ReviewW Happiness can be played without having played the original Princess Evangile, and it does give you the common route of Evangile. However, without having played the girls' specific routes, the epilogue chapters won't have much context. Technically speaking, you can play the "new" routes with the girls from Evangile that were not romance-able in the original, since the (included) common route is sufficient to explain them.

I liked all the epilogues just fine. One of the girls gets a specific type of unique ending from the others, and this practice of giving one of the girls a specific type of unique ending carries over into at least one other Moonstone game that I've played (released after both Evangile games). It's almost as if they're indicating a "true" ending or something. Definitely messaging going on at least. The example in this case was honestly beautifully done, and I can say this even though the girl that got this ending wasn't my favorite play-through from the original. You'll want to play all the epilogues though. They're all great.

The side character routes were hit and miss. There was one I disliked for H content reasons/tone. I know why they did it, but I thought it sullied the characterization of the protagonist too much in the service of trying to provide different H content categories not present in the original. It just seemed to me that these themes don't fit him at all, and it was kind of like having a different protagonist. I also don't think these H themes fit the spirit of the original game, and it almost felt like I was playing another game outside the Evangile universe. The only other one I disliked was more just personal preference (about character design type, and the fetish associated with it). I knew by default I wasn't going to play the route, so I'm not really finding fault with it. Your preference may be different.

I recommend buying this if you've played Princess Evangile. It wraps things up nicely.
