Description

Six years after the war's curtains fell in Japan, Takashiro Shuugo found himself on a train bound for Zushi, a world away from his past life at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. The headline on the newspaper in his lap reminded him of the path that had led him here:

Ueno Serial Dismemberment Murder Case

This bone-chilling case set the wheels in motion for Shuugo's unexpected journey. His former boss had bitten off more than he could chew with the investigation and, knowing their shared history, reached out with a request — "Could you lend me a hand?" For Shuugo, turning a blind eye wasn't an option. He was roped into a case involving the disappearance of a damsel from a high-flying family.

At the Kouzuki estate, déjà vu hit him like a ton of bricks when he encountered Kouzuki Kazuna, the spitting image of his former flame, Kouzuki Yura. Kazuna, with fire in her eyes, implored him to unearth the whereabouts of her vanished twin. Yet, a man gravely informs Shuugo, "That girl, in truth, is no longer among the living..."

A maze of fiction and reality unravels in Ueno, a town still grappling with the post-war environment. And thus, a new tragedy is set in motion.

<report>This has all the ingredients of a good detective novel: corrupt police, a crime syndicate acting like the good guys, a weird cult where all the strange things happen, antagonists who've gone completely mad, and of course: whores. It's wonderfully twisted and morbid at times and it's pretty well executed, too.

But the Spontaneous Sex Scenes tag is no joke. For some reason all of the girls are just dying to get a taste of protag's cock and the unnecessary sex scenes distract from the story quite a bit. MG's decensoring job also doesn't help with the immersion, it looks as if protag is suffering from some sort of disease. Or is it the unnaturally red cock that attracts the girls? It's a murder mystery…

While there's nothing really mind-blowing here, it's still a pretty good read.

<report>I didn't even know that I will return to Kara no shoujo's series... but here I am! This novel is pretty good and pretty easy to read. It was really enjoyable to see it and feel it. There are still a lot of H-scenes but It's fine.

I'd suggest play in it if you like detective genre. . 7.5/10

<report>Simple story, which can be easilt guessed the tricks and Backstages, tells the crazy love of an unfortunate girl. The feelings and minds of the Backstage is the key parts of the game.
Shuugo is not a good character that he is always indecisive and doing nothing, just waiting for others to help him. It makes audience wonder why those girls love him and give their hearts and trusts to him...to me, he's really unreliable. His characterization doesnot change much in the FHD.
A route that Rin survived is added in FHD edition (GOOD!) as well as some others.
The TE of Yura in FHD gives the idea of how to cure the Affliction: not to ask for being loved but try to learn loving others. CGs are good, like the horror and blood. FHD OP 孤独の海 is excellent, perfectly match that person.

<report>There's a lot to appreciate in Cartagra. It has a cast filled with likable characters that have striking and memorable designs. The atmosphere is excellent, giving the story a somber feeling that's very unique to it. The art is beautiful, both the redrawn CGs and sprites for the original's content and the watercolor-style art that shows up in the remake-exclusive endings. Honestly, if you want a sell on the game, simply watch Rebirth's opening, it's one of the best I've seen in the medium. In truth, this game should be an easy recommendation.

Unfortunately, though, Cartagra is a huge mess. This is a detective/mystery game where the detective doesn't do much detective work. The flow of the... Read more »

<report>I read this novel after KnS (so I can't help but to compare probably more than I should), and also I did not read the remastered version yet (which added some new endings I believe). If they ever translate it to English, I will definitely gladly re-read it again, as it's a pretty decent piece of work.

The story is more simple then in KnS and same can be applied to your choices. The game is somewhat in general more straightforward in it's pacing, yet I guess it's actually a good thing. Cartagra can be read without a guide and you can check most of the endings on your own just by using your head (unlike the sequel).

The pros:

Even though I like the KnS art better, you can still see the... Read more »
