ReviewWhile everybody was building shrines for the forest of sukebe elves, a more interesting event was taking place right next to it: Mogudan was given the chance to draw for a big player. For those who don't know the guy, he illustrates the covers of Comic Unreal with the same girl since its very beginning, in 2006. He is also obsessed with Evangelion, drawing, yes, the same doujinshi over and over again as well. Seeing him coming back to the visual novel world after leaving it for seventeen years (!), for no less than a brand as popular as Waffle, was quite a delightful surprise.
It was also clear from the beginning that Waffle had something ambitious in mind: create a new license that would, maybe not replace Kyounyuu Fantasy, but at least let it breathe. It is clear as of today, more than three years later, four big games and them going full gachacrap (not providing a link to this garbage), that they indeed put a lot of faith in this new license.
The first installment when announced promised fantasy, knights, tentacles, wars, intrigues... and knights!

There was something to be excited about, right?

The truth is... it needs to be said... here it comes... this game... this game... is A FUCKING MAHOU SHOUJO GAME!

The moment you see the bad first minister (no spoiler, where there is a first minister in a fantasy setting, there is a traitor lusting after the throne) crawling in his den to invoke the first obstacle for Cecily, obstacle which will be called... ☆☆☆XENOBAT☆☆☆, the moment you feel something definitely ain't right.

Eden's Ritter has nothing to do with what you could have expected from a traditional fantasy setting. They truly don't give a heck about knights even though the title means knight in german. There is technically one, Noein, but she is just a mahou shoujo with a sword.

Cecily henshin, she flies, she spends her time yelling attacks and jabbering religious incantatory mumbo jumbo. She has a code name (Ritter Lucifer). No one recognizes her even though she has no mask (Sailor Moon level 2 of proposapagnosia). The bad guys disappears in thin air when she kills them (please a C rating for my dark porn game). The sect is called Xenobyte and the monsters have related names (XenoSomething) a kitschy sentai series wouldn't be ashamed of.
Its main fetish is tentacles.
The final fight with the kids who share their inner force is a freaking sentai show in a theme park, no less.

Even the structure is one from a fucking mahou shoujo game :
They send Xenobat. He rapes Cecily then choice 1: bad ending; choice 2: by the power of kindness and fanaticism she overcomes it and 0-1 for Cecily. You pretty much know where this is going. It's a monster of the week show, although there is no week between each monsters, no, it's like a marathon of 63 episodes of Minky Momo. You won't like it because it's freaking boring. New monster appears, a long battle ensues with hyperactive tachie and bim bam boom effects, because, you know, even though it's 18+, which mean you are supposed to be cured from your 2nd year muppetry, well, we love our battles, right? Even if said battle has not a trace of suspense in it, we gotta have the same battle for each enemy, right? The same battle leading to the same choice leading to a bad ending or a win leading us to square one, right?

There is really nothing more to this game than that. So, if you had Kyounyuu Fantasy in your mind while starting this one, thinking it would surprise you with a good plot (a nice plot despite the fact it becomes repetitive after they pulled the same trick for the third time), you will be seriously disappointed (and I personally was).

I really have no words to tell you how awful the script written by Smash Panda is. On top of the duplicated structure till the end, the interstices are filled with incredibly appalling dialogues and events. Cecily is a merciful fanatic so everything she says has something to do with fate, and the other one is a knight with a stick up her ass so everything she says is about honor. The inanity of this whole exercise in padding is painful to read.
Like there is no people in this game apart from extras, the only semblance of interaction is between these two caricatures. For want of philosophical dissertations on the meaning of life, they decided to make them in love with each other, for us darkge readers to appreciate awkward fluffy pyjama parties and love talks as dry as their religious/loyal individual talk. With not a single shred of sincerity in these two playmobils' relationship, you finally understand that this was just a way for the writer to insert some lesbian scenes in the middle of the game. Seriously, can you be more undark??

I played Kyounyuu Fantasy a long time ago, now like everybody else thanks to MG, 'cause I wanted to know what Waffle was up to but I never found the will to try one of their dark nukiges like Yabai!. One reason was I felt Waffle wasn't up to the task of writing dark nukiges and I was right, at least for this one. Their games are really gorgeous, but, and maybe for that reason, when it comes to deliver the dark stuff they suck asses without a straw. The Xenomonsters... -__-... are great, I mean, fabulous design, but all the scenes are more or less meh. Xenoslug? No visquous slug sex, just mini slug crawling over her body. Xenoarachne? Best ennemy of the game? Milking orz orz orz and go buy my DLC if you want more (well, GFY Waffle > yes, I didn't read ShiraVN's release which includes this spin-off, lucky you). Xenocorn (no, not a Xeno popcorn, a Xeno unicorn)? Better, slim dick for a horse though and what an annoying character ruining everything with his big annoying mouth. Xenohydra? Waffle all over again with suckling orz orz orz, and penetration... with the bump on their head... how can you suck like this, Waffle? Etc. etc. The "dark" content of this game is pretty lame. At the exception of a "dislocation" sequence, nothing in this game is really that violent or disgusting.

A part of why it sucks is because it is a tentacle game, meaning that every h-scene must be thematically tied to tentacles, even if it doesn't work like for the hydras, or something else would have been better than riding a giant tongue waiting for moving tubes. For a game, to feature such a variety of monsters but always coming down to using tentacles, this is disappointing.

The only thing worth saving is that the production value of this nukige is impressive. Any CG of this game might be worth displaying as a wallpaper on your desktop. The level of detail on everything is mind-blowing, even on the nobodies like the halberdier and the commander at the very beginning. Just look at this armor! It is really weird to see detailed tachies for "random women and men", though. Anyway, a lot of time was spent on every character and monster and it shows.
This game is really a feast for the eyes and my boy Mogudan didn't disappoint (yeah, yeah, the other guy, what's his name, again? ah, yeah, Q-Gaku from the Kyonyuu Fantasy fame too, alright).

Random details: while their tachie are huuuge, they have this bad habit of zooming on them to the point that they become pixelated and I think you see some of them more often in that state than with a proper resolution, which is a waste of good assets.
The bad endings really need post mindbreak epilogues (ex: how she is converted into a nursery by Xenoslug).
The orcs' voices... lmao.
Same, the two seiyuus so can't yell their attacks... their work is certainly not worth of praises but it's hard to blame them for that as their lines are really not inspiring.

Final words: I don't have to tell you that I will most likely not be part of that long travel if it's going to be this boring and repetitive. It's a pretty game with lame h-content.
It is also not the successor of Kyounyuu Fantasy in any way because it simply has no compelling story, or story at all beyond the game over rape mahou shoujo cliché it is.
