Description

The story mainly revolves around Edgeworth's struggle to determine the meaning of his job in relation to finding the truth behind a collection of cases. This is exacerbated when he becomes a target of the so-called "Prosecutor Purge", an inquisition conducted by the Prosecutorial Investigation Committee intended to weed out and replace prosecutors who are judged to be incompetent or acting inappropriately.

Judge Hakari Mikagami is mysteriously sent to cases that Edgeworth is investigating and attempts to replace him with a younger, less competent prosecutor named Yumihiko Ichiyanagi. Edgeworth himself risks his badge in order to continue his quest for the truth.

In the meantime, he faces a personal conflict when he meets Tateyuki Shigaraki, a defense attorney who used to be an assistant to Edgeworth's father Gregory Edgeworth and has taken over the Edgeworth Law Offices after his death. Shigaraki offers the younger Edgeworth the chance to follow in his father's footsteps and become a defense attorney.

Description

The young "genius" prosecutor of the DA's office, and Phoenix's main rival in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

Miles Edgeworth began his career as a prosecutor at the young age of 20, and in the four years since has maintained a perfect record of guilty verdicts. Seen as a snob, his condescending nature and relentless prosecution (along with rumors of evidence and witness tampering) have earned him the name "Demon Prosecutor." He despises criminal behavior, and will do anything to get lawbreakers behind bars. And look stylish doing it.

Description

<hidden by spoiler settings>
Gregory Edgeworth was a very talented criminal defense attorney and his son Miles idolized him. He was the kind of defense attorney who was not afraid to stand up against corruption. He used a calm, methodical, and logical approach to his investigations, preferring to use logic and confront witnesses directly at the scene rather than use the sorts of methods that Phoenix Wright or Apollo Justice would later use. He also had a rather serious, professional demeanor at all times, only smiling when he made a mistake and got a penalty, though it was more of a nervous grin. Miles inherited much of his father's methods, though he would come off as cold and ruthless due to his relative lack of tact.

In December 2000, Gregory took on the case of Issei Tenkai, a famous television chef. He was aided in his investigation by Tateyuki Shigaraki, a young man who idolized him. The case was would later officially become known as the "IS-7 Incident".

During his investigation into the crime, Gregory butted heads with Manfred von Karma, a legendary prosecutor with a perfect win record. As he and Shigaraki became more involved in the case, he realized that von Karma wasn't just keeping him away from the scene because he didn't want the defense gaining any sort of advance; he was actively trying to hide something. Even Tyrell Badd, the detective who was supposed to lead the investigation, was continually stymied by von Karma's authority, and he eventually decided to ally with Gregory. Eventually, Gregory was able to figure out what von Karma was hiding; the body of the victim had disappeared before an autopsy could be carried out.

During the subsequent trial, Gregory accused von Karma of hiding the disappearance of the body. However, von Karma produced a falsified autopsy report, verified by the police, and so the trial continued for a year. Eventually, Tenkai confessed to being an accomplice to the murder, but with Badd's help, Gregory revealed that the confession had been coerced. Although Gregory still lost the case, this bombshell revelation gave Manfred von Karma the only penalty on his "perfect" record, which enraged the perfection-obsessed prosecutor. The majority of the blame was shifted onto the Detective Wataru Shirase, who was subsequently fired.

After the trial, Gregory and Miles proceeded to leave the courthouse, accompanied by Yanni Yogi, a court bailiff. Gregory hoped to get a retrial for his client. However, an earthquake struck the building and shut the power down, leaving the three stranded in an elevator for five hours. Eventually, the oxygen supply diminished, and Yogi started to panic. The two men fought, leaving Miles to try and stop them by throwing Yogi's pistol, which had been loosened from the man's belt. The gun went off, hitting von Karma, who had wandered in front of the elevator door. Just then, the elevator door opened; already outraged by his penalty and in shock from his wound, von Karma picked up the gun and, finding all three of the elevator's occupants passed out, shot Gregory. Gregory Edgeworth died, never knowing who had killed him. His spirit later spoke through a spirit medium named Misty Fey, blaming Yanni Yogi for the murder.

