachirasu is a great VN, but you will likely be depressed at points while reading it. If you can handle that, have fun! Narahara's affection for the sword is palpable, and if you're anything like me, you won't be able to get enough of it.

<report>Short story about revenge with incredible details about swordsmanship. But has some flaws like a little bit oversaturation with infodumping which by itself is interesting, but it take screen time from other characters and because of that there basicly only ~3 characters worth remembering.

If you compare Hanachirasu to other Nitro+ games (like Kikokugai) then it's a little bit plain because there is nothing more than just "a story of revenge".
Was it good? Definitely yes.
Could it be better by presenting something more distinct? Yes.
It's a good story, but "good story" is all that is has to offer, therefore it's story that is fleeting like a wind.

<report>Descriptions of swordplay and alternate history abound, Hanachirasu details a game of cat-and-mouse in which nothing is gained and everything is lost for its two leads.

This, combined with the classic style of edge NITRO+ has come to be known for, culminate in a solid, short, and not-so-sweet Visual Novel.

Many aspects of Hanachirasu would greatly benefit from being expanded upon, and the alternate endings may as well not exist, but all in all, Hanachirasu is a quality experience. It sets out to tell the tale of two men consumed by a maddening obsession, and it does that extremely well... damning the rest of the cast and conflicts to shotty development in the process.

<report>Well executed revenge story with amazing writing and conflicting characters. The changes between Akane and Igarasu as protagonists and what are them next step creates an air of tension thoughout the story. Each word exchanged between both has a meaning and a purpose, every dialogue they have is impactful. The supporting cast also has a meaning behind every actions they take and why they take. Not a fan with all that mambo jambo about diferent katanas, swordfight schools, all the swordfighting tactics... remembers me when someone loves a thing so much that he goes into technical stuff and not interested you just sit quiet waiting so that you can move to other more amusing things. I also felt a lack of CGs for some big events.

<report>Hanachirasu manages to tell a linear story with depth without overstaying it's welcome. While at times the writing can feel like an encyclopedia, in general the world building is written well given the length. Thinking back to the opening world-building sequence in particular makes me want to read more in this setting. The linear story works in the readers favor, as there are hardly any detours from the plot, besides some 5 minute alternative ends and few gag ends. The action scenes could benefit from a bit more flash and length to them like that of TYPE-MOON's, but Hanachirasu managed to do something a little different and unexpected in each battle's short stay.

The characters can feel a... Read more »

<report>This was my first foray in the vast bibliography of Nitro+. I chose this title because I got it cheap on sale and I also heard that it was short. Overall it was pretty much what I expected: an edgy, semi-2deep4u story of rivalry of revenge. That doesn't mean that it wasn't fun however since this is exactly what I wanted from this title.

The story takes place in an alternate universe where the nukes were never dropped, but Japan still managed to get gangbanged by both the USA and USSR. The action takes place in the modern day Tokyo which since then turned into a shithole that nobody wants and it even has a giant wall surrounding it so that none of the undesirables get out lol. Another... Read more »

<report>A very stylish writing by Narahara Ittetsu. It depicted vivid swordfights, analyzing every movement, every detailed thought, making his writing coming to life.
The plot of this game is rather simple, without lots of mysteries, but that doesn’t mean it’s a boring plot. To understand this plot, we must first understand its character. There exists criticism about this game’s character development, feeling that its kind of weak for every character. In my opinion, the two main character, Takeda Akane and Igarasu Yoshia, are more like swords than human. That is why the story ends in the winner commit suicide after defeating his fated enemy: as a sword, he has already finished his destiny, and... Read more »

<report>Browsing through Nitroplus’ shorter works, while also craving for some good action, this VN caught my attention. Though I am sated after finishing it, the VN did not leave a lot of impressible memories to be etched into my head.

The plot is fairly linear in that it tells one story, and it does not have a lot of layers written beneath it. I see a tale of two warriors with a desire to exact and to be exacted revenge, and not much else. Compared to the similarly brief Saya no Uta, I see a tale of an extraterrestrial creature fulfilling its purpose on Earth, and along the way finding love with a human who has lost it all that makes him human. I feel that the plot concept and the storytelling... Read more »

<report>Hanachirasu, as is common with all Nitroplus titles, strives to be something different, breaking the mold of the usual VN format while telling a unique and compelling story all the while. And in most ways, Hanachirasu succeeds in this. Written by Narahara Ittetsu, known primarily for his second and last work Soukki Akki Muramasa, Hanachirasu can be seen in many ways as a prototype and demo to Naraharas later work.

Lets start with any aspect of this VN that isn’t related to writing and then work from there. In my opinion, everything other than the prose in Hanachirasu ranges from mediocre to slightly above average. Character designs, to start with, are only okay, with little variation in... Read more »
