ReviewAI: The Somnium Files is a game I can't recommend enough! The game opens up with a bang, as you're thrown onto the first crime scene in an abandoned amusement park, and it never really let's off the gas, always presenting new questions, new twists, and making you wonder. If you're a fan of Uchikoshi's works, you know he can write an excellent mystery and this one does not disappoint. What makes this my favorite of his games and so dear to me though, is not only is the mystery a lot of fun, you really grow to care for the characters. The game mixes humor and sweet moments throughout the plot so well that by the end of the game I was just dreading having to part ways with Date, Aiba, and the rest of the cast. The game is also fully voice acted with amazing voice acting! I personally played in English, but I'm sure Japanese wouldn't disappoint either. Seeing everything in the game took me about 40 hours, though I go at a pretty leisurely pace. :)

My only knocks to this VN would be that I'm luke-warm on the puzzle aspect of this game, though I loved the conversations during the puzzle parts, the actual "Timie" system didn't suit me that well. I prefer the escape room style of the The Zero Escape series. I also played on Switch and it does struggle with loading at times, but nothing that makes it unplayable, just a bit annoying.

I'm not proficient at writing reviews so it's hard to express, but I truly loved this VN!! If you like mysteries it's a must, but even if you don't it still has lots to offer in humor and heartwarming moments as you fall in love with the characters.

< report >Just a note that you don't have to write your rating in the body of the review, as the review copies and displays your rating, if you have rated on the VN :-)