Description

Ema Skye is Phoenix Wright's forensics-obsessed investigative partner and co-counsel in the murder of Bruce Goodman, during the events of "Rise from the Ashes" (which is not included in the 2001 Gameboy Advance release). Her older sister, Lana Skye, was arrested for allegedly murdering Bruce Goodman. Lana instructed Ema to request the services of Mia Fey, but chose Phoenix Wright instead as Mia was absent. Ema lost her parents in a car crash at a young age, so Lana is her only family. Lana raised Ema alone while pursuing her career, resulting in Ema's interest in forensics.

Ema is cheerful and optimistic. She loves science, wanting to be a forensic investigator, and is set to go into forensics in 2020. She also deeply admires both her older sister Lana, and the prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, though she isn't a fan of his office. Ema somewhat lacks in common sense; when examining Wright's desk, she claimed to be studying for a history test and she inaccurately proclaimed George Washington to be "the first king of America." She also has a tendency to write down notes in her notepad, even if they're completely irrelevant to the case at hand.

<hidden by spoiler settings>
During the events of the SL-9 Incident, Ema was waiting for Lana in her office so that they could go out for dinner. Suddenly, the serial killer Joe Darke, who had escaped from his interrogation, burst into the room. Prosecutor Neil Marshall soon came to the rescue, engaging Darke in a fight. During the struggle, Ema saw a man about to stab another with a broken knife. Thinking the attacker was Darke, Ema pushed him, knocking him out. She lost consciousness soon afterward. When she woke up, Lana was cradling her in her arms, Neil was dead, and Darke had been recaptured.

Detective Bruce Goodman interviewed Ema for evidence, but she could not remember anything clearly and was still shock from the experience. A couple of days later, she managed to draw a picture of one man stabbing another on the back of a list of the evidence used to convict Darke.

Two years after the SL-9 Incident, on the last day in court during the events of "Rise from the Ashes", Ema testified about the SL-9 Incident, and the picture she had drawn came up. Eventually, Wright found out that Lana had believed Ema had killed Neil Marshall by accident, but soon proved that Gant was the real killer in both cases and that he had blackmailed Lana with the lie that her younger sister was the killer.

Her personality underwent a dramatic shift when she failed to get her dream job in forensics, becoming much moodier than she was as a teenager and disliking talking to people unless they have something concerning forensics to discuss, otherwise, she usually ignore them. She also developed a great liking for "snackoos", spending large quantities of time vigorously munching on them and ignoring those around her. The sound of her munching became an identifying signal for Apollo Justice, and she sometimes throw snackoos at people who annoyed her.

Ema's disregard for other people extend to her coworkers. She cannot stand prosecutor Klavier Gavin, calling him a "glimmerous fop" (which Apollo always tries to correct to "glamorous" in his head). According to Skye, prosecutors should be "simmerous" and "cool of wit and furrowed of brow" (likely referring to the more serious Miles Edgeworth). She's also resentful of Klavier for what happened to Phoenix Wright, since he had been the prosecutor at the trial that caused his disbarment, and thus she held him personally responsible. Her love of forensics has not lessened however, immediately cheering up if the opportunity to implement it presents itself and sneakily investigating crime scenes when the assigned forensic investigators are not around.

Description

Manfred von Karma is a renowned prosecutor who has been undefeated for 40 years, earning him numerous "King of Prosecutors" awards. He has been Miles Edgeworth's mentor, responsible for teaching him everything about prosecuting. He is also the father and mentor of Franziska von Karma. None of his cases were left unsolved, and all of the defendants were declared guilty.

Manfred von Karma is an arrogant prosecutor who believes himself better than others, especially defense attorneys, who he saw as nothing more than annoying flies to be swatted. He is also an intimidating man who holds great sway over the courts thanks to his long win record, and he would often almost take over the judges' jobs during trials. Manfred is a great believer in perfection and demands nothing less from himself and his students. In this quest for perfection, he does whatever it takes to win a case.

<hidden by spoiler settings>
Following the penalization in the IS-7 incident, von Karma was shocked beyond belief; he had never been penalized before. The one thing he valued above all else was his perfect record.

Soon afterward, an earthquake struck the courthouse, leaving von Karma wandering in the darkness. He felt his way to an elevator and tried to use it, but nothing happened. Suddenly, a gunshot rang out and von Karma was struck in the right shoulder, causing him to utter a terrible scream. Then, the power came back on, and the elevator doors opened. To his surprise, von Karma found a pistol at his feet, along with three people lying unconscious inside the elevator from oxygen deprivation; the court bailiff Yanni Yogi, a young boy, and the man who had ruined his perfect record, Gregory Edgeworth.

