ReviewI waited so long for this and now that I've played and finished it, I can say I was not disappointed at all. In fact it exceeded my expectations despite all the so-so things I've heard about it.

2 things are the central theme of this game and that is religion and family affairs. Not really something that sounds all that interesting at first but once you throw Rance into the equation, these concepts quickly get turned on their head in some hilarious ways. Rance a family man? Rance having anything to do with religion? Its not hard to imagine all the things that can go wrong, and Quest does a great job of delivering on a lot of that.

Compared to past titles, Rance's overall character does seem to take on a more mature tone throughout the story. I've been told this is mostly due to a change in writer, but in my own little headcanon I like to think that not having Sill by his side, suffering from a curse, and things generally not going his way, its caused him to rein it on his behavior just a little bit. He is definitely much kinder to his girls this time around compared to previous titles, hell, a few of the scenes get pretty damn emotional.

The gameplay is more or less the same as VI, just a tad bit more dynamic on character building coupled with the Evenicle engine. I found Quest to be a pretty challenging game overall and a couple boss fights felt so damn hard I wasn't really sure if I was supposed to lose or not. Turns out its just tough and the game forces you to utilize all of those party members you've been gathering.

As with all Rance games, the characters are what make this series shine. All of the character interactions are fantastic, the banter is funny, and the girls are cute. Meeting Reset for the first time will be one of my favorite moments in this medium for a long time to come.

The OST is a complete 10/10 for me as well. I don't believe there was a single track I didn't enjoy and all of the battle themes were absolute bangers. Another interesting thing Quest did for the lack of voice acting was these cute little beep voices that differed between several characters, its not a huge thing but it definitely added its own little unique charm that I enjoyed.

Overall, I really couldn't be happier with how this turned out. It has easily placed itself as my second favorite Rance title currently and I can't wait to play IX. Hopefully we don't have to wait until 2025 to continue the adventure.
