Review | Like Yanderella (and, I believe, other CHARON works), Mix Ore plays with stereotypes of female anime characters by adding darker layers. And that's precisely where we find its main problem: predictability. Mix Ore's storylines are centered on twists and turns that may cause some shock when they first occur, but soon become redundant and predictable. As I had read Yanderella before, even the first route of Mix Ore didn't surprise me, which made the remaining two even more formulaic and uninteresting. What had interesting potential was the questioning of the protagonist's attitudes towards the characters and, consequently, women in general. But only one route explored this approach, with the others following a more standard pattern. Another wasted potential was the disconnection between the three routes, which could reveal details of a single plot, but instead each one just tells an independent story. RPG Maker engine also had good potential to make the experience more exciting, but it also ended up being redundant. Exploration is minimal and only foreshadows some of the predictable revelations. But there is a certain charm, mainly due to the use of pixel art. |