When he saw that one of the passengers was Gregory Edgeworth, he picked up the gun and shot him in the heart, killing the defense attorney instantly. von Karma left the gun and fled the scene, taking a "vacation" to heal his injury from the incident. Meanwhile, the case of Gregory Edgeworth's murder, known as the DL-6 Incident, was held against Yanni Yogi, who, at the insistence of his defense attorney Robert Hammond, plead temporary insanity to escape conviction.

Six months after Gregory's death, von Karma adopted Miles, the orphaned son of the man he had killed and the third occupant of the elevator, as his own, and trained him to become a ruthless prosecutor like himself.

Five years later, Manfred von Karma sent a letter to Yanni Yogi with a detailed plan to murder Robert Hammond (whom Yogi blamed for ruining his life by making him plead temporary insanity) and frame Miles Edgeworth. His plans exposed, Manfred started banging his head against the wall of the court. He had suffered two defeats at Wright's hand, the only two he had ever received. Manfred von Karma died soon afterwards, possibly through a death sentence.

Description

Franziska von Karma is the daughter of the prosecutor Manfred von Karma and a formidable prosecuting attorney in her own right. She likes referring to others as "fools" (and variations thereof) and is known to carry a whip (a riding crop when she was younger) with her at all times, which she will often use on almost everybody she meets (although nearly all of her victims are male) with very little provocation.

Franziska von Karma is very much like her father in court; arrogant, but also unrelenting and cold, going to extreme lengths to get a guilty verdict. She likes to use her whip to assert her dominance over other people, including those who are supposed to be her superiors. One notable difference from her father is her greater tendency to lose her cool, which is similar to Edgeworth.

<hidden by spoiler settings>
Franziska von Karma learned of her father's loss to defense attorney Phoenix Wright and his subsequent conviction for the murder of Gregory Edgeworth. She also learned of Miles Edgeworth's losses to Wright and his subsequent disappearance. Franziska traveled to Los Angeles to face Wright in court; if she won, she would have beaten a lawyer that Edgeworth could not, getting her revenge for being "left behind".

Franziska believed that perfection was the only option she had. She had to be a "genius" prosecutor, although she knew that she was not really capable of the genius her father had displayed. She viewed trials and investigations as competitions, and considered defense attorneys her enemies. Thus, when she began to lose to Phoenix Wright, she lost what she believed was the meaning of her life. When Edgeworth began to talk about the meaninglessness of win records, she resisted the idea at first, but she eventually began to understand, after which she discarded her identity as a genius living under her father's shadow.

In Gyakuten Kenji, Franziska went on to assist Interpol in its investigation of an international smuggling ring.

Description

Shelly de Killer is a feared assassin who is the third heir to a line of assassins known as "de Killer" that first became known in the early 20th century. De killer performs his jobs calmly and with precision, and always leaves behind his calling card -- a white card with a pink seashell design on it -- so that the authorities know of his involvement.

<hidden by spoiler settings>
In March of 2018, the actor Matt Engarde hired de Killer to kill rival actor Juan Corrida during the Hero of Heroes Grand Prix event at the Gatewater Imperial Hotel on the 20th of that month and retrieve Celeste Inpax's suicide note, which was hidden in a Swiss bear toy. After the Hero of Heroes Grand Prix was over, Engarde met up with de Killer, who disguised himself as a bellboy, and paid him as per their contract. De Killer soon afterwards went to Corrida's hotel room and killed the actor by strangling him with his own scarf. The assassin then left his calling card, and gave Engarde the bear.

De Killer then contacted Edgeworth out of court seeking to testify, telling Edgeworth that his client was indeed Matt Engarde. The radio transceiver was brought to the witness stand, but de Killer betrayed Edgeworth and named Andrews as his client. However, Wright exposed contradictory details in the assassin's claims about his supposed client, which caused de Killer to realize what the attorney was doing and cut communications. Just as the judge was about to render a not guilty verdict, von Karma appeared with the evidence that Gumshoe had taken. Wright quickly contacted de Killer again and told him about the videotape. Realizing that de Killer was oblivious to the contents or purpose of the tape, Wright informed him of what Engarde had done.

