ReviewControl has some nice visuals. The style is as bleak and foreboding as it’s content is. That however is about the only compliment I can give it. The story is not really explained well no matter which route you take. The game is full of faux choices that will result in your death so many times there isn’t a real choice at all. The music while decent was repetitive. The menu system was interesting in that most words were reversed like in the game for the people trying to trick you but where it was a nice touch in game it is just tedious in the menu. The game is short which was a good thing as I wasn’t enjoying it. More effort could have been put into fleshing out the back story and also to have an actual ending. Sure I escaped but to what end and what happened next ?

I played Control on Linux. It never crashed on me and I didn’t notice any spelling errors. The game allows manual saves and has fifty four save slots. You will want to save often as “many choices” will kill you. Alt-tab didn’t work.

Game Engine: Ren’Py
Game Version Played: 1.0

Disk Space Used: 191 MB
GPU Usage: 0-43 %
VRAM Usage: 283-324 MB
CPU Usage: 5-17 %
RAM Usage: 1.5-1.6 GB

Control may be free but so are many other visual novels that have stories that are more fleshed out and that have better branching. I finished my first play through in seventeen minutes and won’t be doing a second.
