ReviewMAMIYA's biggest problem is that it's incomplete. The ending left me befuddled, with so many things left unexplained and so many questions left unanswered. The ending hints at a sequel, but I'm afraid that by the time I get to read it, I've forgotten all the important details and won't be able to enjoy it as much. :(

Even so, this is very much worth reading. Where other VNs are often lackluster, this one shines: the writing is excellent and the cast is amazing. It's hard to write a story about depression without making the whole thing feel fake and forced, but MAMIYA succeeds spectacularly. The complex and deeply interwoven storyline is also very engrossing. I'm hungry for more.

The dark themes aren't for everyone, but if you're up for a serious story, definitely give it a try.

< report >I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed it too! I also get frustrated with cliffhanger endings usually but this one didn't bother me so much because it's so good overall :) Here's hoping the sequel comes soon ^^

< report >I'm thinking of waiting until the story is complete to try it but since this was originally released in 2017, that might not happen. The best thing we can hope for is that the steam release gives the company a second wind to continue it.

< report >^ Well the dev is active on Twitter and they seem to be fond of the project, so it's not completely out of question. link

< report >From what I gather, the 2017 release only covers a part of the story (DownFall), and the 2021 release is a simultaneous EN translation + JP content expansion (with FallDown). So there's hope.

The cliffhanger did bother me quite a bit, but it could've been much worse indeed. It really helps that the story is told in "episodes", with each route fleshing out the characters a bit more and giving away a few more pieces of the overall puzzle. Each route is also very enjoyable on its own.

Depending on how the story plays out, this has the potential to become a 9 or even 10/10 for me. Though I fear that the author may not be going in the direction that I'd like... With a protag like Natsume, they might be aiming for a good ending. I'd much rather see this end badly: if you're going to portray misery, please go all the way! :D