Furious at this betrayal, de Killer broke his contract with Engarde and informed the court that, if a client willingly betrayed him, de Killer would swear bloody vengeance upon them. He then informed Wright that, since the contract was broken, he would return Fey to him.

Will is the Steel Samurai during the events of the first Phoenix Wright game. He is accused of murdering Jack Hammer, his co-star who played the role of the Evil Magistrate (Steel Samurai's archnemesis).

Powers' imposing figure belies his gentle and somewhat naïve nature, and he is extremely sensitive about the way he looks. He enjoys working with children, but always wears a mask in his acting roles so that he would not have to show his face in public and "ruin kids' dreams". Despite his friendly and kind-hearted nature, he has a tendency to be pessimistic and has a weakness for celebrity gossip.

<hidden by spoiler settings>
Jack Hammer despised Powers for being the Steel Samurai, since the kids loved him and despised the Evil Magistrate, which was Hammer's role. Because of this, he drugged Powers's lunch with sleeping pills. The plan succeeded; Powers was feeling sleepy, and went to take a nap in his dressing room. Hammer then proceeded to take Powers's Steel Samurai costume and pretended to be him by dragging his left ankle to fool the security cameras and Oldbag. His plan was to frame Powers for the events that would take place.

During the events of "Justice for All", it is revealed that he developed a crush on Adrian Andrews. He was also a witness in "Farewell, My Turnabout".

Description

Lotta Hart is a fiery-tempered photographer who appears as a witness in several of series' cases. Much of the photographic evidence in said cases comes from her.

Hart is fierce and loud, but well-meaning. She defends her secrets ferociously, but she is always willing to help Wright, just not for free. Hart is often single-minded in the pursuit of her goals and gets aggravated if she thinks people are mocking her or her homeland. Although she was a paranormal photographer at one point, she is "really bad when it comes to blood and ghosts and stuff", suggesting her want to leap into situations without forethought. Hart also has a habit of changing her job each time Wright sees her. However, it usually incorporates her photography abilities.

<hidden by spoiler settings>
Phoenix Wright's first encounter with the fiery red-head was during "Turnabout Goodbyes". She had heard about Gourdy and planned to capture a photograph of the beast. Going by an article in the local newspaper, Hart set up a camera on the shore of Gourd Lake that was set to respond to loud noises. She then pretended to be a college student taking photographs of meteor showers so as to throw off any "shutterbugs" that might try to steal her scoop.

The next time Wright encountered Hart was a year later in Kurain Village. She was a self-styled "paranormal photographer" and was in search of another big scoop. She was present outside Fey Manor's Channeling Chamber when Turner Grey was shot and dashed into the room with Wright to find what appeared to be a possessed Maya Fey covered in blood, with the dead body of Grey lying in his own blood. Hart quickly snapped a couple of photographs (despite protests from Wright) before being herded from the room by Morgan Fey.

Lotta Hart appeared at the Gatewater Imperial Hotel during the Hero of Heroes Grand Prix (in the events of "Farewell, My Turnabout") in order to get a tabloid scoop on the scandal between Adrian Andrews and Juan Corrida. She wrote a note saying that Matt Engarde had made Adrian Andrews get close to Juan Corrida keep an eye on him (as they were rivals). Wendy Oldbag, a security guard at the hotel, stole Hart's camera, and used it to take a picture of the Nickel Samurai (really Adrian Andrews) leaving the crime scene.

In Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, Hart was spotted by Miles Edgeworth and Kay Faraday during a Steel Samurai show at an embassy. Edgeworth vaguely remembered her but avoided interacting with her due to a feeling that talking to her would be very unpleasant for him. She later took a photo of the Yatagarasu apparently flying above the rose garden in the embassy.

In Gyakuten Kenji 2, three weeks after the Yatagarasu incident, Mikiko Hayami clued Hart in on a black market evidence auction going on at the Big Tower. Hart learned of a secret 51st floor above the Prosecutorial Investigation Committee meeting room, accessible only through a hatch and ladder on the viewing platform at the top of the tower. The two decided to work together on this scoop; Hart would infiltrate the 51st floor, while Hayami would use a wiretapping device to intercept wireless communications.

