Description

May 1, 1945 ― Germany. On the eve of Berlin's collapse, a group of men and women carried out a certain ritual. To them, suffering defeat in the war meant nothing. If anything, the countless lives lost in the battle served as a catalyst to their sacrificial ceremony. Whether or not their attempt bore fruit ― not a soul knows. Following the war, they faded from sight, mind, and eventually into the realm of myth.

61 years later ― Japan, 2006.
Ren Fujii, a young man attending high school in Suwahara City, finds his friendship with his old buddy Shirou Yusa shatter to pieces following a certain incident, ending in a vicious fight that sees Ren hospitalized for two months.
The season shifts from autumn to winter ― to the dawning weeks of December, with Christmas on the horizon. Having lost his best friend, Ren leaves the hospital with the intention to rebuild his new life without Shirou.
But even that plan soon falls apart. Irrationality that defies the realm of common sense begins to assault and devour the city. Abnormalities soon seek to destroy everything Ren holds dear before his eyes with overwhelming violence.
He must change, even if it means crossing the boundary between the ordinary and the extraordinary. His desires are hardly anything grand. All he wants is to return to those days of old. Back to those days filled with simple, everyday joy.
The battle with the Longinus Dreizehn Orden. A continuation of that war full of madness, carnage, and maledictions. What future awaits Ren at the end of his road...?

<report>It was just over a month and a half reading what would become my favorite work, the experience that shocked and moved me the most, at the same time it made me tremble with euphoria at certain moments, it made me cry like a lunatic or enter in complete despair in others. Here's the most important message possible for my current moment, this was literally all I needed right now and it was conveyed in the best way possible.
Just thank you Takashi Masada from the bottom of my heart

<report>I really liked this vn, the action was good and the story was intriguing. The ost was 10/10, truly amazing, just perfect for the setting. I liked how some routes had a more tragic feel than others and that the previous routes added to the next route kinda where the next one built off of the previous one. However, I did dislike the romance here, for the most part it was kinda underwhelming in some routes, but in others it was pretty decent. Although I think a consequence of using the routes the way they did, it made for 3/4 heroines getting a bittersweet type of ending and not a true one, but besides that this is a good one.

<report>Have some of the best characters in any media (they all are really interesting to read through) and the CGs and Music are really well done. However, the pacing is horrendous (for a VN which the solely focus is in combat, the way that the narrative delivery that is not well done , but maybe is a problem with the translation how knows?). I Still think is a must read even with i not enjoyed it that much.

Rusalka best girl. Shame that we never get a route because plot reasons.

<report>This VN is the definition of chuuni, but made in such a way that it resembles less the delusional ramblings of an eighth grader than the overactive fantasy of a philosopher; Monologues and ideological debates abound, even in the middle of a lethal confrontation, all accompanied by a solemn and intimidating soundtrack
There's not much to say about the protagonist, even if he's not without a certain degree of growth, but the rest of the cast is top-notch, with Wilhelm and Shirou as my personal favourites

<report>Dies Irae is what I would consider to be a very archaic visual novel. Most of its prose is reminiscent of that era, particularly something shakesperian, its plot is also very basic and consists of a simple protagonist going against an antagonist(s), and most of the character writing for its villains is also rooted upon struggles from that era. However, when we look at Dies from its protagonist's view, it's far from that, and instead becomes something reminiscent of a moege. This mixture of a modern moege structure with prose, setup, and development which is naturally archaic makes for a one of a kind story which has become one of, if not, my favorite visual novels. I urge you to give it a try, since even if it doesn't mesh with you well, its undeniable that Masada wrote smth one of a kind.

<report>This is a classic game, and for its time, Dies Irae, drawn by G Yuusuke, truly shines. The VN's OST is on-par with Umineko one's, and the characters are well-drawn and have a properly thought out personality and lore. I will reread this in Japanese, but this is an amazing VN for anyone looking for a mindless Chuunige title to play.

<report>Has my second favorite cast in visual novels, the villains in particular are some of the finest in any medium. This is the epitome of chuuni so if you don't like over the top action or edginess you won't be able to stand this. But Dies Irae knows exactly what type of story it is and plays into this greatly making it one of my favorite visual novels despite not typically being the type of story I enjoy.

The main negatives are all related to pacing issues. Unlike most visual novels the pacing doesn't suffer from an overabundance of slice of life scenes, but from the actual battles themselves being bogged down by the prose. With that said the prose is a highlight of the story being more unique and interesting than most novels, it simply needs to know when to trim it down occasionally.

<report>I went into this not knowing what to expect. At first glance, I thought that I would find it distasteful.
With the overall themes and/or plot being centered around some dark aspects of history being turned into the classic good vs evil dramatic action sort of flick. I would not blame anyone for finding it quite ridiculous at first.

The first 3 to 4 chapters that introduced me to the game were very frustrating. A lot of things are unknown to the reader, so everything is very confusing. A lot of 'wtf are they talking about' and 'wtf is happening' moments. After one reading session of around 6 or so hours, I started to consider dropping it.

However, the further I got, the better it became... Read more »

<report>Dropped after ~4-5 hours of reading. Where MC has sex with the other head of the snake
The writing is somewhat incoherent.
However, the author clearly has everything planned out.
The characters are pretty decent. More interesting than the ones in Fata Morgana for example, which I gave a 7. So this getting an 8 seems fair.
The battle scenes are decent. I haven't read many action/superpower VNs (dropped Fate) but they were alright.
Creative. And the prose helps. But I'm not really fully stimulated.
I didn't feel much at the cathartic scene where MC accepts the powers from the girl either.
This isn't a bad VN. So let's say it's a 5/10.
I'd give it a +1 for cool characters - I don't really care... Read more »
