<report>I'm one of the handful of people who thinks Danganronpa 2 was a downgrade from Danganronpa 1, though not by too much. It was an improvement from the original in some aspects, and it fell short in other aspects.

The main characters of DR2 like Hajime and Nagito are a significant improvement from Makoto and Byakuya, but the heroine Chiaki is a big downgrade from Kyoko. The game has higher peaks than DR1, but hits very low lows unlike DR1 and is far from consistent. Characters like Nagito are some of the best in the series but the majority of the other characters are underdeveloped dead-weights, and this pattern applies to not just the cast, but the plot & mysteries as well. The tropical island setting is a lot less effective in terms of atmosphere than a closed off school.

<report>It’s not very novel as a danganronpa game, but it’s incredibly good at being a sequel for something that never needed to have one. A masterclass at understanding why and what for a sequel is, even if it doesn’t deliver much new in terms of theming from the original.

<report>It's like the first one, the murder mysteries got better, the overall plot is less interesting. The characters in general are more well written, which made some conflicts more interesting. The game seems to be way more "lightly", for me is going in the wrong direction, it needs to be more creepy.

<report>It's Danganronpa 2, so if you're playing this you should know what gameplay to expect. The story isn't mindblowing but the cases are fun to solve and you'll feel like a real smarty pants when you figure out how many sides a Pentagon has. There are flaws and it's not sticky enough for me to put it with the greats, but it's good and well executed.

<report>I remember getting addicted to this game, it's really creative and fun all the way through. 2-1 was a perfect subversion of expectations, 2-2 was good but also felt like it dragged, 2-3 is uhh....cancer, 2-4 was difficult (especially with the fucking Othello part) and overall really good, 2-5 is one of the best written things I've seen...period and the final case is probably the most pseudo bs out of all them. Side stuff kind of dragged, but the main course is something I recommend everyone try at least once.

<report>Danganronpa 2 was better than the original in so many ways...but in just as many ways, it was so much worse. DR2 had a much more "normalized" cast - no character was anywhere near as annoying as the worst characters of DR1...but also, no character was anywhere near as interesting. The setting of a tropical island instead of a locked-down high school is really at odds with the murder mystery genre it wants to be a part of. The map gets obnoxiously large by the end of the game, and the final twists are just like...You've gotta be kidding me. I don't know. I was less annoyed by this game than the original, but it's safe to say that I was also less-impressed by the best parts.

<report>Everything I've said about the first one can be applied to DR2 which is why I've rated them the same, sadly I won't be playing DR3 anything soon but I might check out a let's play. The only noticeable difference is that this VN has better gameplay at the cost of an even more absurd plot.

<report>Way better than the first game, and the objectively best Danganronpa game. The characters are amazing and the trials are filled with twists. Binge read it in one week and then replayed it once again while raw translating every line to my little sis and then proceeded to get every achievement on Steam so I can say, this game is good. Ignore the fandom and the bad reputation it has, most of those fans haven't even played the game anyways.

<report>The thing about DR2 is that, that first half can be considered boring - it's not bad, but it's just more of the same as in DR1. The real fun begins with case 4 which is very unique, and well done at the same time, case 5 is my favorite from all danganronpa series. And climax, the case 6 holds an amazing plot twist, that was slowly built up from the very beginning.

<report>Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is a Visual Novel developed by Spike Chunsoft.

Danganronpa 2 is a sequel to the original Danganronpa game taking place in the all new Jabberwock Island, it has a new cast of wacky and fun characters that you get to know! It's a pretty solid sequel although it felt kinda rushed and low quality. First of all, you know how in the first game you could move around the school. Well, in this game, you walk sideways, well only when you're trying to get to new rooms. I think they did this due to the PS Vita's graphical capacities but OH MY GOD not being able to explore the whole island sucks. Instead, you have to enter a "zone" (like for example a dorm) and then you can move around. When I bought this game, I expected that I'd have to explore a TON!

Good sequel tho

<report>It can either be better or worse compared it its sequel.

It has more good characters like Tanaka Gundam and aNagito. It also gave me some intense shocks at the beginning enough to make me dream about it. But it's less influential to me and I didn't like the twist in the end and the very Ending itself. I had a lot more questions

<report>Danganronpa 2 is a mess.

There are a few parallels with the first game, which are explicitly noted yet never actually go anywhere. Beyond that, DR2 does not feel like a game that was made by people who learned from the first game.

It repeats the same mistakes of its predecessor in spades; the amount of tropey anime fanservice scenes has increased exponentially, the endless rambling about hope and despair has somehow become more incomprehensible, the comedy even more inconsistent. Some of this can be attributed to the large tonal shift: rather than a claustrophobic academy, the setting of this game is an idyllic tropical paradise. One would think that the juxtaposition between this... Read more »

<report>Danganronpa 2 is everything good from Danganronpa 1 ramped up to maximum overdrive: the story is stronger, the characters are better, and the murder cases are more complex and interesting than ever. While some would argue that the claustrophobic environments of Hope's Peak provided a better atmosphere than Jabberwock Island, I disagree. A killing game on an island evokes great memories of the original Battle Royale novel by Koushun Takami, and showcases why both this game and that novel are great thrillers. The thing that keeps me on edge in a Danganronpa game is the knowledge that somewhere, someone I know just died - massacred by another person whom I also know, and I am completely... Read more »

<report>Danganronpa 2 builds on its foundation of predecessor unfortunately it fails to deliver anything new or to avoid the same mistakes of the first game.

If you like the first game you will like this one as well. It's more or less the same game with new characters and trails.

This game follows the same structure - it means you will be introduced to new rooms which you will investigate for the first time. Afterwards you will get a free time where you can spend time with your friends. Then usually something happen which will put a doubt into your mind and shortly afterwards there will me a murder where you will investigate and class trial begins. This will happen 5 times until you finally move... Read more »

<report>I enjoy the aspect of the game where everyone is paranoid and you're trying to solve murders. Then my character made friends with someone, which apparently gives me her knickers, and then she's murdered, so we're wandering around with a collection of knickers from dead girls.

I mean, I just can't even...

It also has the same tedious present grind that was in the first game because the development team apparently don't understand how odds work. Solve a case? Get 100 coins. Then put them in a machine one-by-one (because that's how you maximise your return), with a full animation every time, to get the items you'll need to increase your relationship status with people. Solving a case was... Read more »

<report>(This review has been originally published in June 2020)

In reality, I have played the sequel to "Danganronpa" a few years ago, but never got around to writing a review for it. Recently, with an intention to finally play the third part of the trilogy, I have reacquainted myself with the game and decided to write a post regarding it.

"Danganronpa 2" is the middle part in the trilogy (not counting a side action title), thus a review of it will inevitably have mild spoilers for the first part, though I will try to minimize them. And thus, without further ado, I invite you to attend the Hope's Peak academy once more... Wait, what?!

As you probably remember, Hope's Peak fell at the end of DR1... Read more »
