Review | It's been a while, after a busy bout of the game called IRL I have at last found some time to waste on my most beloved of mediums. That aside, on to the VN. I would put 'Find Love or Die Trying' in the B-Movie category experience, it certainly has the right kind of title for it. One can enjoy this for entertainment and a few laughs, more if you find certain mediocrities funny/entertaining. Then forget all about it not long after. The writing is out of touch, maybe even naive. trying too hard to relate to the current times and lingo. This resulted in the opposite of its intended effect, it had me rolling my eyes. It's like the kind of garbage lines you get from Marvel-type humour ''I'm sorry what?'' ''That shit was x'' ''UHH GUYYYS?'' ''insert quirky reference here'' haha guys you member that reference?! I member. Lazy comedy. The person creating the scenes lacks skills and/or understanding of established comedy routines/methods. The romance is unconvincing and I did not care for most of the characters due to lack of character development. Though I appreciated the parodies of some characters, like Yui being so much of a trope with cringe levels purposely turned to max, making me laugh. The heroines do all the work to try to win over the protagonist who largely reacts like this - ''Haha wow that's crazy'' ''Man that's great I like you a lot!'' Not only is this dynamic incredibly boring and unrewarding to read for me, but it also runs against the premise. The protagonist should have been the most proactive character here, but he is on rails. It's not all bad though, it's moderately entertaining, just enough that I was not getting bored. The premise and comedy focus had the potential to culminate into something greater, not to mention the surprisingly decent sprite work and art. It's a shame that the writing is poor and has numerous mistakes. Phrases often being misused and/or repeated often enough to be annoying i.e. 'it was all I could do to' 'it took everything I had' must have been repeated at least 50 times or more. The later twists are what promote it further into classic B territory but the good kind where the increasing absurdity gets more entertaining. Especially when the writer starts wanting the reader to take its plot seriously but it falls hilariously flat due to most of the twists and every character getting very little development so they all just come out like asspulls. Worth reading on a boring day that you don't mind killing time on. |