Since Regina was brought up at the circus, it is the only world she knows. As such, she has a very fantastical view of the world and is extremely naïve. She believes that when people die, they become "stars in the sky". She also doesn't understand that the Trilo Quist puppet was only that, a puppet. She thinks of the dummy as a tenor who sings in the circus and that the ventriloquist himself is just someone who hangs around with "Trilo".

Without realizing it, Regina often uses her looks to her advantage. Moe describes her as being "cuter than a little puppy Maltese" and people often give in to her demands with a single cutesy look from her.

By Gyakuten Saiban 2, Regina eventually began to take on more responsibilities at the circus. At some point, she hired a coworker named Sōta Sarushiro, whom she tasked with the various logistics of their shows. In 2019, the two performed an animal show at a local prison. The show involved a love story between Regent and an elephant named Dali. Sarushiro played a villainous monkey whom Dali would blow away in the climax of the story.

Matt Enguarde's polite and tight-lipped butler. He has been taking care of Matt's pet cat, "Shoe", and the Enguarde Mansion.

<hidden by spoiler settings>
John Doe is one Shelly de Killer's "covers" he had adopted in order to successfully complete his job. de Killer was using Enguarde's mansion to detain Maya Fey, until he was forced to relocate when Shoe meowed during a phone call with Phoenix (since they have met previously, Shoe's meow was a clear giveaway of de Killer's location).

During Gyakuten Saiban 2 (a year later) he assumed the disguise of an ice cream vendor. Sōta Sarushiro hired de Killer to assassinate President Teikun Ō of Zheng Fa. The assassin first tried to infiltrate the president's bodyguards by disguising himself as one. He managed to gather a good amount of information on the president's protection, including the names of the leader and sub-leader of the guards, and soon struck. Although the leader of the bodyguards, a man called Gai Tojiro, noticed de Killer, by that time the assassin had managed to get close to his target. The assassin managed to easily overpower most of the bodyguards, beginning with the sub-leader Manosuke Naitō, whom he grabbed by the throat so hard that the latter was later forced to wear a neck brace and was unable to turn his head right. Unfortunately for de Killer, Gai Tojiro proved far more formidable, as he quickly grabbed, twisted and shot the assassin's left arm. De Killer managed to escape with his wounded arm and gained respect for Tojiro's skill.

Larry is generally easy going and laid back, but shows his emotions easily. He's very trusting and a little flaky, which leads to him moving between women and part time jobs fairly regularly.

Description

A witness from Phoenix's first case.

He has a slimy personality. He can suck up a great deal, but in the end is a common thief and coward.

<hidden by spoiler settings>In Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, during one of his burglaries, Sahwit was caught in the act by the owner of the apartment, Cindy Stone. He picked up the nearest thing he could find, a clock-statue of "The Thinker", and hit her over the head with it. The clock then spoke the time, which Sahwit believed was the real time. She died of blood loss, and Sahwit decided to frame her boyfriend Larry Butz, who had visited her apartment on the day of the murder.

Sahwit was called as the sole witness to the murder. His testimony was full of holes that the new defense attorney, Phoenix Wright, could exploit, even giving testimony that contradicted his earlier statements, and he soon reached a point in which he was accused of the murder. He then switched from his sycophantic persona into his real, rage-filled nature. He flung his toupée at Wright and shouted at him that he had one final question. He said that Wright could not prove that the clock was telling the correct time at the time of the murder, but Wright - with the aid of Mia Fey - explained that the victim had gone to France the day before the murder. Sahwit broke down on the stand; he hyperventilated and collapsed. Butz was subsequently declared not guilty, Wright's career took off, and Sahwit was convicted and imprisoned.

In Gyakuten Saiban 2, For the next few years, Sahwit lived as a model prisoner and began training as an animal groomer for the therapy animals living in the prison, hoping that this would help get his sentence reduced. One day, he fell and broke his electronic prison bracelet, which would send an electric shock to prisoners who tried to enter certain rooms unattended. Because of this, he was secretly able to move about the prison as he liked. Prison warden Marī Miwa found out, but instead of punishing him or replacing the bracelet, she decided to use him toward her own ends. On a weekly basis, Sahwit would access the circuit breaker and cut the power, then return later on to restore the power. In exchange, he would be able to keep his little secret, and Miwa would give him special treatment.

