Review | The Arrogant Kaiju Princess is an unsuspecting Visual Novel, not to discount the main course of its selling point, but it’s an unexpected component. The story is not half bad; it has its entertaining moments, though it’s purely a fun one. The misspellings and weird scattered grammar does leave you questioning. Mainly, the quality and morality of the whole excuse/premise to have non-consensual relations. Nonetheless, the art is simply phenomenal paired with the live 2D. The producer (Nadrums) masterfully showing us his decade of experience in animating. It’s impressive, the outfits and every moving part is a beauty to behold. The game does give you what you’re looking for in this genre of hentai. Which is typically a cesspool of low quality games holding onto dear life with their gimmick of the *sexy*. (Beyond this point it’s mostly a rant so beware) Starting off, the story deviates from your traditional low effort game by having an actual protagonist, referred to as *Protagonist*. Yay... While his master, Daigneux exercises agency as a character, given she gets tricked, so It’s muddy, though her character is a general boon to the premise and goes beyond her superficial looks. Probably helps that her Tsundere nature is what adds to the fun factor. to quote the dev: The tsundere is what makes her really cute! (lol) -Nadrums Other characters make an appearance, which only emerge in their respective chapters. Considering they do show up later. Though they seem more like after thoughts or stragglers who serve as plot devices. Contrasting this, the Protagonist and Daigneux take center stage. I find this to be a missed opportunity since the other girls don’t ever interact with Daigneux, mostly by indirect mentions of building her statue or not at all. As for Daigneux only her complaining about the protagonist spending too much time outside with the “ants” being the only real acknowledgement. Truthfully I think I know the reason behind this. It’s probably due to a lack of resources (The dev being in debt) and the added complexity of the character’s mingling with each other. Another weird choice would be the option to hide the Protagonist’s face (Which was added as a later update). In other words his battle between being a self insert or an actual character makes his whole autonomy strange. I’d argue he’s more of a person within the story, but his flip flopping fails to serve as a hollow shell for you the player and be in service of the story. Clashing into a confused mess of a story. Still, I’m fascinated by the game’s development, along with this being a sequel to the first game which I haven't played. From what I experienced in the game, it’s not necessary for you to have had prior contact with its predecessor. The story explains the ramifications of the first game or its connection which is a fleeting mention. Anyways… The game has 6 themed sexy shrek scenes with our Daigneux which is themed around: -Ninja -Dictator -Elf -Qipao -Furry… -Succubus I will admit that I like the first 3 due to how they up the ante and take into consideration Daigneux character and build upon it. The gracious animations ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Which would make the Mid game the highlight for me. These 6 also mirror the individual scenes with each of the leaders, though they’re not that same and end up being a formality. Which is to say they’re boring, not doing out of want and pleasure, but ritual. I don’t have a problem with them except the last 3. Both with Daigneux and the leaders. To start, the Qipao one begins with the protagonist breaking the leader’s chastity and “teaching” her a lesson due to her being the only real initial antagonist. A bit crude. Later with Daigneux, the only thing going for the encounter is the lingerie and outfit fitting the theme. Which basically stagnates and fails to up the baseline quality where the last one left off. Speaking of which the first Ninja scene was hilarious due to Daigneux personality shining through and the protagonist teasing her for it. Gaslighting her into the situation with her needing to pass a series of “Ninja” tests while holding a riske pose while the protagonist has his way with her. The leader one isn’t that good, due to her lacking any character, basically ending up as an uncomfortable ordeal for both. The leader relying on an aphrodisiac to get in the mood. The second encounter involves Daigneux punishing the protagonist for not spending enough time with her, thanks to his efforts towards the conquest. Daigneux uses him for her own pleasure while denying his. Fitting the theme of a dictator in a sense. As for the leader's side of things, it’s ok. The only weird detail is that the Protagonist’s excalibur is drawn like an elongated twig. I don’t think there’s any better way to say it. For the third one, it doesn’t follow the “cosplay” or theme. Daigneux is in an elf outfit, but it turns into a childish competition to see who yields first in a 69 position. In other words, who reaches climax first. Which surprisingly is quite erotic, though that might be my bias speaking. The main dish here being Daigneux’s enormous ego being showcased and contrasting with the situation in a petty battle of pride. The leader version is rather unusual with the protagonist not really doing the ritual. He simply assists the leader in polishing her clam. That’s after he’s made to wait outside her quarters for a few hours. The elf having overdosed on a drug to get it over with, which inadvertently backfires with her having too much fun playing single-player. Now. The furry… or Orc, she’s more of a fox person, but she looks a bit on the younger side of things which further sours the *ritual*. The scene with her in terms of animations is static. She just bounces around like a lifeless doll, with the protagonist rightfully disliking the whole travesty of continuing the laughable rituals he’s done until now. Sadly he starts enjoying it which is where I weep. Daigneux scene is rather not on topic also, she just wears some Middle east inspired & fox earrings garb and the scene is nothing special. The only novelty being that she’s in “heat” literally and here she’s drawn a bit weirdly, which is one of the two artistic inconsistencies through the gorgeous artwork. Now, finally the succubus which is just Daigneux repeating the dictator scenario. Without the theming. rather a flat out missed opportunity to take her shapeshifting powers into consideration. Like the protagonist could’ve liked a smaller bosom on her and Daigneux would have had to go away with hers to “please” him. Making her Ego further hurt and shatter to not fail as a succubus. The only succubus part being her desire to have him as her personal twisted definition of a queen while she flaunts how she’s in control. Controlling and varying the speed of her collection process. The leader version this time doing away with the ceremony which I would applaud but it turns into her getting paraded around while being shamed with a vibrator. It follows the format of the previous ceremonies/rituals, which is quite static by now, with the illustration being the worst one visually and inconsistent. I personally feel like the resources were wasted on her due to her short appearance and revealing that she was simply a red herring of the final antagonist, being an AI. Which I find a tad lame. I will give props that the last 2 outfits have Daigneux’s oyster on immediate access, specially for a certain minigame where you need to remove her clothes manually before going at it. Which is a thematic nod at how the story progresses which I find somewhat cool. Overall, I feel like a degenerate going in detail about this game. The story is surprisingly competent and has a semblance of cohesion. The selling point is validated in its early stages. Making sense due to the effort of the writing and visuals complementing each other. I’m looking forward to the sequel or Kaiju Princess 2 as I hope the dev is able to have ample time to have a better translation. Plus the improvement of the writing of the sexy shrek encounters. Researching this game and the dev has been an interesting journey. Thanks for reading. Here’s the letter that the producer wrote, which makes for an enthralling read. (Mainly if you’re interested in the development or history of the game:) link |
