ReviewMeteor World Actor is a very good Visual Novel that executes most of its themes quite well. It's an episodic story with 4 common route chapters and 1 chapter for each heroine.

The story of the game it's about our protagonist, Ruka, a detective that has been in the force for a lot of years, yet has never been promoted, then one day a rookie elf gets paired with Ruka as his partner, and because Ruka is more of a "lone wolf" type of person he doesn't like the idea, but is forced into it.

Now, the common route of the game is one of the highlights of it (except chapter 3, I'll explain why later), as for the heroine routes, they are good, but they not only feel rushed at parts, but also don't have a definitive conclusion. When I finished my first route, the first thing I thought was that it felt that they were planning a sequel, and surprise, surprise, there is a sequel announced for the 25th of this month, so if you are going to play this, keep in mind that you are not going to get a definitive conclusion just by playing this game.

The world building/lore of the game is very interesting, but I would certainly prefer if it was more explored than it was, but this is just a minor issue as this isn't really the focal point of the VN. As for that, it honestly does it quite well, Ruka isn't exactly a goody-two-shoes, if he needs to get his hands dirty, he will, and although I had my doubts at the beginning, Ruka became one of my favorite VN protagonists, just give him some time and by the end of chapter 1 you will grow a little fond of him.

If there is something this VN has going for it, it's the art, I fell in love with it at first glance, but the main set piece of the game undermines just how gorgeous it is, because this game is really dark visually, and it makes it confusing whether a scene is during the day or during the night. The backgrounds are very boring as they are composed mostly of buildings. This VN could really use more variety on the backgrounds, there is a little of it though, but it takes a long time to get to it.

The music of this game is a big plus, as it has some good tracks and some that are just fucking outstanding, and most of the time the music works with the situation/setting and not against it. Specially most action scenes, some were kinda dull, but when they are good and the music is there, they are superb.

Ok, now, I'll just say it straight out, this game has pacing problems, most of chapter 3 is just slow, I kinda would prefer if they expended more time on something else like, I don't know... The romance, because if chapter 3 feels slow, the romance on this game is fast as fuck, they spend little time on that department, and it could have used way more polish, but to be frank the story of the game makes up for it, so I guess it's whatever.

I wouldn't recommend or suggest any sort of heroine route order, as each route stands on its own, and you don't need to play any to understand the others, so you decide, but keep in mind that Claris' chapter only can be accessed after you play all the other 3 so if your plan was to only read her route, well, sorry to break it to you.

So, I would recommend this game if you don't really mind the romance, and you just would like to read an interesting and good story about a detective and crime.

As for the score, I will give this Visual Novel an 8/10

< report >Great review. I agree with your sentiment, the art really carried the vn, and honestly the heroine routes felt forced and underwhelming.

Ruka, a detective that has been in the force for a lot of years, yet has never been promoted,

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want to be promoted even if given the chance. he hates the hierarchy system. he hates the system in general. he hates the ungodly amount of corporate speak he has to go through every day.
