ReviewI think Quest for Hikari is a pretty cool guy. Eh rapes anime girls and doesnt afraid of anything.

But for reals though, I actually had a decent time playing this than most. Most of the flack this game gets is because it's an 80's adventure game so most dudes or chicks or whatever can't really put themselves in that kinda mindset nowadays except for a select few who grew up with that kinda thing and shit. I myself am a fan of these 80's RPG and adventure titles despite being born after 93'/94' (whenever Gen Z starts). But enough about me, let's actually talk about the game!

Ok, so like, this game is about this guy-who-I-can-like-as-a-fictional-character-but-who-I'd-probably-dislike-if-I-knew-him-in-real-life named Rance, a merc who lives in this horrifying parody of a generic JRPG setting known as "The Continent". He spends his life having adventures with this mage girl who is his (sex) slave named Sill who is also the best girl (If you disagree with this, you can come to my house and we'll "talk" about it with a baseball bat, machete, and knives.) and one day he does a job for this guild where he has to find a missing daywalker girl named Hikari. Rance accepts this mission and he and Sill start their investigation in this wacky tale.

The gameplay features tons of map movement via menu options that indicate directions and shit. It's pretty straightforward. When you enter certain buildings there are NPC's who talk to you after selecting various action commands. You need to give items to people and you select commands to do puzzles and BLAH BLAH BLAH.

It's boring talking about this, so lets move on.

The Alicesoft wiki has a really good guide that helped me breeze through this game at Sanic speed so the puzzles were no problemo señior citizen.

Combat in this game is shockingly easy for it's time. The only remotely difficult thing in this game combat wise is the hannies which are only a problem if they use their hanny flash. Also, there is literally no final boss.

The best thing about the game is the simple, yet memorable storyline that this game has. The game refuses to not be funny and Rance showed off that he had the makings of an amazing protagonist. A 99.99% of everything Rance does is cool, or at least amusing. Even when he rapes girls. The "mystery" of whatever happened to that red haired chick who got kidnapped or whatever also has a satisfying conclusion.

So all in all, while you should really play the remake instead, the original version of Rance's first adventure is not really as bad as some people make it out to be.
