Description

The story centers around Fuminori Sakisaka, a medical school student involved in a vehicle accident that claimed the lives of both his parents and left him with critical injuries.
He was rescued by experimental brain surgery that coincidentally altered his perception of the world dramatically.

Everything now seems to be composed of slimy intestines and gore to him. In addition, the rest of his senses: touch, hearing, smell, and taste, are also impaired, similar to his sight, further damaging his mental health.

Fuminori's desire to live dwindles, and one night, while still in the hospital, he contemplates suicide. However, a girl in a white dress named Saya appears before him. Compared to the horrible surroundings, she looks completely normal, if not downright gorgeous. Fuminori soon falls in love with Saya, and she becomes his raison d'être.

As time passes, Fuminori gets increasingly secluded from the rest of his normal life as he embarks on a mission to find a specific person Saya is looking for. Fuminori's friends and doctor get more concerned as he acts strangely over time. Nonetheless, they will soon cross paths, for better or worse...

<report>Overall, the best thing about Saya no uta is disturbing content and atmosphere. This game offers superb atmospheric experience and I couldn't stress it enongh. However, with the short length, it affect the development of the story. Things seems to escalate really quickly. It could've been so much better and impactful if the story takes more time. With that being said, I absolutely recommend reading it. There's a reason why a classic is a classic.

<report>There's not much to say that hasn't already been said, but I'll point out one simple fact about Saya no Uta and why it might be the most ''perfect'' visual novel of all time.

There's many VN's that outshine Saya no Uta in their individual categories, but none of them have this simple trait - length. Saya no Uta achieves everything it sets out to do in the span of one or two sittings, making it the perfect VN to read alongside someone who might not even be aware of VN's. (I've done two start to finish sessions with different friend groups and it's been a joyous experience.)

It's a short read that gives you everything you could want without asking for a 100 hour investment. It's THE go-to novel to recommend when starting with this medium, despite it's content and leaves you fulfilled.

<report>A legendary visual novel, horror masterpiece, it's haunting, tough provoking, and truly remarkable.

Great art, both for the gross and scary horror or the chara design, saya is a 10/10.

Writing is amazing, gen urobuchi, enough said.

Some amazing ost, unsettling but that i still listen to regularly years after reading saya no uta.

Really recommended, a true experience !

<report>Coming off of reading something longwinded and technical (Mememasa) Saya no Uta was just the little tonic I needed.

It has fun alternating endings, the character voices of the meat monsters are great, it is a simple story without traditional protagonists or antagonists, yet it still gave me a couple of fun, chilling, existential thoughts without being super depressing.

The gore/H stuff is fun but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the AA version. This is a classic for good reason. I rate it an 8 because other, longer VNs have given me more of an emotional journey; but for what it is--something of its size--Saya no Uta is close to perfect.

<report>Absolutely grotesque, disgusting, and repulsive. Yet there is beauty and love in its form.

Mix Lovecraftian nightmares, body horror, rape, and brain wash and you will get Saya no Uta.

10/10 I don't want to play this ever again.

<report>Talk about a bizarre adventure, I feel like the beauty of this Lovecraftian love story it's the main thing pushing it into the top tier. I still can't bring myself to give it a 10 due to certain plot contrivances, if you hate that old trope in horror movies where supposedly intelligent characters walk to their death like sheep to the slaughter then SnU will frustrate you at times. Personally I think all three endings are fitting, the soundtrack was very relaxing and the H-scenes were like a cute puzzle of sorts that'll no doubt make you ponder the 'mechanics' of the whole thing.

Lengthwise you can easily 100% it in 2-3 sessions even if you're a slow reader.

<report>Probably one of the most strangest pieces of fiction I have consumed in all my life. Don't get me wrong though if your someone who doesn't easily get put off by grotesque and utterly bizarre situations, then I couldn't recommend this visual novel enough. Just be prepared for a truly unsettling experience, at least that's how it was for me anyway.

