Description

Early summer.

A society which imposes special "Duties" upon everyone who breaks the law.

The individuals who oversee these criminals' rehabilitation are the "Special Elite"ーa rank the protagonist, Kenichi Morita, hopes to attain. To do that, he must pass his final exam, for which he arrives at a certain country town.

At the school Kenichi attends, he encounters girls bound by various “Duties.” Those obligated "to observe a 12-hour day" are forbidden from being awake for more than 12 hours per day, and those obligated "to remain in infancy" cannot grow up. It is meeting Natsumi Hinata, the girl who "cannot fall in love," that throws him out of gear.

Soon, Kenichi makes a series of odd discoveries… his own grave, erected secretly on a clifftop; his patrimony, hidden deep inside a cavern. Kenichi finds that he must search for his own atonement in this dystopian society. What is the truth behind the Land of the Spinning Wheel? Discover for yourself through Kenichi's eyes!

<report>One of the first vn's I read when getting into the medium. A decent option for beginners.

It was a worthwhile experience, it touches on some unique alternative themes of punishment that are pretty interesting to imagine how that would pan out in reality. Those themes are the main highlight of the vn, with character personalities matching pretty well with the punishment assigned to them.

Unfortunately it does not get much deeper than that, with the other aspects of the vn being pretty weak. Especially the later half of the plotline. It sort of leaves you with that unfinished feel once you are done with it.

That said, the plus points make it interesting enough. But dont expect too much.

<report>Cool premise, even better payoffs, and a fantastic cast of characters with a godlike protagonist / antagonist pairing. The TL was excellent and the VO work was so full of life and energy. It ruled.

My one complaint is that the route / heroine structure was weird, which I was similarly annoyed at with G-senjou. "Choosing" a girl has very little impact, and while the main heroine had a great backstory, she has a weak arc and muted personality compared to the others. It didn't help that her culmination happened alongside major plot beats involving the other girls + the introduction of a 4th, even more "true" heroine

Thankfully the story didn't suffer from it, I just found the romance parts a little hard to get into.

<report>Sharin no Kuni is absolutely one of my favorite character development focused visual novels. It has a very unique setting where the main heroines have to be rehabilitated by the protagonist. The fact that the VN is purely linear with the routes mostly differing for H-scenes and the ending, was something I really enjoyed and think is incredibly underused. It also has solid enough comedy. I wasn't a big fan of Ch 4, and Ch 5 was decent, but I was much more into Ch 1-3.

<report>It takes talent to write characters in a story whose weaknesses are believable. The first thing I'd like to say about Sharin no Kuni is that it absolutely knocks the ball out of the park on this front. Excuses characters make for their own shortcomings are ones I've heard before or even made myself. You'll start liking characters when they're introduced, grow to hate them when you see them at their worst, and then like them all over again after they better themselves, which is no easy feat to pull off.

Strong theming and great side plots which contribute towards an overarching one make the first three chapters of this VN an absolute treat. The story focuses around people with "obligations... Read more »

<report>Unnecessarily long and boring, not to mention too naive, like playing house. Probably only good for a mindset of 10 years old or so.

I won't criticize the naivety of the plot or the illogicality throughout the entire story too much here (even though they are the biggest problems of this game already), but the worst thing I can not tolerate is that most of the dialogs contain absolutely 0 information--and I am not exaggerating here--since you can safely skip 99% of all dialogs without the worry of not understanding the story, yet there are millions of millions such hollow dialogs. It is so tediously long and redundant that the writer themselves eventually forgot what they had written... Read more »

<report>I truly loved this visual novel the fantastic main protagonist an incredible main antagonist who I just loved to hate but just like with Fate/Stay Night which is still my favorite visual novel. These characters have strong beleifs and values that they are pushed forwards by Kenichi is pushed forward by his love of his friends and family and a strong determination and will. Where as the antagonist is pushed forward by his strong sense of purpose and his beleiif in the laws of the dystopian world he lives in. This visual novel is a true testament to ( just like Muv Luv Alternative my now second favorite visual novel) Will power and the human spirt. I found myself laughing, crying but above... Read more »

<report>Sharin no Kuni is a drama set in an arguably dystopian future, in a nation that punishes criminals by assigning them obligations for their crimes. The plot oversees Morita Kenichi, a highly skilled individual who aspires to be someone assigned to ward these criminals, and who has to overcome the many trials this entails.

The VN's setting is highly intriguing, and is for me one of the main draws to the story. Kenichi's connection to the girls, who are criminals (for various reasons that are explained), is a very personal one, and the tale is at many times very emotional and dramatic. The hallmark of this developer are scenes that become increasingly dire, with sudden climactic turnarounds à... Read more »

Err... so, "Sharin no Kuni" - a work that is considered a "Citizen Kane" of visual novel world. If VNDB is to be believed, Sharin is one of the most critically well received adult games together with FSN, MLA and FDA (well, probably not this one). Translated as "Wheel Country, Sunflower Girl", it's a dystopian sci-fi political and social commentary cross-dressing as a romantic adventure game.

There is no such thing as society.
-Margaret Thatcher

Sharin is set in a curious alternative universe where our world is but a mere fantasy portrayed in science fiction pulp novels. We know not much about this world, and the setting itself... Read more »

<report>To be honest It's a good visual novel with an interesting plot which I really liked...but at the beginning I wanted to quit it because it was one of the worst routes of visual novel history...

The game has different stories which u can't skip cuz they are linear. The first one(chapter 2) was really bad at the middle and at the end that I wanted to quit but somehow I managed to complete it.

Good music, nice plot, an interesting idea about dystopian society...the good mc. You will find everything from the list here. Would I suggest the game? The thing is it is not a bad visual novel however I am not gonna believe that I'll download the game again in my entire life so It's hard to say. I... Read more »

<report>“Syarin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo” is hard to say. Its plot is confusing or in other words, it is very hard to get the point it wants to express. Its story is a good story but the story seems to be pointless. It is not recommended to play this game if you want to read some deep thoughts about philosophy. But it is recommended to play this just to enjoy a story.

What is meant by the “Himawari”— in Japanese, it literally means sun flowers— in the title? This is very confusing in the plot. Some of the settings are inconsistent with this theme. The game is set in a dystopian world; however, a lot of details seem to show that the Imperium is actually a utopia.

Also, its political scenes... Read more »
