Description

The game takes place in an urban city set in 2016 and later; for the Japanese versions, this city is somewhere in Japan, while the English localization places the games in Los Angeles, California.

The fictional future justice system is such that when a person is accused of a crime, they are immediately given a bench trial presided by a judge, a prosecuting attorney from the state, and a defense attorney that must completely prove the accused innocent of the crime. Trials last 3 days at most, due to the large number of cases that the courts must deal with; if the accused cannot be found innocent after this time, their case is consigned to a higher court. The majority of the work during a trial is on the shoulders of the defense attorney who must cross-examine the witnesses brought forth by the prosecution to find contradictions in testimony to clear their client.

The playable character is Phoenix Wright. He is a rookie lawyer fresh out of law school in the first game, taking a position at Fey & Co. Law Offices run by Mia Fey, a defense attorney that helped to acquit Wright of murder several years prior to the events of the first game. When Mia is murdered, Wright takes over the offices with the assistance of Maya Fey, Mia's younger sister, and renames the office "Wright & Co. Law Offices". The Fey family have the ability to channel spirits, which sometimes allows Maya to channel Mia's spirit for Wright to help in court. Wright develops a rivalry with prosecuting attorney Miles Edgeworth as they oppose each other in court...

<report>Literally most of this game has Phoenix getting haunted by a ghost who does his job better than him. Also that ghost apparently has the power to make people's breasts bigger.

Anyways. This game is really good. Literally one of the last things I thought would be fun for a game would be a game about law. And damn they pulled it off really well. I liked the characters and the simple gameplay loop. Case 5 adds a few odd things and makes it feel a bit tacked on. But if you liked the game, here's a new case and more.

<report>A good start to a reasonably fun series. It's not exactly filled with incredible writing or mindblowing plot twists the whole way through, but you're guaranteed a pretty good time solving murder mysteries and catching criminals.

The series is struggling to find its footing in some regards, but most of the humor is pretty on point. It's a game that knows how to be silly and when it can take itself a bit more seriously. The animations are a lot of fun, and pretty impressive given the original technical limitations of the GBA release.

I played the later release with case 5, Rise From The Ashes, which is easily the best case in the game and perhaps even the series. It's the one three-day case that really justifies its length with stellar content the whole way through.

<report>The game that started a fun series that is memorable to this day for it's playful jokes and quirkyness even to people who have never played them.

The gameplay is nothing particularly outstanding, and sometimes the choices to proceed to the next phases of each case can be a little counter intuitive (I would find myself already knowing the solution but the game is not at that part yet, and picking the wrong items because of it). Leading to times where you have to apply some trial and error to continue.

What makes it entertaining are the characters and all the interactions they have with eachother. It has a lot of memorable soundtracks that suited the game perfectly. As well as some pretty comedic moments. You get to cross-examine a parrot.

<report>Although this game is good, I always feel a little trepidation recommending this game to people, as there were a lot of changes made to the following games that improved the experience greatly. But, all that aside, the writing is good, and this is probably the most "grounded" game in the series (in other words, the supporting characters aren't *all* wacky, absurd caricatures). A good mix of drama and comedy, and very worth playing.

<report>I'm not too sure what to put here, like most, this was my first real introduction into VNs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney definitely feels more like a game which also feels like the direction VNs should head if I may be so bold. That gameplay certainly synergizes with an overall derivative story and without it would feel like a long running TV crime series episode. However, that is how it should be and what is delivered is an engaging experience. The final mystery is also by far and away the best stuff in the series.

I can't really separate Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney from playing with a good friend of mine and because of that also highly recommend playing this with other people if you can. I did it over a discord call and I'm so glad we had the patience to align our schedules.

<report>For those who don't know, this game is referenced in memes so often because it has really good story and characters. Godot arc was especially touching.

Evidence search stage may get tricky, I dropped the game the first time because I got stuck on the studio episode and did not know where to go. But after few years I just watched the series walkthrough on youtube and it was still real interesting even though I did not experience finding the answers myself.

<report>Kind of slow at the beggining, but man does it pick up quickly. Lovable characters, a good mix between wackiness and genuine intrigue, and the final case is as hype as it gets. Gumshoe deserves a better salary

<report>It's good, but for the most part i don't really like detective games, so while i can see it's one of the best of it's genre, i was unable to solve most of the case and had to rely on guide, making me bored a lot of the times, as i said, i'm just no into this kind of games so it's more on me than the game.

Great character design and model, love the different over the top facial expression.

Great music, good user interface.

Characters aren't interesting and that's a shame.

If you like detective game you'll like it.

<report>Though this game really shows it's age with some odd writing choices here and there, as well as a very unmemorable cast, Ace Attorney 1 is still a fun game to play through, and is a great start off to the series. The extra 5th episode raises this game a bit higher.