<report>The story follows a man's fixation on the one girl who brings normalcy to his world after he suddenly starts seeing everything as grotesque and fleshy. Of course, there is gore, but there is also sexual violence and depraved themes which might be off-putting to a lot of people. I only recommend reading Song of Saya if you have a high tolerance for that sort of content, but if you do have that tolerance, then you'll be happy to find that it serves a valuable purpose to the story rather than just being for shock value.

<report>Saya no Uta accomplishes something truly impressive within the medium: An unforgettable, disgustingly beautiful love story. The plot is tight and well-paced, but the story, beyond how it is told, touches the heart in unexpected ways, but also in the expected ways. The storytelling allows your imagination to wander, and I always love that. Nothing beats what our brains can possibly come up with. Sweet dreams.

<report>Be wary of the content within because the themes and scenes shown are extremely hardcore and taboo, but this is one of the things I will ever read in my lifetime. Nitro-plus are geniuses. 10/10

<report>Saya no Uta isn't a "perfect" game, as nothing is, but as a piece of art there is nothing that makes you feel so nauseous, horrified, empty, and ultimately at the beautiful bottom of the ocean as Urobochi's works. Fuminori immediately sucks you in as relatable with his misanthropy if you've ever made a realization such as his, and from there you find yourself also hating his friends and doctors. Until they need to be friends of course.

The only real problems for me are as follows:
* By the end, Saya and Fuminori do wear out a bit of their welcome and earn their fates. Both final endings still endear them to me.
* Some of the sex scenes, while fulfilling their various purposes, go on for just a smidge too long to the point that I can imagine Urobochi with a chub. Bad.

<report>This is a rough one, I feel like this visual novel is a very love or hate one.

I can appreciate its strong points, with things not being as they seem. It does a good job of painting a picture in your mind of various horrible things. The music was good too. It's a pretty unique kind of setting that deserves credit for sure. I just wish that were expanded on a bit more.

I was not interested in any of the characters, there was a general lack of common sense in the plotlines that took the immersion out of it for me as well.

In the end to me its a bit of a mixed bag, try it out you might love it or hate it. for me it was ok but that's it.

<report>You live in a meat world, but you're not meat. You walk among disgusting piles of filth and rot that sometimes tries to talk to you, those gargling and bubbling sounds almost sounds like human speech if you listen hard enough. You struggle to hide your disgust, but there is one thing in this world keeping you relatively sane.

A very romantic story. Heroine is pretty cute too. Some tough shit happens tho. Some insane people made all ages version to get extra 5 dollars from underage shits, story be damned.

I give it 2 0000 out of infinity.

<report>This gave me ptsd. Like actually. This is such a hellscape of a visual novel. It's depressing, horrifying, and possibly enough to make most people with a light stomach throw up or have nightmares. I personally though. See the real meaning here that is meant to be taken away from it. Aside from the copious amount of un-needed sex scenes and other... stuff. This is VERY good.

<report>This is the greatest Mindf*** Visual Novel of all time IMO, with an excellent atmosphere, incredible story (Its story is sad, fascinating, disgusting, tons of different emotions and almost all at the same time), and an awesome twist of the ''beautiful heroine" archetype, and it achieves all that within a less than 4 hours total playing time to boot. a short VN to be finished in a night that you don't intend to sleep in, as it would ensure that ;).

PS: I have a friend that I recommended this game to, and he literally quit in the middle of the very first scene of the game! Not even exaggerating here. He saw the 1st scene and "nope"d out in the middle of it because he was so disturbed by it. and he knew going in that it was a mindf*** game even! Kept teasing him about that one for awhile ;).

<report>There are some aspects where Saya no Uta shines very brightly, and others where it falls rather flat. It won’t get much praise for its story nor characters, but the overall atmosphere is built extremely well, and despite its faults, I found myself completely absorbed to the VN while reading it. I think the subjective experiences will vary more than average with this one, and I’ve seen people claiming this to be both the best and worst VN they’ve read.