Description

Desirée "Dessie" DeLite is the motorcycle enthusiast and shopaholic wife of Ron DeLite. She maintains that Ron is being delusional in thinking that he is Mask☆DeMasque. She is a major thrill seeker who enjoys taking risks and putting her "life on the line". Thus, she is happiest when her motorcycle is at full throttle. Both her and her husband share a fascination with ancient artifacts.

<hidden by spoiler settings>
Prior to meeting her husband, Desirée was abducted by two robbers in her former workplace. Ron DeLite, who was working as a security guard at the time, saved her from the two criminals. She instantly fell in love with him and soon enough the two were wed. However, Ron's pay couldn't support Desirée's shopping habits, so Ron stole and disclosed private information regarding his employer KB Security. He was caught and fired.

Ron didn't tell Desirée about his crime due to her hatred of criminals. Desperate to maintain her lifestyle in fear of her leaving him, he became a thief known as Mask☆DeMasque, something he didn't tell his wife due to her aforementioned hatred. Ron, as Mask☆DeMasque, stole more precious items, the first by himself and the rest by following plans sent by Luke Atmey who blackmailed him with his true identity to steal again and again.

Months after Ron's acquittal, the couple visited the 12 Constellations Art Gallery to admire the works of the late French sculptor Paul Holic.

Description

Ron DeLite is a flustered and nervous young man that claims to be the infamous Mask☆DeMasque, but according to his wife Desirée DeLite, he is just being delusional. He is a defendant in the Mask☆DeMasque trials.

<hidden by spoiler settings>
Ron is actually the true Mask☆DeMasque, as Luke Atmey pretended to be so in order to escape murder charges.

Ron met his wife Desirée while he was a security guard at KB Security. After saving her from two knife-wielding robbers, the pair married shortly after. Ron's pay, however, was not nearly enough to cover his wife's excessive spending. Worried that she would leave him, he attempted to steal confidential information from his employer in order to support her, but was quickly caught and fired by the company's CEO, Kane Bullard.

Desperate, Ron decided to become a thief, as he could think of no other job in the world allow his wife to continue her spending sprees, although he was all too aware of her strong dislike of criminals. He created a disguise and took on the pseudonym of "Mask☆DeMasque". For his first heist, he stole the Tear of Emanon, and then he quickly dumped his costume in the trash. However, a passing Luke Atmey spotted the costume and soon figured out Mask☆DeMasque's identity. He then began to blackmail Ron into stealing three other precious items for him: the Crown of Bongora, the Left Hand of Hades, and the Portrait of Mejeena.

Atmey's final blackmail letter instructed Ron to go to Bullard's office at KB Security. Ron dressed himself in his Mask☆DeMasque costume and did as he was told, but then Atmey, who was already in the office, knocked him unconscious. After regaining consciousness, Ron found himself alone in the room with Bullard's corpse. He decided to hide Kane Bullard's body in a safe, fearing that he would be accused of murdering the CEO. He then turned himself in as Mask☆DeMasque for the theft of the Kurain Sacred Urn, which Atmey had stolen disguised as Mask☆DeMasque.

Wright soon got his client a not guilty verdict by implicating Luke Atmey as the real Mask☆DeMasque. However, Ron was then accused of Bullard's murder. Only people who worked at KB Security knew how to unlock the safe containing Bullard's body, which cast suspicion on Ron. Eventually, Wright would prove Ron's innocence by correcting his own implication of Atmey as Mask☆DeMasque and re-implicating him as Bullard's killer. Ron, in turn, could not be charged for the Mask☆DeMasque heists by the double jeopardy law, which meant that he was allowed to walk free.

After their ordeal, the DeLites started an organization aiming to help thieves start honest lives; their slogan being: "Cut it out, PLEEEEEEEEASE!" Ironically, they also help thieves by giving them detailed plans for their heists.

Heir to a prominent family of spiritualists, Maya is Phoenix's obligatory perky sidekick during all three games.

Maya is optimistic, excitable, friendly, curious, and a fangirl for all things Steel Samurai. Like her sister she is tenacious to a fault, and very attached to "Nick" (her and her sister's name for Phoenix). Not always the brightest but loyal and outgoing.

Maya grew up in Kurain, training to be a spiritual medium. After the disappearance of her mother when she was two, and later because her sister left the village, she is destined to become the heir of her family. Though her sister left home they still remain in contact and are very close.

Maya's spiritual powers are still somewhat underdeveloped, and she has trouble calling spirits.
