ReviewNari's review of STEINS;GATE: My Darling's Embrace

What if the cast Steins;Gate was a moege like game? You get My Darling's Embrace! A fandisc revolved around the main characters doing various things in a slice of life setting with a variety of comedy and with some romance sprinkled in. The game takes place in a totally alternate WHAT IF timeline, completely separate from the main story. This game isn't meant to be a serious title of the series, so don't go in with high expectations, just have fun and laugh! My route reviews are go from worst to best.

- Luka: His route was probably the least interesting unfortunately. The others not as involved here, and unfortunately the route is very repetitive with very little progression. The comedy is more likely to be a hit or miss in this route. Although I'm glad they tried to do something unique with Luka and Okabe's relationship.

- Faris: What if the cast became employees at a maid café?!? If you wanted to see everyone in maid outfits, then this route will not disappoint you (also butler Okabe). But other than maid café stuff, we get to see how Faris feels about being surrounded by other lab mems. Okabe and Faris dynamic is surprisingly pretty wholesome, and they got the chemistry with a semi-satisfactory ending. But other than all of this, this route isn't really that special.

- Kurisu: The tsundere route: Okabe and Kurisu dynamic is easily one of my favorites. I could watch them for hours to complain and make fun of each other that's how good they are together! The situation they are in is so ridiculous that is just hilarious to go through. Although the romance aspects isn't really prevalent here (unfortunately) and the ending isn't very satisfying, I'll still take this just for the sheer amount of fun dynamic.

- Suzuha: Okay. This route was genuinely fun, other than some Daru shenanigans. I liked that there are actual consequences to someone's action that could potentially not be ideal for the characters. Okabe and Suzuha has very heartfelt moments together and the ending was just really good for this one. (Also a nice tie in for Steins;Gate 0 which came after)

- Moeka: Now this was a pleasant surprise for sure but a welcome one. Initially I thought this route is going to be my least favorite but instead I got a real look at Moeka. I really didn't expect this route to be so heartwarming and emotional. In the original game, we didn't really get to know her well. She was an okay character but they fleshed her out greatly here and it makes me really like her and she could easily stand with the rest of the cast (especially with Steins;Gate 0's context). I genuinely felt for her and made me realize how important little things are for some people. Give hugs to Moeka!

- Mayuri: This was the best route, no doubt and this is why you should leave it for last. The Mayuri love in this game is just insane. If you love Mayuri, you'll really love this one for sure. In the original, she was never really allowed to take a center stage due to plot reasons. We didn't get to see a true genuine Mayuri until now (and later in Steins;Gate 0). This route has everything: comedy, a good romance that isn't just sprinkled in, and genuine emotional highs for Okabe and Mayuri. Amazing route, amazing ending!

Final thoughts: The game is playable but it has some noticeable bugs and there is currently no CoZ patch for this game. The email messages aren't formatted well, the voice lines sometimes get cut abruptly (it doesn't happen all the time, but it happens somewhat more often than expected) but they aren't major issues at all. While the romance elements isn't as prevalent and they feel somewhat lacking in some routes, I would say this is still a fun read all things considered. Pretty good humor, voice actors are still doing an amazing job and plenty of sweet moments. If you love Steins;Gate and it's characters, I definitely recommend! I'll give a solid: 8/10
