Review | An enjoyable political-themed VN. For this review, keep in mind i only played main game, no DLC. Its no masterpiece, as its scope is somewhat limited.. for example no voice acting, and while characters have a little bit of depth they can't really rival 'normal' VNs in that regard. There are also some minor issues here, like a bit too much irrelevant information. Sure, it helps establish the mood and it feels very 'real' that after a catastrophic event you will keep getting same'y looking raports about its impact for the next several days/weeks.. but from player perspective it gets old. Similarly, in the end-game i would keep getting reports about events that had no significance to me due to path i've taken. Another problem is that while there is a lot of replayability here, i feel like first few turns will always feel rather same'y. Those minor issues aside, its still a very good game. Devs nailed what they needed to the most; really make you feel like you're steering your country through nefarious plots and tumultuous times. In Suzerain you'll make decisions both on a small, personal scale as well as big, affecting entire country (and beyond). And there's quite a range of stuff you can support, as well as possible outcomes you can accomplish. While i whined about charas earlier, they're more than enough to do their job and then some.. and there are a lot of charas in here. Finally, even if most of the time this VN will be on the more relaxing side, there are still some surprisingly tense moments in here. Changing the constitution was one hell of a ride, one i signed up for blissfully unaware.. 'sure, lets do it i guess, whats the worst that could happen?'. Lol (or rather, Soll). Main Character for this one is a rare case of Self-Insert. You pick his every dialogue option, many of them with no significance other than roleplay. That said, hes also an older guy with a wife and kids... soo hes unique enough that i doubt anyone would be annoyed by it. So yep. Quite fun in its own rights, and real damn good if you're looking for a political-themed VN in particular. |
