<report>This was one of the first visual novels I'd ever played outside of Trace Memory and Ace Attorney, so I think I was too hard on it when I first played it for being relatively non-interactive by comparison. Now, being more acclimated to the genre, I know that things can be much worse (my favorites still heavily lean towards more gameplay-oriented VNs), so I've warmed up to it over the years. Even back when I first played it, I remembered the story being an exciting, well-written mystery with strong dialogue, a sense of ambience and strong music. If Hotel Dusk were more accessible, I'd say this VN would be a great "gateway" to the more standard types. And frankly, if you CAN find it, it's still well worth playing regardless of your familiarity with the genre. I should really play the sequel.
