ReviewAir

its divided into 3 sections Dream,Summer & Air so ill talk about each then ill talk about it as a whole

Dream was great this is the part with different routes Misuzu is kinda like Nagisa in the sense her route is half done when you finish her route and you have to complete both other routes and Summer to see her story completed however its not a problem for me like it is in clannad because there is so much less you have to do in order to get to her "after story" which is Air and the other two routes in Dream add to the main story of Air the other girls while not playing a role outside of Dream they both are written very well and work for the story of Air the visual novel. Minagi i just call her Tohno because its funnier to think shes related to vampires and its her surname was really great her story took a turn i never saw coming and takes the time weave a story that while not perfect feels complete it doesnt feel like they cut corners anywhere. Kano was also amazing tho a bit weird it still was a fun read that really jumped up towards the end embracing certain aspects of established story beats that just were left unused in Air the arc for no reason which made it stand out as a really special story.

Dream manages to make all 3 girls feel special they were all written with the intention of being the main heroine and even fit thematically with why MC ended up in the town in the first place , that is to say they all feel like the destined person he had been searching for all along in their own special ways

Dream easily gets a 9/10 it could honestly just be all there is to Air and it would be very satisfying

Summer

this is the second arc and it revolves around MC and Misuzu's Ancestors it takes place 100 years in the past MC's great great however many greats Granpaw being assigned as a guard to the Winged one who is a messenger to the gods the whole arc has no choices its fully kinetic. The story is about how Mc's ancestor fell in love with Misuzu's ancestor and breaks her out of the prison she had been living in until then so she can be a normal girl instead of some messenger of the gods who has to stay locked up 24/7 about how they fall in love and tragically get ripped apart and how he and Misuzu's ancestor's best friend decide to have a kid so that way when ever Misuzu's ancestor gets reincarnated she wont ever be alone no matter how long it takes they will always pass down the will to keep searching for her.
it was really well written but drops it at the end , the Cg they chose to use just didnt hit instead of having the MC of summer spending his final moments with his now wife thinking only of her and their soon to be born child like his words in the text say he wants to , its a CG of they looking to the sky clearly thinking of Kanna (misuzu's ancestor) which that could have worked but it doesnt because it doesnt match the text of whats happening in the text his wife and child are the only things on his mind because he knows he will die the next time he closes his eyes and he wants his final moments to remembered fondly he wants his wife to know she is loved , he wants her to tell their child they were loved but they just miss with the CG so hard

i think summer alone is like 7.8 its good but that ending just leaves a sour taste in your mouth

Air(arc)

this is functionally the after story of Air this retells Misuzu's route but from the perspective of a crow later we find out this crow is really the MC traveled back in time to relive the summer he met Misuzu again ( i swear to god this is real) but instead of just being a strict retelling of misuzu's route it has alot of new stuff too monologues we hear because the characters are thinking aloud and dont care if a crow hears in addition to going far past where the Dream Misuzu route ends. Air is definitely great i cant think of anything i disliked abotu it except for the first like 30 minutes it felt like a true retelling with nothing new but once i got past that it was great i was into it again i didnt want to stop and i didnt. Air did an excellent job of telling exactly the story it set up from the first lines of text you read but it also manages to be special its predictable but adds enough that even with the answer sitting in your face screaming at you you arent sure where its going and i do mean that for the better it manages to throw curveballs all while telegraphing they are curve balls.

Air as a standalone wouldnt work it needs the other 2 parts to shine and thats exactly why its perfect nothing in the first two parts felt unneeded thats exactly what is necessary to get right in a story divided into arcs you have to make sure the parts you make me read to get the main story felt worthwhile The air arc itself gets a 10/10 from me

Air (visual novel)

Air i like it alot im really glad i got that best of Key set and im really glad i ended up loving all 3 games in it i knew going in i liked Clannad alot , i knew Kanon was goated for me but Air i was worried might be something i end up not liking but Air ended up being very worth the read it ended up being very enjoyable and something im happy to look over and see next to two others i love.
from start to finish Air was enjoyable the Dream arc was delightful it was emotional in many different ways and really made me excited that there was more to what felt complete , The Summer was so interesting i sat there and read it all in one night and was sad when i could tell it was nearing its end And Air does exactly what it needs to do it pulls it all together and says yes all of this was important all of it was needed and there is just so few stories in general that are able to do that there are plenty of books , tv shows ,comics and movie sagas that just dont make me feel like all of the parts where necessary to make a whole but manged to do that.
there are a few issues with it of course , there were certain things that just didnt get brought up or explained and really dont know why they just forgot about this stuff ,Summer's end was truly unsatisfying by messing up that cg they ruined the final scene IMO and Air's End just felt weird like i get what i think they were going for but adding some extra lines to clarify would have gone so far in making the story unforgettable.

Air i think to me is a 9/10 its really good but it lacks certain things that keep it from being a masterpiece in my mind its dam close but the miss steps they do have are large enough for me to say well yea its got some glaring things about it , but i do think it was very much worth the read, worth checking out if you have the time.