<report>Feeling obligated to review my favorite VN on this site. It’s stereotypically just a beginner’s guide into effedupgames, but I was engrossed in the plot and characters. I don’t think it’s the darkest VN, really, but it doesn’t have to be if it has a good story—and this does. Everybody here has mentioned that, so I won’t go on. It’s a good way of using H-scenes for plot, amazing voicework, disturbing visuals… what more can I say. Well, I could add that I’m shocked there isn’t more media based on this VN. Even Tsui No Sora’s first installment had an OVA. This has potential to be the greatest OVA based on a visual novel, and yet— oh well. Anyway, Ryoko is best girl, bye

<report>I mean you know what you're getting into from the first frame. Nice and short, for a vn at least. I would've enjoyed some more context on the events unfolding before me however the lack of going very in depth keeps it moving at a fast pace. Nothing overly gratuitous I feel at least visually but if you're squeamish the first panel is a good litmus test.

<report>This is my first ever VN i really attempted to try and like. I never was fond of VNs, thought of it as a waste of time when i could just watch anime.

Maybe using this as my first VN was a horrible mistake that would make the bar of my expectations too high for the later VNs i would want to try, but all i know is that this is a really good VN. I enjoyed every moment i went through. I really recommend this to anyone that have a knack against gore and horror.

<report>Short but sweet visual novel carrying a backlog of mysteries waiting for the reader to unravel. Behind the gruesome world it presents, we get to experience a romantic story unlike any others. Its hard to decide which is in the right and that what makes it beautiful. The small development of every character through out the story is well written for its own runtime. An overall awesome experience in a Lovecraftian world with a thrilling mystery.

<report>I'm still thinking a lot about what I really think of Saya no Uta, let's just say it was a very... different experience than usual. I refuse to quantify, it's a story I wouldn't recommend to a person who is sensitive, but if you don't mind things that cause discomfort, give it a try.

<report>Really frankly, brutal, but interesting and unique VN. Not really long, you'll be done in one, maybe two days.
Somewhat unpleasant to read sometimes, because of some specific topics.
Unique art stile, grotesque and viscous OST.
If you don't scared by the Gore tag, than check that out. It's pretty popular for some reason, I don't know, maybe it's really that good as people think, but I think uniqueness is the only VNs strength. Just like Doki Doki, but more straightforward. Still better then DDLC for sure.

<report>Grotesquely interesting, it pulls you in with its absurdly vivid artwork and throws you for a loop through its subtle psychological horror. Overall, the Song of Saya is an incredible experience, with or without the adult content. I recommend it to anyone with the courage to try it out for themselves.

<report>Great hook and atmosphere but all the sexual stuff felt unnecessary and kinda ruined the experience for me, totally took me out of it. But when there was no sex it was really good. So at least there's that.

<report>Eh man it's aiight,

Saya is definitely a product of it's time and you can tell Urobuchi hadn't found his stride yet. Side characters (Yoh in particular) receive close to zero characterization and are ultimately wasted. A lot of tell don't show is implemented. They do be having sex a lot for whatever that's worth. Broski could of at least used a cipher to encode his notes what is he a 5 year old? (6/10)

<report>The game starts out strong and really caught my attention with its interesting premise but at some point the plot just devolves into some non-sensical shit. Especially, the rape and slavery was random as fuck. The endings range from dogshit to average but none of them redeem it.

<report>Urobutcher, at his most self indulgent. Terribly written cosmic horror, with few redeeming qualities which are overdone by the time the credits roll, thus killing any possible, positive effect they could have on the reader. Edgy Shlock at its most excess.

<report>Timeless classic with major philosophical themes. Ignore people who say "oh its loli/cp", the 18+ parts are not the main point of the story and can be ignored fully with the steam version. Fully worth the money on sale and perfect for people looking to enter into the world of vns with a short story.

<report>If you get this recommended as "extreme" or "brutal" dont even touch it, its simply boring af.
The plot is the definition of mid, it has a fun twist but thats about it. Its short and theres like no depth to it, a slightly more edgy version of some lovecraft short story. Do not waste your time if you are looking for gore or eroguro or whatever this tourist attraction aint it chief.

OVERRATED/10
