Review | I really enjoyed 4/7 routes including the common route. Maybe due to having four writers, the writing is quite inconsistent between routes. One route was so slow, it felt like they dragged the whole plot. Some routes were so engaging, I binged the whole route in one day. On a positive note, the game did a great job at sprinkling suspense aspects throughout their routes, making me want to continue to play to uncover more about these mysteries. Another aspect I loved was the amount of foreshadowing it done throughout the entire game. Some were met with great revelations, others were left unanswered (or at least not clearly answered). There were a few that even left me scratching my head. Nonetheless, it was a joy playing through these events and coming up with wild theories. Although I would still categorize this as a plot heavy game, there were plenty of romance scenes that made me doubt my decision. Ultimately, the lack of romance scenes in two routes, along with the truth route that didn’t have much fan service sealed the deal that this is more plot heavy. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the romance in several routes. Various types of romance were portrayed, from pure innocent love to an intense love with the enemy. Sometimes my heart was fluttering from a cute interaction, or I felt the tenseness from a confrontation. Being able to feel a wide range of emotions is my biggest enjoyment in this game. Similarly to the plot, the romance writing was also inconsistent between routes. One route was super light on romance, while another route had romance that felt too platonic to me. I thoroughly enjoyed the romance in four routes. In terms of its endings, the game put an emphasis on their revenge and triangle endings before the release. As someone who didn’t have much expectations, I was utterly surprised with the variety of these endings. Each character has a best end (dawn end), revenge end (clown end), and triangle end (maze end). I pretty much enjoyed most of these endings. They were fun, creative, and definitely hit home at its “targeted theme”. Below will be more thorough thoughts on individual routes, minor spoilers will be included, no major plot reveals though. Alfred’s route: The majority of the route had a very slow pace. The revelation was underwhelming. Romance was very light and minimal. I honestly couldn’t understand why they fell in love. Alfred is still a likable character and I have nothing against him. Endings were all satisfying. Lucas’s route: I loved everything about this route! The plot focused more on the background of Lucas. It was so fun and engaging to learn about him. It felt like peeling an onion. Slowly revealing different sides of him. His chemistry with MC is amazing. Best ending couldn't have been more perfect. Clown end was meh. I enjoyed the Maze end a lot too. Best pure romance route Ive played this year. Definitely would play again Linus’s route: Initially, this seemed like a childhood friend route. There ended up being a mixture of confrontations, doki doki moments. It developed into an amazing enemy to lovers. I loved all the endings as well. Definitely would play again. Ascot’s route: A route full of suspense and plenty of twists and turns. So many great romance scenes. Had a good revelation. I loved all the endings! Best endings in the game. Definitely would play again Edward’s route:Just a disappointment to be honest. There were a few moments in the route where it had a chance to be a good climax, but the game ruined it, and it ended up being pretty underwhelming. There were a lot of “romance” scenes, but it all seemed very platonic. No chemistry between MC and Edward. Honestly, I enjoyed the interactions between MC and Edward in Linus’s route too. Endings were unique, and I enjoyed them! John’s route:A fun route with great plot and romance. Best revelation/foreshadowing in an otome game to be honest. Even though I pretty much guessed what the revelation would be beforehand, the revelation scene was just so impactful! Romance scenes were very sweet. All the endings were great! Truth route: It had too many repeated events and info from previous routes that made this route very tedious and draggy. There was closure for some foreshadowing, but it was kind of done in an underwhelming way😅 There also felt like there was so many unclear and unanswered questions. LI ranking: Linus>Ascot>Lucas>Edward>John>Alfred Route ranking: John>Ascot>Linus>Lucas>Alfred>Edward>Truth route |
