Description

This story is about a young boy named Toono Shiki who, after experiencing a traumatic accident, wakes up in the hospital with the ability to see lines and cracks in every surface and being. These lines, when traced with any sharp or blunt edge, will be permanently cut. As he is forced to see these lines everywhere, Shiki is distraught until he meets a mage girl who gives him glasses that allow him to live a normal life.

Years later, after living in a relative's home, the death of his father has him summoned back to the mansion he left years ago. There he must learn to live with his younger sister and two maid girls.

One day Shiki's life takes a turn for the worse when, on the way to school, he meets a blonde woman and he's overcome with the urge to kill her.

<report>Amazing classic in so many way, it may be amateurish and imperfect but it's very worth playing, the art is really unique, this has some of my favorite music of all time, the girls are cute and each really interesting.

The plot is pretty great for the most part, get somewhat messy at times but nothing too bad.

I would absolutely recommend it but i don't expect most people to like it as much as i did, it's flawed by cause of being the first thing type-moon ever did but there is a ton to love !

<report>This vn is the definition of "flawed masterpiece". Most of its flaws come from the fact that it's really old and made with little experience, but others are actual writing flaws that prevent this vn from being a 10/10 (imo). Most of these are due to poor execution, whether it be insufficient bulid-up or excessively edgy writing. But the core of the story, as well as the characters (especially the characters) are so strong that they end up overshadowing the bad aspects. As a result, even though I wasn't having a great time reading it all the time, it still left me with a great sensation after finishing it. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, I guess.

<report>The plot and narrative are good, the concepts of the vampires pleased me for giving them a fresh air with their own interpretation, typical of Nasu, some things gave for more, like the church and Satsuki (a meme at this point). The endings are much better than FSN's, especially Akiha's, Kohaku's and Hisui's which I think are some of the best I've seen lately. Shiki as the main character works and is very good as he learns different things in each route, his characterization is simple but everything that encompasses him makes him very good, his dynamic with Roa and how it varies in each route, in short. I highly recommend Tsukihime and if you like FSN much more.

<report>Tsukihime's world of magic, vampires, and romance is beautiful and gothic in a way that few modern stories can replicate. Its sprites and backgrounds are clearly dated, and its music library pales in comparison to newer titles, but neither of these aspects hinder the experience at all. In fact, they ultimately contribute to what I consider Tsukihime's greatest strength: its atmosphere. The character interactions are interesting, and each of the routes rewards you with a different perspective on a small but complex supernatural scenario, centered on the Tohno Mansion. Its interpretation of magic is gritty, perhaps even more so than its successor, Fate, and the action sequences are climactic--and brutal.

<report>My first ever VN, I'm not a guy who gives a flying fuck wether something is old or not. I just the other day beat FF7 and I've started Castlevania SOTN. But I really did love this, I loved all of the true endings, and some of the good endings were amazing as well. I can't wait to read the remake as well Mahoyo and FSN before the end of this year.

I'd definitely recommend this to someone who loves mystery and creepy stories. One thing where the age actually contributes is the atmosphere. Both the music and the pictures (backgrounds and characters) had this really creepy vibe to them. I would not trade this as my first vn besides maybe Fate.

<report>TL;DR:
As long as you don't mind the dated graphics, PLAY IT! Its fame is well-deserved, since it's an amazing game!

Story 3/3
Routes 1-2 (Near side otM) were fun, but esp. during routes 3-5 (Far side of the Moon) my jaw dropped many times

Graphics 2/3
Has it charms, but didn't age well

Music: 3/3
↑The Ever After OST; the default Tsuki-Bako OST: 2/3

Pacing: 3/3
Didn't feel too rushed nor too slow (c.f. the snailish pace of KGNE)

Misc good points
THE WRITING! To give you an idea, a fan-made imitation: link (the comment by DavisWuhu)

Misc bad points
No voice acting
Can't auto skip already read lines
The sex scenes (apparently Nasu is famous for sucking at them)

Total play time: >50h (played the original; probably <50h if playing in English or you're a fast reader)

<report>I'd give this a ten if not for the excessive magibabble. Excellent theming, plot and characters. In standard Type-Moon fashion the novel overindulges in world-building to the point it damages the pacing, it's hard to hold it against the novel.

