ReviewWhile I didn't care much about Muv-Luv Extra and basically finished it as fast as possible, Unlimited really got me hooked after a while and, especially considering the massive praise, quite excited for Alternative. However, instead of picking up the high stakes that are left by Unlimited's ending and making this the beginning of a grand finale, the pacing grinds to a halt almost immediately and in my opinion takes far too long to get going again. Even when it does, the overall plot progression remains incredibly sluggish, with strong and important scenes being scattered between exhausting amounts of infodumping, the protagonist's constant inner monologues and trope-y comic relief moments. I also found myself quite disappointed with the music, many tracks sounded generic or even annoying.

< report >If you don't like Extra, then too bad and Muv-Luv is not for you.
I don't get how people fail to grasp this simple truth.

< report >Alternative was supposed to be co-released with its prequels in 2003 but due to production problems it was released 3 years later. The lengthy introductory chapters were there to refresh the events of Unlimited in readers' mind and also served as the level to plunge takeru into despair later due to him basically being a typical isekai protag for the most parts in the beginning. Your complaints therefore are understandable but a bit unreasonable.
The OST is cheesy a bit at times but brilliant in others tho. You can't tell me you listened to Assault Landing and didn't feel an incredible amount of anticipation and heroism before the Sadogashima attack.
