Review | Inochi no spare is a VN aimed at more sensitive folk, and analytical minds are likely to have trouble with this one. In essence, Inochi no Spare is providing you with nothing but artificial emotion (personal). The thing is, that differentiating between that concept and "true feels" is downright impossible (not much room for argument), and a topic not worth pursuing. So, you have to ask yourself "on which side of the spectrum do i stand?", because let me tell you: If you are on mine, it's best to stay away from this VN. Positive: - Utsuge - Assuming you sympathize with the characters and their struggle. Without spoilers, they are "down on their luck", with only pain and suffering (and the occasional H-scene) coming their way. If people screaming in agony makes you emotional, this should work. - Premise - Some time ago, a particular type of entertainment (soap operas), picked up on the concept behind Inochi no Spare title (that and cloning). It still works, and raises many questions, just don't expect to find them here, it's all unsupported. Negative: - There's "not a lot of anything" here - The characters have only misfortune going for them; The story keeps revolving around the same dialogue; There's no pacing because the plot devices are non-existent (for a long time), things stay at a standstill; The emotional payout is adversary, to any and all rationalization; SoL is weak, and talking about the disease, should not be a simple "things are grim"; Lack of interesting themes given the premise; And more. Score: 5/10. There are different ways of doing drama/tragedy, personally this is not a valid one. Inochi no Spare brings to the table the notion of emotional payout, but "Nakiges and Utsuges" can be so much more than this. Not recommended. (I dislike Inochi no Spare, in case it's not clear already. 1 of maybe a handful of VNs that went beyond the "waste of time" mark.) |