<report>This is but a beautiful yet an unnerving story with many paths to go through. While also a birth to the entire Nasuverse. Best OST for a VN and a great Urban Fantasy setting. Very much enjoyed. Also seeing how much has Takeuchi's art improved since this, is insane.

<report>For some reason every year, despite this novel's age and the epic release of the remake, I still find myself gravitating back to this novel if I am seeking to read something good. Whether that is to reread one of the far side routes (which should be delayed after the near side routes), to bask in the delight of Arcueid's good ending, or just to simply listen to the title screen's soundtrack while reminiscing about certain scenes in the game. There's always something for me to come back to. Although inferior in quality in terms of virtually every core aspect to TYPE-MOON's later works, I think this novel still stands the test of time as being an unforgettable classic due to its emotional, well-written storytelling, psychological thrills, and its very likable/interesting character base.

<report>This VN is without a doubt a timeless classic.
Granted, it may have a lot of issues specially in the translation to english but that doesn't make the experience bad, if anything it adds to it since it is one of the first things Nasu worked on and even after the two decades that has elapsed since it's release it still stays as one of the most important visual novel ever.
Even if it is directly because of how deep the characters are or how the atmosphere is or how well written is but because not only it semented the Nasu verse but also popularize the genre in the early days of the market making it even more special.

<report>to me it's based (8), great romance +1, great mystery +1, and one bad route -1. you know which one is bad when ur playing it because not only the main heroine of that route isn't fleshed out, almost half of the content is from the first route. even though it can be said the same for far side routes, they dont suffer from the lack of attention. im waiting for the remake tl to be released so i can enjoy the route im talking about

<report>One of my absolute favourite. In my not so humble opinion, Tsukihime is better than FSN. I contribute its brilliance not only to the storyline (nasu, you mad lad!) not only to its character design (still iconic to this day) but also to its amazing soundtrack! The soundtrack did a great job of conveying the VN atmosphere. To this day, I still think track 09 is the best VN soundtrack ever.

<report>I'm using a translator to write this, so the text is a little confusing to read.

This game is just great. I had little desire to start playing, maybe because of the outdated art, but I didn't regret starting. The dialogues are very good.
The background songs, however, were very repetitive, but I understand that maybe the studio didn't have a lot of resources to do more
and better at the time. Plus, I didn't even focus on the background music much, as the game's story was much more interesting.

I was hooked on this game from the start, as, unlike other visual novels, this one doesn't take long to show the main parts of the story. Another thing I really liked was that this vn doesn't have boring, useless and endless dialogues that I usually see in games of this genre.

<report>Arc route was mean and sexy. I did not care much about the romance but the lore and plot were straightforward and fun. I liked Arc as a char and I was satisfied.But... Ciel's route has so much backstory, lore, magic information, falling in love, psychological craziness, etc. I personally dislike the romance in this one and the Apocalyptic break-up but I cannot deny that Nasu's explanations, detailed concepts and resolutions are just mouthwatering. All characters had a purpose and I even liked Roa in this one.

I must admit Ciel got the treatment she deserved in this game. Special mention for me goes to the bgm that plays during the final confrontation between Vlov, Ciel. I believe it’s called IW and it’s on par with Myth revived and Sword of Promised Victory. Hell the whole OST is glorious.

<report>To be honest, it was really weird and sad expierience, but I enjoyed it. It's sad, that I can't censor h-scenes. I am not a horny person. Lot of routes and awesome writing. This chair is an eyesore...

<report>I can't deny that Tsukihime contains a big amount of passion. I'd only recommend reading manga, and if you're interested in the VN, have in mind that many aspects didn't age well. If you're interested because you want to see how otaku media were back, go ahead.
Only wished music were a little better
